CHARACTERISTICS

UPPER RIVER

It is the section of the river closest to its source.There is little water but it runs very quickly.The strong current picks up a lot of stones and sand.

MIDDLE RIVER

The river is much bigger...in its middle section.There is more water because other rivers called tributaries join.The current is slower and the river forms big curves called meanders.

LOWER RIVER

It is the final section ... of the river.There is a lot of water and the current is very slow.The end of the river is called its mouth.
