The Passing of the Peaceis one of the most ancient worship responses. Having received Christ’s peace, we pass it on.

Today's offertory anthem by Leo Sowerby (1895-1968) is a masterful expression of genuine religious faith. This setting of Psalm 121 avoids counterpoint and includes blues-influenced harmony, yielding a work that has remained a repertory staple of church choirs for over 75 years. Early on, a publisher purchased the anthem for a one-time payment of $10. Much to the composer's chagrin, he would receive no royalties on what was destined to become a "best seller."

Doxology is a term used to describe an expression of praise to God. Feel free to sing the last phrase as “Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost” if you wish.

The Peace One: The peace of the Lord be with you. All: And also with you.

* (11:00) Hymn of Response 258 Holy WisdomHymn Tune: SALVE REGINA COELITUM

Invitation to Offering

Receiving of Tithes and Offerings I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes • Leo SowerbyChancel Choir and Adrianna Jagodzinski, mezzo-soprano Dr. Todd Prickett, choirmaster I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made hea’ven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper; thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil, He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.

The information in these margins will guide you through worship. If you have any questions, please ask a greeter, usher or minister.

Red text is read by the congregation. Asterisks (*) indicate times when you are invited to stand. Feel free to remain seated if need be.

As we worship, we are always aware that no words can adequately describe God or encompass God’s nature. Feel free to say or sing “Mother” or “Creator” instead of “Father” depending on how you think about God.

The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer Jesus taught his disciples. We say it together each week following the Pastoral Prayer.
