!Conor Burns Election Speech
Conor Burns giving his victory speech after the General Electionresult was announced.
Thank you, Mr. Mayor. Given the hour, I will be brief. Can I thank the returning officer, and the staff who have done such adiligent job this evening in delivering this result. Can I also thank thepolice who have ensured that this election, as all elections in Britainare, was fully free and fair. Id like to thank my agent, Anthea Bailey and my campaign manager, for my second election in Bournemouth West, Andrew Morgan, whohas conducted the organisation of the general election and the localelections with a precision and expertise that is beyond compare. I would also like to place on record my gratitude for the support, counsel and advice of John Beesley, who leads this Council with, Ibelieve, distinction. As Ive gone around in the last number of weeks, I have met hundredsof people that I have had the honour of helping and serving in the lastfive years. I place on record tonight my enormous gratitude to mycaseworker, Jeanne Mousley, who will shortly retire, who is at all timesand in all circumstances absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Jeanne, foreverything you do. We fought a totally positive campaign in Bournemouth West. I amproud we didnt even mention other political parties in our literature. Iam pleased that that has been rewarded with an increase in the actualvote that I got after five years of service without a boundary change, and an increase in the majority. I pledge this very simply. I will always do my best by the people ofBournemouth West. I will always remember it is they who sent me toParliament, and I will always serve them. For the biggest issue that came up on doorstep after doorstep in everypart of the constituency, the Navitus Bay Wind Farm, tomorrowmorning I resume my opposition in the fight to ensure that that is notsomething that goes forward. I thank the people of Bournemouth West for the trust they put in me,and I promise them I will always do my best for them.
