The 10th Annual Fort Worth Critical Care Conference is designed for those in the fields of: critical care medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, geriatrics, hospitalists, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology, palliative care medicine, pulmonology and trauma surgery, as well as advanced practice providers, dieticians, medical residents, nurses, pharmacists and respiratory therapists.

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

Managing Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure • Define ventilator-induced lung injury

• Determine the role of high-flow oxygen therapy

• Review recent adjuncts to mechanical ventilator support that impact outcomes

Synthetic Drugs and Legal Highs • Summarize the new trends in drugs that are peaking around the nation (K2, Spice, Bath Salts, Flakka, N-Bomb, B-Fly)

• Identify drugs known as designer synthetics and legal highs

• Review symptoms of patients under the influence of synthetic drugs, and identify signs of overdose or critical illness

• Discuss management options in treating patients who have used or overdosed on synthetic drugs

Rescue therapy for Influenza-related Lung Injury • Define the pathophysiology of influenza-related lung injury

• Review conventional approaches to management of severe acute lung injury

• Explain available rescue modalities of therapy associated with severe influenza-related lung injury

Sepsis: Emerging Concepts • Discuss the impact of sepsis in critically ill patients

• Define clinical definitions and recognition of sepsis

• Recommend new approaches to managing sepsis

Interventional Radiology and the Critical Care Patient • Describe the role of interventional radiology in caring for a critically ill patient

• Review endovascular treatment options and imaging workups for gastrointestinal bleeding

• Discuss embolization procedures for different bleeding sites

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy in Acute Kidney Injury:Principles and Practice in 2016 • Review basic principles and indications for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

• Discuss controversies related to early versus late renal replacement therapy

• Analyze fluid regulation with CRRT

• Discuss CRRT goals of therapy

OMG – My Patient is Bleeding! Use, Reversal and Risk • Review the current indications of Direct Oral Anti-Coagulants (DOACs)

• Discuss the bleeding risk associated with DOACs

• Discuss various strategies used in controlling bleeding when a patient is taking DOACs

• Discuss potential reversal agents that can be used in the event of life-threatening bleeding and emergent surgery
