TYPICAL CHIMNEY POT ASSEMBLY

The underside of the SS Top flashing MUST have non combustible support to take the weight of the Chimney pot, as shown by the red arrows. The flashing MUST NOT be the sole form of support for the pot

TYPICAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE REQUIRING A BASE PLATE:

The following procedure is based on the chimney chase being completed with the flue installed and awaiting the Top Flashing and Spigot, Base Plate, top Flue section and the Pot to be attached. (Refer to slide # 3)

• Ensure the underside of the Top Flashing and spigot has been prepared so that the underside is totally supported with non combustible material such as AAC panels so that any weight from above will not depress or deform the Top Flashing (Refer to slide # 3). Fix in place.

• Next fit the SS Base Plate with a suitable silicon or urethane adhesive on the 4 outer flat edges (Refer slide # 8) in conjunction with 3 x 3mm dia. x 20mm self tapping SS screws to attach the top of the Base Plate spigot to the Top Flashing, approximately 15mm down from the top of the spigot. Space screws equally around top.

• Place the bottom Terracotta Pot section onto the Base Plate. Rotate 4 x Z clips into place as shown on slides 5 and 9. Ensure bolts are securely tightened – DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as this may damage the pot. Dab some silicon onto the nuts to prevent them coming loose over time.

• Assemble the Top Spider, Casing Cover and Butterfly Cowl to the end of Flue section and ensure securely fixed in place with SS screws.

• Final assembly is to attach the top of the Terracotta Pot to the bottom pot section using 3 x SS wires to secure in place on the 3 tags inside the pot. If preferred, the pot top may also be attached using silicon adhesive. However, this will make it difficult (but not impossible) to remove the pot for whatever reason at a later date should this be required. Bird proofing may be required for all apertures in the chimney pot and the baseplate the chimney pot sits on.

The Terracotta Pot should now be able to freely shed any rainwater through the installation and also permit free air to be drawn up through the underside of the base plate and the holes in the pot base.

SS CAPPING FOR TOP OF CHIMNEY CHASE6

Ensure the underside of the SS Capping is fully supported on the underside to prevent any deformation due to the weight of the Chimney Pot once installed. (Refer to slide # 3)
