Enjoyment, Perseverance, Self-Belief 6 th March 2020 (23) Dear Parents and Carers, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who have either donated money towards purchasing our IWB or have bought something from the ‘Amazon Wish List.’ Myself and the staff at Eversley are overwhelmed by your generosity. In the next few weeks I will provide a breakdown of how the resources have been used and where they have been placed. To date, we have received a total of £2,199.50 of financial contributions via ParentPay. I would like to share an example as to why we placed atlases and globes on the ‘Wish List.’ We realised at the start of this week that as a school we had very few of these items. On Tuesday and Thursday every class during ‘Arts Appreciation Morning Starters’ had to listen to music from around the world, while finding the missing capital cities. Due to the lack of atlases and globes, we had to photocopy maps of the world. I thought this was a great way to show how the resources you are buying are really helping. Thank you! Parking on Zig-Zag Lines I want to remind parents and carers how dangerous it is parking on zig-zag lines. This week, a parent parked on the zig-zag lines while dropping off their child and nearly reversed into a child. This has to stop! Toilets Myself and Ali have continued to deep clean the toilets at lunchtime. I have spoken to all the children about flushing the toilets, as some children in both KS1 and KS2 don’t feel they need to flush them. I also demonstrated how to flush a toilet and explained that sometimes the water tank might be refilling, so they need to either push the handle quickly twice or wait for it to refill. This week I met the head of the cleaning company and showed him my expectations on how the toilets should be cleaned. On Tuesday, the cleaners deep cleaned all toilets, including cleaning the tiles. Ali and Colin will continue to clean the toilets at lunchtimes following the new cleaning spec. Please remind your children about personal hygiene and flushing the toilets. British Values Over the last few weeks I have been creating topical PowerPoints for discussion on Wednesday mornings. The children really enjoy debating what is happening in the news and thinking about the future. If you would like to see what your child is learning, please go on to the school website, click on ‘Information’ and then ‘British Values.’ At the bottom of the page you will see all the PowerPoints they have covered.

Safeguarding As a school we are constantly informing all children how to stay safe online. However, as parents you also need to ensure that your children are not playing games, which have a 12+ guideline. I have given examples of games below and the age restrictions.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Best wishes, Samantha Williams Headteacher

Our value of the month is Tolerance

The “Statues at Allen Parkway and Montrose” is a collection of artwork that shows seven sculptures of kneeling men. Formally named Tolerance, this collection of ten-foot, stainless steel framed statues was designed by Jaume Plensa, who is a contemporary Spanish artist and sculptor.

Each of the sculptures is made of a thick stainless steel mesh. This mesh is made up of characters and symbols from many different languages. The Tolerance sculptures were created to reflect unity and diversity. In his official statements on the work, Plensa wrote, “Despite all of the many differences that make us unique, such as religion or language, we are all trying to achieve similar things, such as love, health, prosperity, and the success of our children.” The seven figures of Tolerance represent the Earth’s seven continents, illustrating the similarities of people’s experiences. The definition of tolerance: The ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with. Tolerance quotes: If we could look into each other’s heart and understand the unique challenges each one of us face, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance and care. ~Marvin J. Ashton~ Tolerance and compassion are the qualities of fearless people. ~Paulo Coelho~ Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. ~Dalai Lama~ (Mrs Whitehouse)

Forest School Story Cafe This week we had our first Forest School Story Cafe based around the story of The Tadpole's Promise, which caused a lot of giggles! 3P had a wonderful morning with their parents making friendship bracelets, starting fires, toasting marshmallows, making flower art and willow rainbows, as well as a whole range of other outdoor learning opportunities. There was lots of mud and mess, and big smiles all morning. Thank you to all the parents and carers who braved the mud and embraced Forest School!

Nightingale Forest School

Nightingale children returned for another forest school adventure and this time they learnt that stickman was cold and frozen in the ice. The children explored what happens to ice when it was heated in their hands and on the fire. They observed water boiling and producing steam, before making a delicious hot chocolate for us to share.

Some children enjoyed breaking and smashing coloured ice blocks with small hammers and observing the colours mixing. Whilst others prepared some bird feeders made of ice. It was certainly a busy afternoon of experimenting with ice, and lots of fun was had by all! (Mrs Turner)

3P Forest School Cafe Whilst 3P enjoyed their first Forest School café on Wednesday morning, 3SS and 3OS travelled to Oakwood Park to take part in a pond dipping adventure. Although it was rather wet and rainy, the children wrapped up in their wellies and waterproofs and enjoyed the many puddles. We began by searching for signs of Spring which included the daffodils, tree buds and blossom.

On arrival at the pond, the children observed a dead frog and learnt first hand about the food chains of pond insects, ducks, frogs and herons. They then began pond dipping to explore the pond ecosystem. The children successfully identified lesser and greater water boatman, water scorpions, water fleas, various larvae, pond snails, tadpole and common hoglouse. We are very proud of all the children who showed incredible resilience in challenging conditions. We look forward to more fun and less rain next week! (Mrs Turner)

World Book Day On Thursday 5th March, Eversley celebrated World Book Day. The theme this year was ‘Share a Million Stories’ and the children most certainly did a lot of sharing of books! They began their day with a fun World Book Day assembly and then took part in various reading-based activities in class. They also had the chance to read with children in

other year groups which they thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the children had bedtime stories with their favourite cuddly toys too.

Yesterday, your child will have brought home a £1 World Book Day token. Your child can use their book token in one of the many participating book shops to purchase one of the fifteen exclusive World Book Day books or receive £1 off any full price book instead.

Thank you for your continued support and happy reading! (Mrs Sawkins and Mrs Athanasi)

Enfield Catering Competition

We would like to congratulate Krish (1F) and Aryan (3OS) who are the winners of our

House Point Winners this week are Scott

One of the areas the school is working hard to improve is the attendance of children at Eversley Primary School. The United Nation Convention on the rights of the child entitles them to a Right to Education (Article 28). If the attendance drops below 95%, this could potentially affect any future Ofsted judgement, as well as

children missing vital learning which reduces their chances of success. Please help us to continue the upward trend by ensuring your child comes to school every day and on time.

The overall school attendance to date is 96.43%
