Are you ready to get your students started on a creative and fun character study?! They will really be delving into their understanding of the character, and being creative in their
presentation of them.
Some suggested uses for this character study:• Take Home Project (if you choose to do this, there are pages
with clear directions for you to send home with students)• Whole Class Assignment for a particular book/character
• Book Club Activity• Enrichment Group Activity• End of the Year Activity
Included in this pack is:• Project Explanation (2 options – rubric included, or blank rubric)
• Project Directions• Templates• Rubrics
Let your students choose the character they’d like to base their project on. I like to supply students with the 12x18 construction
paper for the body, and create a packet of all of the pieces for them to work on. I recommend having them create all the pieces and then cutting and gluing them onto the body all at once (so pieces don’t get lost!). There are no templates for the head,
hands, and feet – this is all part of the student’s creativity part of the project. I would LOVE to see your final projects – tag me

You will pick a favorite character from a book to complete this project on. The character should be one that you have truly
enjoyed reading about and feel you know well!
Below is the rubric you will be graded on. Please refer to it as you complete this project. You will also present your character
to the class as a part of their grade.
You have been provided with the “body” of the character. Now don’t forget to add the head, arms and legs! Be creative with it!
Please make sure all work is done neatly, and remember to have fun!

Here are the directions on how to create the body for the project.
Start with a 12x18 sheet of construction paper. Fold along the
dotted lines into eights.
Cut the bottom left and right corners off.
1. 2.
3.
To make pants, cut where the blue dotted lines are.
To make a skirt, cut where the red dotted lines are.
Here is a preview of where the different pieces will go on the body.
Book Character ProjectHere is an overview of the different pieces of the project. This page will give you more information on what to include on each piece, and where to glue the pieces.
A. Redesign the Cover: Design your own cover for the book. Make sure it represents something important from the book. When you are done, cut it out and glue it to the outside left flap of the character’s body.B. Nametag: Fill out this name tag for your character. Then, cut it out and glue it to the outside right flap of your character’s body.C. Adjectives: Think of 8 adjectives that describe your character. Write each one in a box. Afterwards, cut each one out and glue to the arms and legs of your character.D. Instagram Feed: Think about something your character might take a picture of for Instagram. Maybe they would take a picture of their friends, their family, a place they are visiting, etc. Draw a picture you might find on their feed. Don’t forget to create their Instagram username. When you are done, cut it out and glue it to the inner left flap of the body.E. iPod: Think of 3-5 songs that might be on your character’s iPod. Write them on the iPod screen. Be sure to include the title and artist. When you are done, cut it out and glue it on the Inside right flap of the character’s body.F. Quote: Pick one quote (something the character said) from the book that is important. Write it in this speech bubble. Then, cut and glue it so it looks like it is coming out of your character’s mouth.G. Interview: Pretend you are interviewing the main character. Think about what his or her answers might be to the questions. After you have thoughtfully planned their answers out, write neatly on the interview form. When you are done, cut it out and glue it on the middle inside section of the character’s body.
