The Advising and Mentoring Center is committed to student success. Our full-time staff con-sists of Academic Advisors who provide degree evaluation and registration assistance for freshmen and sophomore students, Retention Specialists who monitor the academic progress of students who have been placed on Academic Probation, and an Athletic Academic Coordi-nator who assists student athletes as they progress through their degree plans in compliance with NCAA regulations. Our part-time staff consists of student mentors who offer resource in-formation and academic guidance during individual weekly meetings for UNIV 1101 and 1102 freshmen students.

Freshmen enrolled in UNIV 1101 and 1102 meet with their student mentors throughout their first year at TAMIU. Each mentoring session consists of a variety of topic discussions such as time management, exploring UConnect, reviewing degree plans, GPA Calculations, and is tai-lored to each students’ interests and academic concerns throughout their two initial semesters. Our student mentors also provide assistance with campus resource referrals if needed.

Title V: Engaging Sophomores attempts to ease the transition from first year to second year through academic advising and career and personal counseling for TAMIU sophomore stu-dents. Title V also promotes stu-dent success through service learning, tutoring, supplemental instruction, and faculty develop-ment.

The Council for Educational Ex- cellence (CEE) is committed to providing leadership and support aimed at increasing participation and success among all students, pre-kindergarten through college, in postsecondary education and the workforce through effective partnerships with the independent school districts (ISDs), institutions of higher education (IHEs), business, and the community in our service area. This critical work will be undertaken in a spirit of collaboration and mutual interest for improving the quality of education in our communities. To fulfill this mission, the CEE represents key stakehold-ers in education in the South Texas region: Jim Hogg, Maverick, Webb, and Zapata counties. Generation TX is about passionate belief. It’s students, families, friends, and educators who believe that all Texas students belong on the path to education beyond high school. Associate Director: Siobhan Rosales 956-326-2807
