Freidhelm Hillebrandt was where texting all began.

Hillebrandt was born in Warstein, Germany, in 1940.

Hillebrandt was a keen amateur radio enthusiast and soon

became an engineer and a technician. He helped settle on

the 160 character limit for each text sent. He was also

know as the “Father of the Text”.

About 6,000 deaths have been causedeach year because of texting while driving.
