Preparing the Camera

Inserting the battery and card

Insert the battery as illustrated with theC mark

toward the battery lock knob.Damage to the battery exterior (scratches, etc.) mayproduce heat or an explosion.

Insert the battery while sliding the battery lock knob inthe direction of the arrow.

Insert the card straight until it clicks into place.

Turn off the camera before opening the battery/card

compartment cover.

When using the camera, be sure to close and lock

the battery/card compartment cover.

Slide the battery lock knob in the direction of thearrow to unlock, and then remove the battery.

Always use SD/SDHC/SDXC cards or Eye-Fi cardwith this camera. Do not insert other types of memory

cards. Using the card (p. 65)

Do not touch the contact area of the card directly.This camera can be used without a card by storingimages in its internal memory.

Press the card in until it clicks and comes out slightly,

then remove the card.

Charging the battery with the

included USB-AC adapter

The included F-2AC USB-AC adapter (hereafter

referred to as USB-AC adapter) differs dependingon the region where you purchased the camera. Ifyou received a plug-in type USB-AC adapter, plug itdirectly into AC outlet.

The included USB-AC adapter has been designedto be used for charging and playback. Do not takepictures while the USB-AC adapter is connected to

the camera.

Be sure to unplug the power plug of the USB-ACadapter from the wall outlet when the charging is

complete or the playback ends.

The battery can be charged while the camera is

connected to the computer. Charging time varies

depending on the performance of a computer. (Theremay be cases in which it takes approx. 10 hours.)

The battery is not fully charged at shipment. Beforeuse, be sure to charge the battery until the indicatorlamp turns off (up to 4 hours).

If the indicator lamp does not light, the USB-ACadapter is not connected to the camera correctly,

or the battery, camera, or USB-AC adapter may bebroken.

When to charge the batteriesCharge the battery when the error message shown belowappears.

Installation of [ib] computer software using thesupplied CD is available on Windows computers only.

1 Insert the supplied CD in a CD-ROM drive.

A Setup dialog will be displayed.

An Autorun dialog will be displayed. Click OLYMPUSSetup to display the Setup dialog.

If the Setup dialog is not displayed, select MyComputer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows

Vista/Windows 7) from the start menu. Double-clickthe CD-ROM (OLYMPUS Setup) icon to open theOLYMPUS Setup window and then double-clickLauncher.exe.

If a User Account Control dialog is displayed, clickYes or Continue.

2Register your Olympus product. Click the Registration button and follow the on-screen instructions.

To register the camera must be connected to thecomputer. Connecting the camera (p. 12)

If nothing is displayed on the camera screen evenafter connecting the camera to the computer, thebattery may be exhausted. Charge the battery andthen connect the camera again.

3Install OLYMPUS Viewer 2 and [ib] computersoftware.

Check the system requirements before beginninginstallation.

Click the OLYMPUS Viewer 2 or OLYMPUS ibbutton and follow the on-screen instructions to

install the software.

are saved to image file names, date prints, and other data.

Before Using GPS

The cameras GPS (Global Positioning System) featuredetermines your position (latitude and longitude) and

stores this information with pictures taken with thecamera.

The camera uses supplementary orbital data (assistedGPS or A-GPS) for improved signal acquisition.A-GPS data must be updated every 14 days.

Before using GPS, you will need to set the camera clockto the correct date and time. (p. 15)

Updating A-GPS Data

1 Install the update software (OLYMPUS A-GPS

Utility). Download the update software from the followingwebsite and install it on your computer.

If the icon is still flashing after several minutes,

the camera is probably having difficulty detectinga signal. Move to an unobstructed outdoor area orotherwise change your location.

Turn GPS off when on board aircraft and in otherlocations in which the use of GPS devices isprohibited.

The provision of A-GPS data may be terminatedwithout prior notice.

Position data may be unavailable or contain errors in

the following locations:

Locations without a clear view of the sky (indoors,underground or underwater, or near trees or tallbuildings)

Locations subject to strong magnetic or radiointerference (near high-voltage power lines,magnets, electronic devices, or cell phonesoperating in the 1.5 GHz band)

GPS data may take more time acquire or be

unavailable in some locations or at certain times ofday.

Do not cover the GPS antenna with your hands ormetal objects.

If the battery is low, the camera cannot acquire GPSdata while the camera turns off.

The camera is not equipped for GPS navigation.

While [Track] is [On], the GPS receiver will continueto draw power from the battery when the camera isoff.

GPS data are not recorded with movies.

Press the INFO button while the camera is turnedoff. The current time and the shooting location aredisplayed for approx. 30 seconds.

Shooting with the optimum aperture

value and shutter speed (Pmode)

In this mode, automatic shooting settings are activated

while also allowing changes to a wide range ofother shooting menu functions, such as exposurecompensation, white balance, etc. as needed.

The default settings of the function are highlighted in.

The effects of the set shooting mode can be usedwhen shooting movies. When the set shooting modeis (some modes) orP (some modes),shooting is performed in P mode.

Sound will also be recorded.

If the peak fills too much of the frame, the

Playing back grouped images

Depending on the settings, the taken images are

displayed as a group during playback. Several operationsare available for the grouped images; such as expandingto view or erase images respectively, or erasing thegrouped images collectively.
