Penn State National Invite:A majority of the marquee performances could be found in State College, as a large group of

UMBC athletes will compete at the prestigious Penn State National Invite. All IC4A/ECAC

qualifiers will be in attendance as well as a strong group of athletes on the cusp of post seaso

competition qualifying. This will be the first massive test for Mercedes Jackson in the 60 mete

as making the final alone will put her in a position to make a bid for the National Meet. Also

look for Denny Long to make his first appearance since December after qualifying for the IC4A

meet. Both Jackson and Long will be competing in the 200 meters as well.

The long sprints will feature Josh Hewitson in the 500 meters and the young womens squad

both the 400 meters and 500 meters. Hewitson will be looking for his first sub-1:04 clocking othe year while Kirsten Jones will be making her 400 meter debut. Watch for Deborah Adelola

make a statement in the 500 meters after running two straight strong legs on the 4x400m rel

She could have her first sub 1:16 clocking of her career.

The distance events will feature Andrew Smith who will be seeking both an IC4A qualification

and possibly flirting with the school record after running a relaxed 1:23 600 meters and a 49.8

leg in the 4x400 meters last weekend on a flat track. Cross country leaders Todd Cowing and

Brandan McGee will go after sub 15 minute times in the 5,000 meters after having trained

    through the last meet.

The throws will feature a duo of weight throwers in Cameron McDearmon and newcomer Ch

    Nash who site 3

    rd

    and 4

    th

respectively on the All Time List. School record holder Aaron Brookswill take the ring in the shot put as will the ladies duo of Amanda Deller and Chrissy Robinson

with Deller throwing in both the shot and weight, and Robinson in the shot.

    Chris Nash:

A mid-year transfer from the University of

Maryland competing in his first meet for UMBC,

Nash wasted no time claiming the victory in the

Mens Weight Throw with a #4 All Time

performance which happened to be a personal

best throw by over two feet. With another week of

practice under his wings, look for more dramatic

    improvement.

George Mason Patriot Games:The other half of the team will travel to nearby George Mason on Saturday, where there will b

many athletes capable of breakout performances in attendance as well. In the sprints, look to

Sean Cooper to lead the way with a 7.02 performance at the Penn State Relays earlier in the

season and Kyle Baker who looks poised for a breakout performance. For the women watch fo

Blossom Metevier who will be looking to build on her sub-8 clocking form earlier in the season

The bulk of the distance athletes will be racing across all events. Highlights should include

freshman Eric Schuler in the mile, who set a big PR in the 3,000 meters last weekend and a PR

the mile the week before. The 800 meters could be a hotly contested event with Charles

Bolinger and Pat Hairfield battling a doubling Schuler for relay spots later in the season. Keri

Wison will return to the 3,000 meters two weeks after setting a PR in the event and Cody

Mezebish will represent UMBC in the 800m, trying to regain a spot on the All Time Performan

List. Mary Katherine Kulp will look to better her top 10 standings in the conference in the 1000

    meters.

The field events will feature Aboshioma Obemeata and Oladosu Teyibo in the triple jump. Bot

sit in the Top 3 of the Conference standing in this event, and Teyibo will double in the long jum

as well. In the throws Top Ten All Time Performer Monica Hagenauer will take the ring as will

    sophomore Ray Stinsman.

    Meet

    Coverage

    Bison Multi Meet:

A small group of athletes will head up to the Bison Open.

The highlight should be the first performances of freshmen

Malte Bertram and Eric Ezenwanne in their inaugural indoorheptathlon. While Bertram has an extensive multi-event

resume, this will be Ezewannes first attempt. Also look to

junior Sean Kshmetski who has made huge jumps in heights

in the pole vault to keep up the momentum.

    Terrapin Meet Invite Recap:

The womens team took home a third place finish as a team

and the mens team took home a fourth place finish last

weekend at the Terrapin Invite. Highlights included:

Mercedes Jackson winning the 60m dash

Amanda Deller winning the Shot Put

Chris Nash winning the Weight Throw
