Lighting currently consumes about 20% of the world’s electricity output …

… 50-70% of all lighting currently installed in the world is based on old , less energy efficient technology, much of it developed during the 1950s.

LIGHTS FAIL!

Regardless of technology, lights eventually fail, and they will need to be replaced.

Standard Incandescent lamps last about 1000 hours, Halogens about 2000 hours, and CFLs about 5000 hours.

Our LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours.

Based on 4 hours of use per day *, you won’t have to change our bulb for more than 34 years!

Extremely shock resistant

This is a significant advantage over CFL lamps where mercury in a broken lamp could contaminate the air.

Number of on/off cycles have no effect

As noted earlier, on/off cycles severely shorten the life of both Incandescent and Fluorescent lamps. This is NOT the case with LED.

Remember, life expectancy is based on 4 hours of use AND no more than 3-4 on/off cycles per day * so, forget about kitchens and bathrooms, etc., where the life of your incandescent and CFL bulb is significantly reduced.

They are the most expensive general purpose lights currently on the market. However the costs are reducing all the time.

However, depending on usage, they pay for them-selves within 0.6-3 years, and sometimes in less than a year!

Like virtually all lamps, heat shortens the life of LED lamps.

However, cool & cold applications are ideally suited for LEDs, much more so than all other technologies.

LED lights cannot currently match the light output of equivalent Incandescent and Fluorescent designs.

The most important word above is “currently,” which will soon change.

In very special applications where the appearance of an object is essential, such as in a photographic studio, LED lights may not be currently the best choice.

They may render the colour of objects differently when compared to natural light.

… however, colour rendering is rapidly improving with the advancement of LED technology, so this issue will soon be resolved.

WATTAGE • Don’t just look at the rated wattage, but the continuous wattage once the light has been running for a while.

LUMENS • Compare lumen values when selecting an appropriate lamp.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR …

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 29: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

Simply put, it’s what you pay for on your electricity bill. It measures the amount of electricity used per hour of operation.

Higher wattage means more expensive to operate.

WHAT IS WATTAGE?

A lumen is a measurement of light output. Basically, the lamp’s brightness.

More lumens means a brighter light.

You gain tremendous energy savings through the use of LED lamps.

In some cases, LED lamps can reduce energy consumption by as much as 95%.

WHAT ABOUT THE HIGHER PRICE?

LED lamps last an unbelievably long time.

In the case of standard Incandescents, you’d have to buy 50 bulbs to equal the life of one comparable LED lamp.

WHAT ABOUT THE HIGHER PRICE?

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 33: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

… not to mention all the times you’ll have to find a stool, or a chair, or a ladder, or some other platform to change each of those 50 bulbs.

… and don’t drop that CFL. If it breaks, you could be in trouble.

WHAT ABOUT THE HIGHER PRICE?

Page 34: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

With the exception of high heat applications, such as an oven, heat is a non issue.

All LED lamps are built with heat sinks to dissipate any heat produced by the LEDs.

WHAT ABOUT HEAT?

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 35: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

Keep in mind, too, that most Fluorescent and CFL failures occur at the ends/base due to the heat produced in this area.

Although the lamp remains cool, it’s the area inside the base that causes the problem. This is not true of LED lamps.

WHAT ABOUT HEAT?

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 36: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

Under the vast majority of applications, colour rendering is also a non issue. Only very specific applications are affected, such as the photographic studio mentioned earlier, or a film and video set at a motion picture studio, or applications involving fashion & car show rooms, etc.

WHAT ABOUT COLOR RENDERING?

2012 will mark the 50th anniversary of the LED light. It was first introduced as a practical electronic component in 1962.

State-of-the-art high-powered LEDs of today bear little resemblance to those introduced 50 years ago.

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

Analogous to Moore’s Law in the computer world, LED efficiency & light output doubles about every 36 months.

While LED lamps can’t currently match an equivalent Incandescent or Fluorescent design …

just wait … they will!

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 43: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

Case in point …

While most LEDs today produce about 60-90 lumens per watt, Cree, a major LED manufacturer, announced on February 8, 2010, that they had achieved 208 lumens per watt using readily available materials.

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 44: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

Furthermore …

In February 2008, 300 lumens of visible light per watt of luminous efficacy was achieved in the laboratory by using nanocrystals. However, this technology is still in the early stages of development.

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

Page 45: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

In January 2009, it was reported that researchers at Cambridge University had developed an LED bulb that costs £2 (about $3 U.S.), is 12 times as energy efficient as a tungsten bulb, and lasts for 100,000 hours.

INCREDIBLE!

Page 46: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

Like India, Malaysia, the Philippines, the European Union, the U.K., Cuba, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina & Venezuela, Canada will ban the sale of Incandescent bulbs by 2015. Will they do the same with CFL? Many say yes, but when?

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 47: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

Unfortunately, as seems to be the case with many similar situations, the USA does not have plans to ban the sale of Incandescent bulbs, at least, not yet.

Instead …

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 48: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

AND WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

To really emphasize matters …

Philips lighting has ceased research & development on compact fluorescent lamps, devoting the bulk of its research, 5% of the company’s global lighting revenue, to solid-state lighting.

B R I G H T E N I N G O U R F U T U R E

NZ Led Lighting Ltd

Page 49: Thank you for taking time to download and view this presentation

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

Without a doubt …

There’s a shining light illuminating the future of LED lighting technology.
