JB Murray & Th e Music

Local singer/songwriter Joey Boisvert, a native of Gardner, currently

lives in Orange. A self-taught singer, guitar and bass player, his early

infl uences include Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson

and Th e Eagles. He’s a former frontman / guitarist for the local

band Evenspeak with whom he recorded three CDs (still available

at CDBaby.com or on iTunes). He’s had the privilege of opening for

the Big Brother & Holding Company and Jeff erson Starship. Joey’s

currently working on his solo debut release, “Cardboard Castles,” which

is slated to be released in September on iTunes.

JB Murray encompasses both the hard-hitting and subtle sides of

acoustic rock, with infl uences of blues and folk laced throughout.

Now joined by Topo Hakkinen and occasionally a small host of other

musicians, JB Murray & Th e Music’s repertoire is both thought-

provoking and classic, from the oldies but goodies to today’s fi nest, as

well as a ever-growing catalog of originals – songs that convey a story

for everyone.

Meet Templeton’s Own Superhero –Capt. Ezekiel Knowlton, 1775

Ken Knowlton, a member of the Narragansett Historical Society, is portraying his fi fth great-grandfather, Capt. Ezekiel Knowlton, one of Templeton’s fi rst settlers and a Revolutionary War patriot. Ken, as Ezekiel, will tell his story at Ezekiel’s grave in the Old Center Burial Ground behind First Church of Templeton.

When Ezekiel Knowlton moved into this area from Shrewsbury in 1756, he was one of the fi rst settlers in the Mine Hill area of Partridgeville, in what was then known as Narragansett #6. In 1764, residents changed the name of the town to Templeton. He served as a selectman in 1768.

On Oct. 4, 1774, after relations with King George III of England began to deteriorate, Templeton created a committee to provide provisions for the soldiers of the town if they were called to fi ght. A second committee also was formed to care for their families. When the alarm came from Concord and Lexington about noon on April 19, 1775, Templeton was ready, and Ezekiel and 36 other men from town started the long road to Cambridge before nightfall.

After the war, Ezekiel again served as a selectman in Templeton, as well as the representative to the People's General Court.

Ken Knowlton, as Capt. Ezekiel Knowlton, appears courtesy of the Narragansett Historical Society. Check out the historical society, which is open from 1-5 p.m. today. It’s the historic brick building on Boynton Street, across the Templeton Common.

Hello, FriendsA message from Gail Noel, president of the Friends of the Templeton Elders.

We have such a great Senior Community Center. But how did we get to this point?

Th e Friends of the Templeton Elders is a 501(c)(3), non-profi t organization incorpo-rated in 2006 to help the Town of Temple-ton’s Council on Aging (COA) construct a new Senior Center and Food Pantry. It has been a long, arduous, process. We’ve come a long way, but the building is not quite fi n-ished. We still need

1.A kitchen to feed the elderly, 2.Siding to improve energy effi ciency and complete the building exterior 3.Wheelchair lift to access ground fl oor and 4.Finish the lower level.

Th e good news is - we have built a new Food Pantry.

DID YOU KNOW?• Th e town of Templeton spent $500,000 • Sen Stephen Brewer got us $300,000 • $280,000 came from an agreement between a 40B housing developer

and the ZBA • Th at’s it!

According to the last census in 2010, Templeton has a population of 8,000• Templeton is the poorest town in Worcester County • 20% of that are seniors but that was six years ago - it may be closer to

25% now with baby boomers • 13.4% of seniors over 65 were below the poverty level • 42% were economically vulnerable or have food insecurity; again that

was six years ago. • Templeton tied for highest percentage of vulnerable seniors in Worces-

ter County. Page 13

And all those special friends who planned and volunteered to make this a special day for our community.

• Feeling kind of lost after my husband passed away, I found a new focus at the Senior Center. I’ve made many new friends, connected with some old ones (no pun intended), and found that volunteering to help others has given me a new purpose in life.

• When I was down and out, they helped me through a very bad time. God bless them!

• I take the van everywhere – the doctor's, shopping, sightseeing and dining with friends.
