The San Francisco/Northern California Chapterannually honors outstanding individual, news andprogram achievements in Northern California,Hawaii and Reno. The purpose of conferring thecoveted Emmy® statuette is to provide incentivefor continuing outstanding individual and pro-duction achievements within the televisionindustry. The Emmy® Awards program is also ameans of focusing public attention upon themulti-talented individuals who comprise thisbusiness and to honor them. There can be oneaward, more than one award or no award pre-sented in each category.
This was a record year with 896 entries (761 English and 135Spanish) submitted in 67 categories from the calendar year 2014,for Emmy® award consideration. All entries were submitted anduploaded through Emmy® Express and then judged online by thefollowing NATAS chapters: Chicago/Midwest; Mid-Atlantic (Philadel-phia); Northwest (Seattle); and Suncoast (Miami). At least fivepeers viewed and scored each entry. English and Spanish entrieswere judged separately. The online programs were scored forcontent, creativity, and execution (1 to 10 points), for a possibletotal of 30 points. Craft categories were judged on creativity andexecution only, for a possible 20 points. After scoring all the entriesin the category, the judge certified his or her scores and the ballotwas sent directly to Spalding and Company, our accounting firm forprocessing.
A tabulated sheet representing each category, with separateentries for English and Spanish-but not identified-was presented tothe Awards Committee. The committee determined a cut-off scorein each category and entries above that score were considerednominees. The committee then selected the Emmy® recipients byhighest scores. The Awards Committee members made theseselections without knowing which entries or categories were beingconsidered. The nominations were announced May 6, 2015 on theInternet. 230 English and 57 Spanish entries were nominated with873 certificates being handed out to 517 individuals. Tonight, werecognize the top scores of Emmy® award excellence.

Anything Doesn’t Go
To help you remember therules, our musical directorMarcus Shelby haswritten the thoughts intoa song for our openingnumber. It’s a take off onCole Porter’s AnythingGoes sung byTiffany Austin.
The Bridge is aSing-a-long...
Submit a person who will represent All of the cast that’s present But No, No, No...Anything doesn’t go.
If that person is not available Others can come if able, To get that goldBut that’s as far as it goes
Bridge:If you hear your name tonightCome stage left or rightThen you’ll grab the micTo thank those you likeThen you’ll leave the lightOffstage left -not rightTo the red carpet so you can pose.
If your name was not designatedIt’s not because you’re fadedBut in our showAnything doesn’t go!
In golden days there was no limitBut now we have got to trim it To 30 below (That’s seconds!)Anything doesn’t go.
Bridge: If the script you writeFor the cast you likeFor the show that mightTake the gold tonightThen on the micYou only got tonight30 seconds to compose.Anything doesn’t go.
On the red you’re cool to speakThank everyone in MozambiquePour out your soul(There) Anything goes!

The Governors’ AwardDavid LouieReporter, KGO ABC 7Former National NATAS ChairmanSilver Circle class of 1995Governors’ Service Medallion 1985
Presenter:Stan BurfordFormer Executive ProducerKGO ABC 7Trafficman, KGO RadioSilver Circle class of 2000Former NATAS Chapter President
The Governors’ Award is the highest Award a local chaptercan bestow. It is for recognition of achievements byindividuals, organizations or companies which do not fallwithin the structure of the Chapter’s regional Area Awards.Historically, Board of Governors’ Awards are for trulyoutstanding and unique accomplishments, or forachivements of some duration and durability.
Over a span of 43 years at ABC7 News, DavidLouie has covered some of the biggest stories inthe Bay Area and Northern California, includingearthquakes, floods, the kidnap of heiress PattyHearst, the disappearance of an entire bus ofschool children in Chowchilla, and the outbreakof SARS and toxic shock syndrome. He has beena reporter, an anchor, an assistant news director,a bureau chief and a business editor, coveringthe rise of Silicon Valley. His work has beenrecognized with four Emmy® awards.

David joined KGO-TV in 1972 rightout of Northwestern University’sjournalism school. However, his TVcareer began at the tender age offive when he appeared for eightyears on a weekly public affairsshow on the NBC affiliate in Cleve-land. He worked at two Clevelandand two Chicago TV stationsduring his undergraduate years. He was part of the KGO-TV “NewsScene” team to report from Chinain 1979, a first for a local TVstation, one year after normaliza-tion of relations with the U.S.
In 1976, he was elected to the Board ofGovernors of the San Francisco/NorthernCalifornia Chapter of NATAS, serving aslocal awards chair, national trustee and amember of the national awards committee. In 1990, David became a NATAS officer, elected first as Vice Chairman and thenChairman of the Board, the first minority tohold that post. As chairman, he helped tocreate a $20,000 NATAS scholarship, promoted media literacy, and led profes-sional delegations to Asia and Europe.
His passion to encourage more minorities toenter TV and to assist with their skillsdevelopment led to leadership roles in theAsian American Journalists Association(AAJA), serving as local chapter presidentand then national president. He currentlyserves on the board of the Radio TelevisionDigital News Association (RTDNA) and itsfoundation.
He has mentored many youngprofessionals and students throughthe years and has volunteered formany community groups and boards. He is also an avid photographer andfoodie.
