LEMO RUGGEDISED PUSH-PULL CONNECTORS

PUSH – PULL SELF LATCHING SYSTEM

MODULAR CONSTRUCTION

MODULAR CONSTRUCTION -Allows the user to choose the rightconfiguration to suit the application

WIDE RANGE OF CONTACTTYPES - Low voltage, coaxial, thermocouple, fibre optic, highvoltage & hybrids

Where a secure, quality connectionis required, LEMO are able to offer a solution to suit nearly allapplications.

EXTENSIVE PRODUCT RANGE -Connectors styles available to suitalmost any application

SECURE CONNECTION - Secure mechanism providessecurity against vibration, shockor cable pull

SPACE SAVINGS - Spacing between sockets and reduced PCB lengths allowconsiderable space savings overtraditional MIL SPEC connectors

FULL EMC PROTECTION -Full metal shell and earthing crownprovide for 360º shielding

HIGH RELIABILITY - Latchingmechanism provides maximumretention force when mated toprevent accidental disconnect andcontact design ensures minimaleffect on the contact resistancedue to wear.

The LEMO self latching system allows the connector to be matedby simply pushing the plug axially into socket.

Once firmly latched, connection cannot be broken by pulling on thecable or any other component part other than the outerrelease sleeve.

When required, the connector is disengaged by a single axial pullon the outer release sleeve. This first disengages the latches andthen withdraws the plug from the socket.

The latching system on thesesharsh environment connectors is quickand easy to mate, providinga safe and secure connection.

The quick release mechanism is standard.

A snatch release option alsoavailable where required.

The modular construction usesCOTS components making it easyto select just the right configurationsfor the ideal connector for eachspecific application.A very wide range of housings andcontact types (including coaxial, triaxial, multipole, high voltage andfibre optics as well as hybrids of allthese) provides an enormous range ofpotential options at competitive prices.

F SERIESOriginally designed for the highlydemanding environment of themotorsport industry, F seriesconnectors have been increasinglyused within test and measurementapplications due to the weight andspace savings that the series offers. These features combined withexcellent vibration and sealingcapabilities make the connectorideal within harsh environments.

F series connectors have beendesigned to meet demandingrequirements in terms of dimensions,weight and watertightness. Theseries now includes for 7 nominalsizes and provides customers withfeatures including;

Push pull latching self latchingsystem for safe connectionSealed to IP67 for environmentalprotection when matedCompact scoop proof designHigh shock and vibrationresistance

Crimp or solder contact, straightand elbowMultipole types with 2 to 66contacts, multi fibre optic ormixed fibre optic + LVKeyed to ease blind matingColour coded options forsystem security

Example:FGS FF 304 Y L Mis a miniature (6mm diameter) plugconnector directly mounted intospeed sensors on F1 cars.

FIBRE OPTICThe growth of fibre optics within allindustries has lead to a need forreliable, rugged connection systems. The LEMO range of fibre opticconnectors is designed around theB and K series connectors however, fibre options are also available withinthe F series connector range. Thisallows standard components to beused in a majority of applications.

The LEMO fibre optic connectorrange is suitable for single modeand multi mode fibres. The fibreferrules used are capable ofhandling single mode 9/125 fibre upto 1500µm polymer fibre. The use ofceramic ferrules and ceramicalignment sleeves ensures thatalignment of the fibre is alwaysaccurate, essential with smalldiameter single mode fibres.

The use of rugged outer shellscombined with accurate alignmentmeans that typical insertion lossesare 0.10dB and 0.25 dB for singlemode and multi mode respectively.

New developments for LEMO fibreoptic ferrules include Angle PolishedContacts. Angle Polished Contactsnow provide excellent insertion lossfigures combined with improvedreturn loss. Where return loss caneffect or damage the source device,APC technology will eliminate thatrisk by reducing the amount ofpotential light reflected back up the fibre.

CABLE ASSEMBLYLEMO UK has its own connectortermination facilities for both electrical andfibre optic assemblies with fully trainedtechnicians and we pride ourselves on thequality of terminations provided.

The best connectors and cables are oflittle use if failures occur due to dry solderjoints, poor crimping, or insufficient fixingof cable jacketing.

Fibre optic terminations require properselection and fixing of ferrules on thefibre, followed by the correct polishingprocess, whether by hand or machinepolished, in order to ensure optimumoptical performance.

At LEMO every cable assembly is fullyinspected to ensure it meets the required standard.

Each electrical connector is fully tested forpin-pin continuity, as well having a highvoltage test to ensure that there are nopotential breakdown problems.

All fibre optic terminations are subjected toinsertion loss and back reflection tests asrequired to ensure the highest quality ofsignal transmission, with test resultsreordered for every cable.

TECHNICAL SUPPORTOne of the significant advantages of LEMOconnectors is the modular constructioncombined with the full extent of the rangeitself. This means that there is nearly alwaysa solution to suit a specific application fromthe wide choice.

Where an immediate solution cannot beidentified, the requirements can be achievedthrough simple modifications, sometimesaffecting only a single component.

Our team of Field Sales engineers arebased throughout the UK and areresponsible for providing product andtechnical information in order to enable thecustomer to select the connection solutionbest suited to the application available

Once a suitable connector has beenselected, sample can be supplied for use in prototypes allowing the customerthe ability to confirm the selection ofcorrect connector.

If specialised connectors are required thenthe enquiry is incorporated into the LEMOproject management system.

The development request is handled eitherby the LEMO UK design team or withinLEMO group projects if it has implicationson the existing range.

All special connector and cable assemblyorder items are fully prepared on our CAD system and the resulting drawing is agreed with the customer prior to anywork commencing, so that we ensure that the customer is getting exactly whatthey require.
