Park life – Blur Textual Analysis The music video to the song Park life by Blur is an inspiration to our coursework in many ways. Firstly, the song that the video is created for is, in fact, the song we are using for our main piece of coursework. We aim to create our own music video to coincide with this specific song and make our own interpretations stemmed from different inspirations from different areas. The use of sound is a vital part within our coursework, as to create a music video; the sound/lip syncing must be perfect. Other inspirations we drew from the video is the narrative, or lack of, that runs throughout the video. There is a general narrative throughout the verses of the song that corresponds in the video. We aim to have a party like theme running throughout the verses, showing the gradual progression and disarray of a party scene. The post production editing will be essential in this to ensure the scenes gradually progress The chorus’, however, have little or no narrative at all and are purely random shots. They are all in the same location but are disheveled in the sense of them not linking together or making much sense at all. Also, they do not correspond with the narrative that takes place in the verses so creates a slight diversity within the video. We plan to use this as inspiration by using the mise en scene aspect in the chorus’ by using the same location but having no running narrative between shots. The chorus’, however, have little or no narrative at all and are purely random shots. They are all in the same location but are disheveled in the sense of them not linking together or making much sense at all. Also, they do not correspond with the narrative that takes place in the verses so creates a slight diversity within the video. Post production editing is not as important within these shots as they have no clear narrative; however, a sense of progression needs to be evident. The use of camera is important within these shots as a majority are from the same angle/ position. This allows for easy editing and creates a flow within the video.

We plan to make the mise en scene quite realistic in the sense of using a normal house as our location. This is inspired by the Park life video as all the locations and the mise en scene are extremely realistic. This makes the video seem more “real life” and relatable to the audience. We aim for our video to look/ seem exactly as it is with very little post production editing to the shots themselves.
