Creating Value – Building Bridges

The export-driven German industry is looking to the future with a sense of optimism, with the strong US dollar, continued low interest rates and the reduction of raw material and oil prices providing an excellent foundation for the creation of added value. This is beneficial to shareholders, employees and suppliers.

The opportunities available to globally operating companies are huge, but the risks resulting from the current imbalances in international trade should not be disregarded. Our companies work in a highly volatile environment in which they need to consider both fluctuations in financial markets and geopolitical challenges in their strategies.

When it comes to the implementation of future-oriented strategies, purchasing, logistics and supply chain management play a key role. Only companies that build solid bridges to international markets and supply chain partners can succeed in achieving added value. The main aim is to create strong supply chains and value-added partnerships and to safeguard them against potential risks.

Purchasing and supply chain management departments can use collaborative and innovative value-added processes to create added value that goes beyond classic cost-cutting measures. Professional organisation and the consistent use of new IT and logistics technologies form a basis for these processes and facilitate the establishment of networks that help to shape innovations and actively incorporate them into companies‘ day-to-day business activities.

This year, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our Symposium and and the 60th anniversary of BME – two strong anchors for a dynamic best-practice network and an exchange of experiences across different companies. Come and make the most of Europe‘s largest congress for purchasing, logistics and supply chain management as a meeting place in which you can discuss best-practice examples and innovative value-added strategies for your future with your peers.

We look forward to seeing you at the event!

50th Symposium Purchasing and Logistics

Enjoy the following speakers in the plenary sessions!

Joschka Fischer Former Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany

Considering the current economic disparities and the level of turbulence they cause, we are facing a growing Euro-sceptic or even Euro-hostile attitude in many places. This trend, promoted by populists, is very dangerous, as it fails to realise the fact that, in the past decades, European integration has been the impetus for peace, progress, modernisation and prosperity on the old Continent. A failure of Europe would be a historical catastrophe, above all for Germany. The spectres of the past would return, with all the economic and political consequences. I cannot caution people enough about this. That is why I am very pleased to use the platform of the 50th BME-Symposium to advocate the cause of boldly continuing along the path of European integration.

Melanie Kreis Member of the Board of Management Human Resources Department Deutsche Post DHL Group

The only constant in this modern, globally-networked economy is the process of change in our companies. This affects employees and executives alike and often presents major challenges for the entire organisation. Persuasive and effective human resources management can make a significant contribution to a company's ability to stay on track for success, even in times of major changes. I look forward to the opportunity of presenting our corporate concepts to a large number of executives at the 50th BME-Symposium and engaging in follow-up discussion.

Wilhelm Rehm Member of the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen AG

With the takeover of TRW Automotive in May 2015, ZF has attained the size and strength of the world's third-largest automotive supplier. This involves one of the highest purchasing volumes and one of the largest consolidated value chains in the automotive sector. In the light of the above, optimal management and the ability to harness significant potential for synergies require a global purchasing organisation working under central corporate leadership. In this reorientation, we are utilising the "Best of Both" and combining the strengths of the two companies. In doing so, the decisive potential for success lies in optimal networking of the worldwide purchasing divisions into a single, globally-active purchasing team, pursuing a common purchasing strategy. At the 50th BME-Symposium, I will be delighted to illustrate how we can approach and leverage this potential for success.

Dr. Eric Schweitzer President of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Few economies are as internationally networked as the German economy. With advances in the digital world, a new, vast potential of opportunities is expected to open up in international markets, especially for medium-sized industrial enterprises. For Germany as a business location, the key is to tap the potential of digitisation and to create the proper playing field for its success.

Prof. Dr. h.c. mult. Reinhold Würth Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Würth-Group

My message to the delegates of the 50th BME-Symposium is that we need more bold entrepreneurship. The past few years have demonstrated that, in our globally-networked economy, what we need now more than ever are entrepreneurs willing to take a stand for tradition and to offer a vision for the future. They know that it is the customers who are their true employers. Successful entrepreneurs act accordingly and instil this concept in their employees. This is what I am advocating at BME's 50th Anniversary Symposium.

Hartmut Jenner Chief Executive Officer & Chairman of the Management Board Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. KG

Kärcher has experienced strong growth over the past few years. In 2014, we achieved 2.12 billion Euros, the highest turnover in our company's history. Our most important success factors include, among others, high innovative strength, the right product mix, a strong brand and a consistent customer focus. In addition, as world market leader, we look closely at future scenarios and megatrends, in order to shape the cleaning industry of tomorrow.

Mario Mascolo Vice President Supply Chain Europe & Middle East/Africa Executive Management 3M EMEA GmbH

Within 3M supply chain management has always played a vital role for deli ve ring the best service to our customers. Our mantra is that to be successful it is absolutely crucial that the customer is sitting in the driver's seat of our supply chain management and that customer satisfaction while keeping our costs under control is the number one objective for our organization. I am happy to have the opportunity to forward our philosophy to the delegates of the 50th BME-Symposium. I am keen to hear their comments and to learn more from their strategies.

Oliver Kahn Goalkeeper Legend and Entrepreneur

In sport, as in the corporate world, delivering continuous peak performance plays a central role. The "Philosophy of No. 1" is a core element of my mental approach as a professional athlete and an entrepreneur. In my presentation, I talk about strategies and techniques that can enable you to derive the most out of your own achievement potential, even in a constantly changing environment. Consistent self-discipline with the goal of continuous top performance can make a decisive contribution towards success.
