TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s 48th season was a celebration of stunning productions, innovative arts education programs, and thedevelopment of over a dozen new works for the stage. As one ofAmerica’s outstanding professional theatres, we reached over100,000 audience members with our mainstage productions, whilelaunching new works that have now been seen around the globe.

TheatreWorks’ exhilarating 48th season began with the World Premiere of The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga, atragicomic saga of Japanese newcomers to America at the turn-of-the-last-century. Next, West End/Broadway hit Constellationsexplored love and quantum physics for Silicon Valley audiences. October saw the World Premiere of our largest production in years,Stephen Schwartz’s The Prince of Egypt, based on the blockbusterfilm. The holidays brought the entire family the uproarious theatricality of Around the World in 80 Days, and for adult audiences, the hilarious satire of The Santaland Diaries. Genius marked theNew Year, as Hershey Felder explored the inspiring music and closeted life of a brilliant composer in Our Great Tchaikovsky, while the humanity of working people touched our hearts in the recession-set drama Skeleton Crew. We welcomed spring with thepassionate musical The Bridges of Madison County, then witnessedthe arts “under fire” in the McCarthy-era hearings of FINKS. The 2017/18 season garnered 26 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award Nominations, winning in seven categories including Best Production in the Bay Area for The Four Immigrants.

Titled TheatreWorksAround the World, and inspired by the company’s holiday productionof Around the World in 80 Days, the gala celebrated the many locations our productions have taken audiences over our 48-year history. Dinner table décor evoked these regions or countries of theworld, and attendees wore costumes matching their table’s selectedtheme. An entertaining cocktail hour encouraged guests to explorevarious destinations in our party rooms and have their “passports”stamped by costumed volunteers. Celebrity auctioneer, Donald Corren, joined a talented cast of artists whose musical revue took theaudience on a tour of music from past TheatreWorks productions.
