First Sunday of the Month:

Anointing and Laying on of Hands for Healing is offered today:

Through the life, death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, all that wounds and spoils, or makes us less than whole, has been gloriously overcome! The promise of healing through Christ is not of recovery from every illness or injury (although that is often Jesus' gift) but rather the grace of the Risen Jesus to live at peace with ourselves, our neighbours and with God.

¶ The Gathering Welcome, followed by silent prayer and: All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord Amen. Hymn O praise ye the Lord! Praise him in the height; rejoice in his word, ye angels of light; ye heavens adore him by whom ye were made, and worship before him, in brightness arrayed. O praise ye the Lord! Praise him upon earth, in tuneful accord, all you of new birth; praise him who hath brought you his grace from above, praise him who hath taught you to sing of his love. O praise ye the Lord, all things that give sound, each jubilant chord re-echo around; loud organs, his glory forth tell in deep tone, and, sweet harp, the story of what he hath done. O praise ye the Lord! Thanksgiving and song to him be outpoured all ages along: for love in creation, for heaven restored, for grace of salvation, O praise ye the Lord! In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All Amen. The Lord be with you All and also with you Confession : My brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate the presence of Christ in word and sacrament, let us call to mind and confess our sins. (Silence is kept)

Page 3: th Sunday before Advent) - Christ Church Gosport - C of E · PDF file(4th Sunday before Advent) ... Trinity Green, Haslar Road - a church in the Anglo-Catholic [smells and bells!]

All Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen. Almighty God, who in Jesus Christ has given us a kingdom that cannot be destroyed, forgive you your sins, open your eyes to God’s truth, strengthen you to do God’s will and give you the joy of his kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen.

Gloria (Tune: “Praise my Soul, the King of Heaven”)

Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son, Glory to the Holy Spirit, ever three and ever one; As it was from the beginning, evermore shall be, Amen. Collect: Let us pray [all should remain standing] A prayerful silence is kept…….

God of glory, touch our lips with the fire of your Spirit, that we with all creation may rejoice to sing your praise; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen.

¶ The Liturgy of the Word 1st Reading: Deuteronomy 6.1-9 1This is the commandment – the statutes and the ordinances – that the LORD your God charged me to teach you to observe in the land that you are about to cross into and occupy, 2so that you and your children and your children’s children may fear the LORD your God all the days of your life, and keep all his decrees and his commandments that I am commanding you, so that your days may be long. 3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe them diligently, so that it may go well with you, and so that you may multiply greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you. 4Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. 5You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. 7Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. 8Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, 9and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

This is the Word of the Lord All Thanks be to God

2nd Reading: Hebrews 9.11-14 11Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), 12he entered once for all into the Holy Place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. 13For if the blood of goats and bulls, with the sprinkling of the ashes of a heifer, sanctifies those who have been defiled so that their flesh is purified, 14how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!

This is the Word of the Lord All Thanks be to God Hymn For the fruits of his creation, thanks be to God; for his gifts to every nation, thanks be to God; for the ploughing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while all are sleeping, future needs in earth's safekeeping, thanks be to God. In the just reward of labour, God's will is done; in the help we give our neighbour, God's will is done; in our world-wide task of caring for the hungry and despairing in the harvests all are sharing, God's will is done. For the harvests of his Spirit, thanks be to God; for the good that all inherit, thanks be to God; for the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us, most of all, that love has found us, thanks be to God. Gospel Reading: Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark

All Glory to you, O Lord. Mark 12.28-34 28One of the scribes came near and heard the religious authorities disputing with one another, and seeing that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, ‘Which commandment is the first of all?’ 29Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” 31The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’ 32Then the scribe said to him, ‘You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that “he is one, and besides him there is no other”; 33and “to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,” and “to love one’s neighbour as oneself” – this is much more important than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.’ 34When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’ After that no one dared to ask him any question.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ.

A Sermon is given Prayers of Intercession Lord, in your mercy All hear our prayer. Lord, hear us All Lord, graciously hear us. Merciful Father, All accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

¶ The Liturgy of the Sacrament The Peace: Blessed are the peacemakers: they shall be called children of God. We meet in the name of Christ and share his peace. The peace of the Lord be with you always. All and also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. Offertory Hymn (money will collected during this)

The bread and wine being presented today been sponsored by Pat Hewitt in loving memory of Frank Salter; Julie Byrne in thanksgiving for Chris Byrne.

I come with joy to meet my Lord, forgiven, loved, and free, in awe and wonder to recall his life laid down for me. I come with Christians far and near to find, as all are fed, the new community of love in Christ's communion bread. As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. That love that made us makes us one, and strangers now are friends. And thus with joy we meet our Lord. His presence, always near, is in such friendship better known: we see and praise him here. Together met, together bound, we'll go our different ways, and as his people in the world, we'll live and speak his praise. The Eucharistic Prayer: The Lord be with you All and also with you. Lift up your hearts All We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God All It is right to give thanks and praise

Page 6: th Sunday before Advent) - Christ Church Gosport - C of E · PDF file(4th Sunday before Advent) ... Trinity Green, Haslar Road - a church in the Anglo-Catholic [smells and bells!]

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation; in your love you made us for yourself. In Jesus you shared our life that we might live in him and he in us. (We sing) O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord hear my prayer; When I call, answer me; O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord hear my prayer; Come and listen to me On the night before he died, at supper with his friends he took bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; do this in remembrance of me. (We sing) O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord hear my prayer; When I call, answer me; O Lord, hear my prayer; O Lord hear my prayer; Come and listen to me. We keep silent for a moment

All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. Please come for communion or a blessing. If you receive communion in any Christian Church, please do so here. If you would like a blessing, please hold this booklet in your hands when you kneel at the rail. During Communion: Peace, perfect peace is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Peace, perfect peace is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends. Peace, perfect peace is the gift of Christ Our Lord. Love, perfect love is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Love, perfect love is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends. Love, perfect love is the gift of Christ Our Lord. Faith, perfect faith is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Faith, perfect faith is the gift of Christ Our Lord, Thus, says the Lord will the world know my friends. Post-Communion Prayers: Lord of heaven, in this eucharist you have brought us near to an innumerable company of angels and to the spirits of the saints made perfect: as in this food of our earthly pilgrimage we have shared their fellowship, so may we come to share their joy in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen. All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. Celebrations and Notices

¶ The Dismissal Blessing: The love of the Lord Jesus draw you to himself, the power of the Lord Jesus strengthen you in his service, the joy of the Lord Jesus fill your hearts; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. All Amen Hymn God of mercy, God of grace, show the brightness of thy face; Shine upon us, Saviour, shine, fill thy Church with light divine; And thy saving health extend, unto earth's remotest end. Let the people praise thee, Lord! Be by all that live adored; Let the nations shout and sing: Glory to their Saviour King; At thy feet their tribute pay, and thy holy will obey. Let the people praise thee, Lord; earth shall then her fruits afford; God to man his blessing give, man to God devoted live; All below, and all above, one in joy and light and love.

CHRISTMAS SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEA: Carol Brownlow’s special Christmas “Afternoon Tea” is on Sunday December 16th, Tickets: £3.50 including a donation to church funds (the 50p increase is due to increasing food prices, but the price is still an absolute bargain!). Admission is by ticket only: please contact Carol on 023 92 504741. THE CHRIST CHURCH CENTRE: As you will all know, Eric and Sue Baker have done a fantastic job in managing our Centre (as the many glowing testimonials from hall users further underline.) But for some time, many of us have been aware of the long hours and great strain this has entailed, especially given that Sue's health is not good. Eric and Sue have decided to step down from their roles with the Centre. We thank them very warmly for all their hard work, and hope that this will give them more time for each other (which they richly deserve!) Having people to manage the Centre who have authority and standing within the church is – I am sure you’ll agree – a great help in keeping the link between the Centre and the life of the church a strong one; which is why I am delighted that Thelma O’Toole (our other Churchwarden) and Kathy Smith have agreed to take over from Eric and Sue, with Thelma (primarily) handling bookings and Kathy (primarily) handling access for those who book the Centre. Eric will continue to be available for “back up”. Kate Evans continues as our cleaner, and Elizabeth Miles and Kathy Ford continue as the catering team, with responsibility for health and hygiene. On that subject, it is crucial that Thelma, Kathy S, Elizabeth and Kathy F work closely to ensure that all hall users are aware (via written and verbal reminders) of their health and hygiene responsibilities – as this was the area of concern that was particularly highlighted during the recent inspection by Gosport Borough Council. The Centre has brought new life to our church, as well as a much-needed financial boost. Long may it continue, and thanks to all those – past and present and future – who are helping it to flourish! SUPPORTING BRITISH FORCES: 40 Commando Royal Marines are in Afghanistan again. They will be there till Feb 2013. Julie Byrne will be sending them parcels and if anyone wishes to contribute it will be greatly appreciated. She will be sending babywipes and multipacks of haribo sweets as when they are on patrol or at the foreward sangers they have no way of washing; babywipes are ideal and individually wrapped small packs of non-melting sweets can be easilly carried in their kit. They don't need anything else so she is reliably informed! There is a box at the back of church for donations. Thank you. OUR MEMORIAL BOOK AND CASE AND STAND We have a beautiful Memorial Book CASE AND STAND, near the War Memorial. The book is in memory of Marjorie Cawte, and in it, the names of the departed are written. There is now a plaque, revealing that the case was given by the Revd David and Mrs Sheila Wood. Brian Mirfield will use his calligraphy skills to add future names. There is a fee of £10.00 per name, to cover the inscribing and a donation to church funds. Forms are available on the back table. The stand was beautifully made by Vic Smith.

SPONSORING THE BREAD AND WINE ON A SUNDAY: If a particular Sunday in the year falls on or near a significant date (perhaps the anniversary of a loved one’s death; a birthday, an anniversary, etc) you can fill in the details on the list in church, and please put £5.00 into the collection. Your name(s), and the dedication (s) will appear on the pewnotes for that week. The list is on the board at the back. CHURCH CLEANING: Please help keep our church looking clean on the second Saturday of the month. We start at 10am and, depending how many turn up, finish at about 11.30. We stop for a cuppa and a chat half way! The more of us, the quicker!! Even if you can only spare half an hour, every little helps.
