To whom that believes in cultural pluralism, acceptance and freedom: We are requesting your support today on the behalf of mending a grave concern at the University of Virginia. That concern being the lack of a multicultural initiative to ally the ever marginalized cultural groups and diminish organized group boundaries. We plan to remedy this disparity and respond to the needs of the diverse student body at the University by forming FUSION, an umbrella multicultural organization that will aim to promote an inclusive and diversely aware environment by acting as an educational resource that prepares students to succeed in a heterogeneous and globalized society. The organization will strengthen and enhance the richly diverse fabric of the UVA community by supporting established cultural organizations and providing programs in the following areas: Diversity Education & Training, Inter/Intra Cultural Programming, Leadership Development and Training, a Multicultural Leadership Council, and “The Fuze” a Multicultural publication. FUSION will seek to establish and maintain a supportive relationship with the Office of the Dean of Student’s Multicultural Student Services, and with cultural, ethnic, and affinity student organizations on Grounds. We will also work to create a greater sense of unity for students at the University by advancing student learning through programs and experiences that integrates self-awareness, multicultural and intercultural communication skills and education. Some of these programs may include: lecture series, diversity or leadership workshops, multicultural talent showcases/fashion shows, student/faculty mixers, arts & activism series, days of dialogue, etc. Our main goal is to create community advancement with respect to acknowledgement, understanding, and celebration of groups’ similarities and differences. We cannot fully achieve these goals without the help of you, our constituent. Likewise, your affinity cannot reach its full potential of spreading cultural awareness and reaching a diverse audience without the support of an umbrella

FUSION will engage you and your membership in cross-cultural programs with other cultural organizations as well as advertise your individual projects and meetings. We ask that you sign the second sheet and agree to be a participating constituent of our intercultural community. As a constituent, you will have access to all of our programs and resources and have the option to participate at your discretion. We also want to support you by advertising your programs or events on our newsletter “The Fuze”. In addition (yes, there is still more), the president of your organization will have the premiere opportunity to be a member of the Multicultural Leadership Council (MLC) alongside officers from other cultural groups on Grounds. As a member of MLC you will be able to share ideas about promoting cross-cultural interaction and more! By signing the attached form, you are making a stand for pluralism and acceptance of cultures at the University of Virginia. You will become a partner in spreading awareness and appreciation not only for your own culture, but in the name of culture. We hope that your organization will jump on board!
