Synopsis

This event will be chock-full of events, excitement, and friends. We will start the event off with

a small meet and greet at the host hotel. There will be snacks and beverages to welcome you to St.

Louis. There will be an area to place your state baskets down for the auction. Questions can be

answered if any arise. It will be a good time to settle in.

Thursday starts the excitement. Join us at the herding event to test your dog’s ability to herd

sheep. We will start in the morning and go through to the late afternoon. There will be 2 separate

events to test your dog’s ability. Have you already accomplished your herding instinct? Step up and try

the Herding Tested level. This is the next step in the sport of herding. If you would like, you can skip this

level and jump directly into Pre-Trial Tested herding, a little more challenging and a lot more fun.

Friday starts the conformation events. It will be a part of the all-breed show at Purina. Have

you heard about people doing different events that you have never seen? Well, there will be a few non

titling events offered to try your luck. There will be Lure Coursing (chasing a white baggy around a small

course), Dock Diving (does your dog like water and will jump in willingly?), and a Barn Hunt like

experience (can your dog find varmint?). We will have these things to see if your dog has the knack.

There will be an instinct type test to see if your dog has any interest. Then there will be a higher

level of the rat finding experience. You will have between 1 and 3 rats to find. You will not be told how

many. You will have to rely on your ability to read your dog. Let them tell you when they are done.

They will have to discern between tubes filled with nesting and tubes filled with rats. There will always

be five tubes, but you will not know how many have rats. There will be assistance to foster you and

your dog’s ability to hunt. Titles can start at the RATI and move into RATN.

Does your dog jump into water? Come join us at the pool at Purina. Let your dog show you that

they are capable of jumping into a pool and earning a DN title. They only have to fall into the pool to

earn this one. If they are able to produce greater distances, they may be able to get the DJ title.

Will your dog run after rabbits and squirrels? This one may be a no brainer. We will have a

small course set up for your dog to try this event. Most commonly offered to sight hounds, this event

has opened up to all breeds. The titles are different, but the same job is performed. See how easy it is

to get started with your CAT title here.

21

Friday will also play host to our club’s great orator, Thordur Runolfsson. He will be at Purina to

hold a judge’s education.

Following Mr. Runolfsson’s seminar, Purina will then be the location for a titling obedience

event. This event is still pending but looks to be doable.

When Friday’s events are wrapping up, let us get together at Sugarfire 44. This is a restaurant

that has partnered with a couple of other BBQ places in St. Louis. When you look on the lists of best

BBQ places in America, you are bound to find at least 1 of them on the list. There are actual 2 of them

on CNN’s list. This may be due to the fact they offer the essential 3 b’s. BBQ, beer, and buddies.

The event you have all waited for will arrive on Saturday, the Icelandic Sheepdog National

Specialty. Come show your dog, support a friend’s dog, or learn about a breed you have never seen.

Come be a part of our show. There will be events to show off your puppies and events to show off your

seniors. There will be awards for many classes that are not typically offered. The Best of Breed will

move on to the herding group.

Following the show, there will be an Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America club meeting.

We hope everyone can attend. Please show your support, let your voices be heard, and your concerns

professed. This club needs to hear new ideas and fix old problems.

Saturday evening will be the time of the official banquet. This will be located at the host hotel. I

really hope everyone will attend this event. We will pass out awards for the day’s events and then have

many laughs during the “State Basket” auction. This will help fund the I.S.A.A. and the Icelandic Rescue,

N.I.S.R.A. We are a small club with many very caring individuals. Please attend and show your support

for these wonderful creatures that have been bestowed upon us. Feel free to donate items for the

drawing and auctions. You do not have to be present to donate, just mail your items to Ken Olson, 707

Ruprecht Ave., St. Louis, MO 63125-1419. Please let us know what is being sent beforehand so that we

can keep track of what we need to beg, borrow, and plead for from vendors. Money is always

appreciated to.

Sunday? Let there be rest. There will be an all-breed show at Purina. Nothing club related has

been planned yet.
