Director’s Message I am going to miss this time of the year when the Southern Cross Exhibition comes around. After being Exhibition
Director for 13 years it is time to pass this role on. Next year Jim Metcalfe, one of this year’s Judges, will be taking
over the role of Exhibition Director.
Looking back, a lot has changed in those 13 years. In 2006, my first year as Director, we had the Slide Only Southern
Cross exhibition with 47 entrants. In 2007 I introduced a web electronic image version with image size of just
360x420, the image size that would fit side by side on the monitors of the time. This was well received with 26
entrants, so the club purchase a digital projectors setup in time for the 2008 exhibition, where we opened it up to
1048x768 pixel images. This was the start of the transition to digital exhibitions. By 2012 the slide entrant numbers
had dropped to 26, so we had to close the slide section of the exhibition and we added a landscape section of digital
images. The Sydney Stereo Camera Club updated it digital projectors for the Australian National Stereo Convention in
2013, and ever since our exhibition has been open to wider (1920 x1080) images. It has been very enjoyable to be
involved in these developments, and to have the entrant numbers for the exhibition stabilise around the 40-50 entrants
each year.
A special thank you to our selection panel (Judges) for this year, Bob Price, Jim Metcalfe, and Carlton Wright. We
had an interesting and enjoyable evening selecting the images for the exhibition.
My thanks also go to all of you who entered the exhibition this year. Without your participation the Southern Cross
International Exhibition would not be possible. It is always a great pleasure for us here in Australia to view the work
of photographers from around the world. Congratulations to the major award winners and HM awardees. Jim is
looking forward to your entries next year.
