About the ConferenceVector-borne diseases have not only adversely affected the health of the people in the region but also impeded overall socioeconomic development. Some of these diseases are fatal if not treated, while others leave patients disfigured and disabled. They account for 17% of the estimated global burden of all infectious diseases. The National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases (NAVBD) convenes national and international seminars, symposia and workshops to exchange knowledge on recent advances in the field of vectors and vector-borne diseases and raise public awareness. The 14th Conference in the series will be organized jointly by ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar and National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases (NAVBD) at Hotel Swosti Premium, Bhubaneswar from 9th to 11th January 2019.

This conference will cover basic to applied and operational aspects of vector borne diseases. The conference will provide a platform to students, academics, scientists, professional from pharmaceuticals & industry; and above all, the community to join hands in the fight against the scourge of vector borne diseases.

National Academy of Vector and Vector Borne DiseasesThe NAVBD was established under Society Registration Act XXI of 1860; in 1994. It is a nonprofit academic organization dedicated for advancement and promotion of knowledge on Vectors and Vector Borne Diseases, encourage researchers working on vectors and vector borne diseases by recognizing and awarding outstanding research and foster collegiality among the members of the academy. The year 2019 bears a special significance since this is the 25th year of the academy. To commemorate its silver jubilee, the academy will organize special lectures on different burning topics and cutting edge research by inviting researchers of national and international repute.

ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, BhubaneswarICMR- RMRC, Bhubaneswar, established in 1981, undertakes research in both communicable as well as non-communicable diseases of regional importance and human resource developments. The thrust areas of research include lymphatic filariasis, malaria and other VBD (chikungunya, dengue, and JE), tuberculosis, acute viral diseases, diarrheal and other bacterial infections. The centre as a part of the national surveillance in nutrition, cholera, AES/JE, TB and Zika vector has expanded its activities into adjoining states. Collaborations have been initiated with national and international organizations to work on new frontiers of research.

BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is a hub for higher education and research with several government and privately funded Universities, Colleges and Research organizations of CSIR, ICAR, DAE, DBT and ICMR. The city is well known for its architecture and ancient temples. The twin cave groups of Kandagiri and Udayagiri are evidence of the region's antiquity, dating to the 2nd century BC or the early Jain monastery. Silver filigree, Stone and Wood carving, Patta paintings, Tie and Dye textiles, bamboo basketry, brass and bell metal work, horn work, and many other famous handicrafts of Odisha can be possessed as souvenirs from the local markets. The world famous Puri (Jagannath Temple), Konark (Sun temple) and Chilka lake are within 60-70 km radius of the city. Bhubaneswar can be visited round the year, but the ideal time, especially for visitors from colder climes, would be from October to March. Hence in January, Bhubaneswar will at its prime when the ICOV-14 will take place in the city.

About the VenueSwosti Premium Hotel, the venue of the conference hugely popular among locals as well as tourists coming to Bhubaneswar, is considered the largest Convention Hotel in all of Eastern India.
