    America East Championship

    Meet Preview:

2008 was the last year that the UMBC Retrievers competed on the arctic tundra of

the University of Maine for the America East Championships. That year they

finished third on the mens side and fourth on the womens side. After finishing

third on the womens side and fifth on the mens side at the Indoor Championships,

both teams are looking to move up the team rankings in the Outdoor edition.

Heading into the meet, Mercedes Jackson looks to repeat her Most Outstanding

Rookie performance having set the Conference lead in the 100 meter dash and

sitting in the second position in the 200 meter dash. She is in range of the top All

Time Performances at the Conference meet in both events.

Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Indoor Championships Amanda Deller

opened up last weekend at Penn Relays with a 47-3 in the shot put. A five time

Conference Champion in the event, she will be pulling triple duty as she will be

competing in the hammer and discus as well.

Heading into the meet, sophomore Brandan McGee holds the second fastest time

in the Conference in the steeple. His IC4A qualifying time puts him in range of

possibly contending for the Conference title and earning an NCAA East Region bid.

Aaron Brooks is also beginning to heat up in the throws events. He has shown the

potential for a podium finish in both events, and will even lend support in the

    hammer throw as well.

After finishing second in the indoor heptathlon, freshman Malte Bertram will be

looking to move up to the number one position as the multi-events expand to ten

events. The additional events play to his strengths so it could be in the cards.
