Welcome to Tettenhall Medical Practice
This booked is designed to inform you of the medical and other services
available at the surgery. Please read the contents carefully and keep it in a
safe place for future reference. It will be particularly useful if you or one of
your family are ill and want to know what action to take, or how to get
professional help.

Nursing Team
A member of our nursing team is usually in attendance at both Lower Green &
Wood Road during surgery hours, however times may vary due to clinic
constraints.
Regular health checks and health promotion services are available for long
term health conditions such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes and
hypertension (high blood pressure).

Nurses are happy to discuss menopause and contraception, please enquire at

Minor surgery is performed by arrangement after consultation with the

Our reception staff are here to help you, they are trained and qualified for the
job and are a very important part of the health team.
They act on doctors instructions, when phoning for medical attention they
may ask for some details that the doctor needs to know. So that they can help
you in the most appropriate way. Please be patient with this part of the
system.
They can also advise you on the range of services that are available.

The practice uses the NHS E-Referral system which is a national service that
combines electronic appointment booking with a choice of place, date and
time for a patients first appointment with a specialist. Using this service to
book hospital and clinic appointments the patient receives a service that is
more tailored to the needs of the individual.
The practice E-Referral or Choose and Book team are more than happy to deal
with any queries relating to this service and is contactable through both Lower
Green and Wood Road surgery reception.
NHS Zero Tolerance to Violence & Aggression
Tettenhall Medical Practice observes the policy of Wolverhampton Clinical
Commissioning Group and does not tolerate physical or verbal abuse offered
towards any member of the practice team or other patients.
Instances of violent or threatening behaviour will result in removal of the
patient involved from the practice list and the incident will be reported to the
police.
How to See Your Doctor
Appointments may be made by telephone, online or in person without
prejudice and regardless of when you were last seen. Patients have the right
to express a preference as to which doctor they wish to see. The practice will
endeavour to accommodate preferences, however that doctor may not always
be available. If this is the case then you will be seen by your named GP.
Please let us know if you cannot keep your appointments so that it can be
offered to someone else. Patients can use either surgery for any
appointments.

Emergency Out of Hours or Advice - 111
Urgent Same Day Appointments
Patients needing to be seen urgently on the same day should telephone the
surgery at 8.00am.
Routine Appointments
Routine pre-bookable appointments are available up to 4 weeks in advance -
for these appointments please telephone after 9.00am.
Home Visits
Home visits are available for those patients who are too ill, immobile or
housebound and thus unable to attend surgery. Whenever possible please
telephone the surgery 01902 444550 (Lower Green) or 01902 444560 (Wood
Road) before 10.00am.
Please give sufficient details of the problem in order that doctors can give
priority to the most urgent cases. Our reception team will request details to
pass on to the doctor.
Please refrain from requesting a home visit unless absolutely necessary.
This is to reduce the impact on other patients.
Telephone Appointments
Our GPs are allocated time slots throughout the week for telephone
appointments. Please speak with reception if you require an appointment with
a specific doctor.
Online Services
Patients can book / cancel GP appointments online and also request repeat
prescriptions using the EMIS Access Service.
By providing this service we hope to make booking a GP appointment more
convenient, particularly, but not exclusively, for those patients who cannot
telephone the practice during normal working hours.
We hope that by patients booking online, it will free up telephone time for
those patients who prefer to continue to use the telephone to book their
appointments.
If you are interested in these online services, please contact our reception
staff who will advise you how to register for the services.
Repeat Prescriptions Patients on long-term medication may obtain repeat prescriptions without
seeing the doctor. These prescriptions are held on computer, which helps us
supply the prescription rapidly and keep accurate records.
Repeat prescriptions can be obtained by bringing the request slip (which is
attached to your previous prescription) into the surgery or posting it. We are
happy to post your prescription back to you if you enclose a stamped
addressed envelope. Alternatively you can make your request online – Please
see our ‘Online Services’ Section.
Please allow 48 hours between ordering and collection (not including
weekends).
Please ensure that request slips are clearly marked where indicated.
Your medication will be reviewed at regular intervals.

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
This service enables your doctor to send your prescriptions electronically to a
nominated pharmacy of your choice .This makes the prescribing and
dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients.
If you wish to use this service please speak to staff at your chosen pharmacy,
or reception staff.
Family Planning
Routine family planning services (e.g. advice, ‘pill’ prescriptions) can be
obtained during normal surgery hours by appointment. Coil fitting &
contraceptive implant services are also available - please enquire at reception.
Maternity Services Full maternity services are provided in conjunction with local hospitals and
community midwives. Antenatal clinics are held by the local midwives on a
weekly basis at both Lower Green & Wood Road, please contact surgery for
appointment details.
The practice currently offers Child Health Surveillance on a Thursday at
Lower Green Surgery.
Test Results
Results of investigations will not normally be given to any other person than the patient concerned, this being for the welfare of the patients.
If helps us if you telephone for results after 10.30am but preferably in the afternoon before 4.00pm.
We are happy to give advice over the telephone. However if you need to speak to your doctor it may be necessary to telephone back at a more convenient time
Community Phlebotomy Walk-in Service Please be aware that in addition to the phlebotomy (blood sample) service
provided by Tettenhall Medical Practice, our patients also have access to a
local Phlebotomy service held at a variety of clinics - please ask at reception
for details
Practice Area The area covered by the practice includes Tettenhall, Tettenhall Wood,
Wightwick, Compton, Newbridge, Claregate, The Wergs, Aldersley, part-
Finchfield, and part -Whitmore Reans. There is a copy of the map of the
practice area in reception.
Please inform the surgery of any change of address or contact numbers.
Appointment Reminder Service The practice will remind you of any appointments via text message. For more
information please speak with reception.
Patient Participation Group (PPG) Our practice has a PPG (Patient Participation Group) which provides a
connection between the practice and patients, allowing a forum for open
constructive discussion and analysis of service provision as well as offering an
alternative perspective on many topics relevant to general practice.
The PPG hold regular meetings and also display information regarding the
purpose and progress on the group at both surgeries, on the designated notice
boards.
Out of Hours / Emergency Care

Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe chest
pain, loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest accident and
emergency department or call 999.

The Urgent Care Centre is based at New Cross hospital on the 1st floor above the Emergency Department
Out of Hours Service
If you need to see a doctor urgently between 6.30pm & 8.00am Monday to Friday or at any time over a weekend or a Bank Holiday when the surgery is closed please telephone 111.
Calls to the NHS 111 service are free from both landlines and mobiles.
Alternatively view the NHS 111 website at www.111.nhs.uk which offers free expert, up to date health information and advice 24 hours a day
For those patients who have difficulties communicating or hearing you can:

Unity Hub - Extended Access Service
We are a member of the Unity Hub which enables us to offer extended access
to appointments for our patients outside of our surgery hours.

NHS Walk in Centre
The nearest NHS Walk In Centre is
Phoenix Centre, Parkfield Road, Parkfields, Wolverhampton. WV4 6ED
The Phoenix Centre is open between 8.00am - 8.00pm, seven days a week,
365 days a year.
The Walk In Centre, based at Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton, is usually
managed by a team of nurse practitioners , it is designed to offer convenient
access to a range of treatments for minor illnesses, aliments and
injuries, offers on-the-spot treatment (without an appointment) .
You are able to ‘walk in’ during the centre’s opening hours, there is no need to
notify the centre you will be attending.
Comments or Suggestions
Our aim is to provide a high quality service to all our patients by providing
effective and efficient primary health care to the best benefit of our patients.
We are very interested in hearing any constructive comments you may have.
Complaints We try to offer you the best service we can at all times. There may be
occasions when you feel this has not happened.
We like to handle complaints ourselves since most arise from
misunderstandings. It is best for all concerned to put things right as quickly as
possible.
If you have a concern or wish to make a complaint, please speak to the
Practice Manager. We will listen to your complaint and discuss with you how
best to resolve it.
Data Protection
We need to keep personal information so that you can receive appropriate
health care and treatment. This information is only passed to other people or
organisations if it is in your interest. For example:
If you are receiving care from other people (such as social services) as well as
from the NHS we may all need to share information so that we can work
together for your benefit.
It has to be passed on by law such as to notify the birth of a baby.
Your relatives, carers or friends should be kept up to date with the progress
of your treatment – but only with your consent.
However, information about you is only passed on if there is a genuine need
and is in yours and everyone’s interest to do so. Whenever possible all details
which identify you are deleted.
Everyone working with the NHS has a legal duty to keep information about
you confidential. Anyone who receives information about you from the NHS
also has a legal duty to keep it confidential.
The NHS does not use personal information for direct marketing purposes.
You Can Help Us By:
Coming to your appointment on time but not too early .
Letting us know in good time if you are unable to keep your appointment.
Respecting others rights by being courteous to all staff.
Respecting the practice and its staff.
Cooperating in your medical care by keeping to the agreed treatment plan.
Letting us know when you change your name, address or contact numbers.
Only requesting a home visit when it is really necessary, when a patient is
too ill or immobile to get to surgery.
Only requesting a home visit before 10am, so that we can plan the day
efficiently. Emergencies are seen whenever they occur, but otherwise
visits requested after 10.00am are left until he next day.
Using the our of hours services responsibly, remembering that it is for
genuine emergencies only. It is not for social convenience.
