Thank you for choosing to fundraise for CRUK Kids & Teens
WE WILL BEAT CHILDHOODCANCER SOONER
Anna was only four when she was diagnosed
with osteosarcoma. She bravely underwent
months of chemotherapy with painful
side-effects including sickness, hearing loss
and hair loss.
As part of her treatment she had surgery
which left her in a hip cast for 15 months, and
five years on she still occasionally needs to
use a wheelchair. She has had to spend lots
of time away from her family and friends and
wasn’t able to go to school.
Cancer has a huge impact on young
people and the ones they love. With your
help we can find cures and kinder treatments.
“Anna never stopped smiling and her positivity and bravery helped carry us through such a difficult time.”Anna’s mum Mette
Anna’s STORY
cruk.org/kidsandteens | Share your fundraising success CRUKKidsandTeens @CRUK_Kids
More children are surviving cancer than ever before. In fact, for children under 15 in the UK,
survival has doubled since the 1970s.
That means at least 15,000 more
children have survived for over 10 years
–all because of research funded by
people like you.
But cancer is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 25.It takes the lives of around 550 children,
teenagers and young adults each year
in the UK. For young people that survive,
treatments can be harsh and side-effects
can have a devastating effect, some of
which can last for the rest of their lives.
We must do more. Our ambition is to double the
amount we spend on childhood
cancer research over the next
5 to 10 years, to accelerate progress
and find new cures and kinder treatments.
Let’s beat childhood cancers sooner
We’re incredibly
grateful to amazing supporters
like you for joining us in helping
save more children’s lives.
This pack has all the tips and advice
you need to make your fundraising
a success. If you’d like any more
information please call our fundraising
hotline on 0300 123 3035 and
speak to one of our experts
who’ll be happy to help.
Buys a pipette, an essential item to
make our paediatric scientists’ experiments
accurate, giving the precise results needed
to accelerate breakthroughs in the lab,
and save the lives of more children.
Covers the costs of the work of our Children’s Clinical Trials Team for one day.
It’s only by running clinical trials that we can find
better and kinder treatments for the brave children,
teens and young adults with cancer, and keep
more families together.
£1,800
£200
Pays for the time of an expert statistician for a day. With over
6 in 10 children on clinical trials, it’s
essential we have these amazing minds
to crunch through the numbers to
uncover the best and kindest treatments.
£85
The cost of running Cancer Chat
for one hour, helping
many parents and families
through very difficult times.

What your money could buy
Buys a special chemical measuring tool that lets scientists find out the size of DNA
molecules. These tools are being used by
Professor Steven Clifford and his team in
Newcastle, as they analyse the genetic
signatures of children’s brain tumours and
use them to predict the best treatments.
£100
Buys special ‘chemical scissors’ that chop up reams of DNA in a
cancer cell, helping our scientists
to decode their hidden genetic
secrets. Scissors like these helped
our researchers find the genes
involved in Fanconi Anaemia – an
inherited syndrome that can increase
a child’s risk of developing leukaemia.

Sponsored shave.Get your friends to sponsor you to shave off your hair. If you’re not an adult yet, don’t forget to ask permission first.
Bake sale.Bake a batch of cakes, and ask for a donation in return for a delicious treat.
Kids v Adults.Get together a group of teachers or parents and challenge the kids to a fundraising sports tournament. Get sponsored to sport fancy dress or face paint while you compete.
Take to the streets.Have some fun partying outside in your neighbourhood. Organise a day with stalls, games, raffles and auctions, and feel the community spirit as you sell tickets to all the locals!
Sponsored silence.Sssssh! Who said that? Silence is golden and so is all the money you raise for just zipping it. Be brave, and pledge not to say anything for a day, a week, or longer!
Get quizzical. Is this the answer you were looking for? Give your questions a theme – or just keep it random, and ask for a donation to enter. Include a raffle for extra funds, and you could be on to a winner!
On your bike.Take on a brave challenge. Why not conquer Land’s End to John O’Groats, or plan a route around your local area? Whatever distance you choose, a two-wheeled event is a fun way to raise money.
Food for thought.Love cheese? Chocolate? Chillies? Get sponsored to abstain for a day, week or even a month, and turn your loss into fundraising gains.
Daring dinner date.Get in the kitchen, cook up a storm, and throw a unique dinner party where the guests donate what they think the meal is worth. Be bold, and cook something you wouldn’t normally!
Fundraisinginspiration
for all ages! Baked bean bliss. Are you brave enough to take a bath in baked beans? Gather the troops to come and watch, and whoever donates over a certain amount can add another tin.
Singing sensation.Brave the crowds and organise a karaoke event with friends. Find a venue, sell tickets, and get people to donate to choose a song for someone else.
Face your fear.Scared of swimming? Terrified of tarantulas? Horrified by heights? Be strong, take a deep breath, and get sponsored to confront you fears. Get a crowd to watch and cheer you on!

MARY CRUK Fundraiser
Mary’s great-nephew William was just a few months
old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic
leukaemia. After meeting other brave children
undergoing treatment whilst William was in hospital
she decided she wanted to do whatever she could
to help them.
Over the last 5 years Mary has raised money for
research, and helped increase awareness of cancer in
her local community. Organising fashion shows, table
top sales, and even rallying local businesses to donate
prizes for raffles, she has so far raised over £40,000
for childhood cancer research.
William is now happily in remission and enjoying
making lots of friends in his first year of school.
“I’ve seen the progress made in the treatment of cancer in recent years and firmly believe the answer to beating cancer lies in groundbreaking research.”
