    Celebrate the season with theLourdes College Choirs andMaumee Community Band

    The Toledo SymphonyOrchestra will return forthe 20th year to play aNeighborhood Concertat St. Joseph Church inSylvania on Dec. 1 at7:30 p.m. The first such

    concert took place inDecember of 1989. Lastyear, because of a con-flict with dates, a con-cert was not scheduled.

    Jeffrey Pollock, con-ductor of the ToledoSymphony Orchestra,will direct theNeighborhood Concertin a program of classicaland Christmas music.Two of the St. Josephchoirs will be includedin portions of the pro-gram.

    The Toledo Symphonyoffice has announcedthe program will includeworks by Harris (AdesteFideles); Bach-Walton(Sheep May SafelyGraze); Harris (GodRest Ye); Adam (OHoly Night, with chil-drens choir); Anderson(Song of the Bells); Hess(Christmas Overture);

    Dorff (PachelbelsChristmas); Greene-Lowry (Mary Did YouKnow, with adult choir);OBoyle (ChristmasStory); Norris (PopsSingalong); and

    Anderson (ChristmasFestival).Tickets for the con-

    Neighborhood concertMilitary Brief David T. Shipko grad-

    uated from the ArmyROTC (Reserve OfficerTraining Corps) LeaderDevelopment andAssessment Course, also

    known as OperationWarrior Forge, at FortLewis, Tacoma, Wash.

    The 32 days of train-ing provide the best pos-sible professional train-ing and evaluation forall cadets in the aspectsof military life, admin-istration and logisticalsupport. Although con-tinued military trainingand leadership develop-ment is included in thecurriculum, the primaryfocus of the course isto develop and evalu-ate each cadets officerpotential as a leader byexercising the cadetsintelligence, common

    sense, ingenuity andphysical stamina. Thecadet command assess-es each cadets perfor-mance and progressin officer traits, quali-

    ties and professional-ism while attending thecourse.

    Cadets in their juniorand senior year of col-lege must complete theleadership developmentcourse. Upon success-ful completion of thecourse, the ROTC pro-gram, and graduationfrom college, cadets arecommissioned as secondlieutenants in the U.S.Army, National Guard,or Reserve.

    The cadet is a stu-dent at the Universityof Southern California,Los Angeles.

    He is the son of DavidT. and Mary K. Shipkoof Westcliffe Court,Sylvania, OH.

    Shipko graduated in2007 from St. JohnsJesuit High School,Toledo, Ohio.
