Unit 2Test Reading

The Largest Flower in the World

The Rafflesia is the largest flower in the world. This rare plant is found in the forests of Southeast Asia. The Rafflesia has five giant petals, and can grow up to one meter wide!

The Rafflesia’s size is not the only thing that makes it special. The flower has a very strong smell, a bit like the smell of rotting meat. The strong smell brings flies and other insects. They help spread the flower’s pollen.

Even though it has a giant flower, the Rafflesia doesn’t have roots or leaves. It is a parasitic plant—it lives off other plants.
