Gardener, Heidi’s Lifestyle Gardens, Plymouth, MN (May 2011 - November 2011)As an employee at Heidi’s, I performed a detailed survey of a large residential property, identifying and recording nearly 300 perennial plant species. I used this information to render a plan in AutoCAD and Photoshop. The rendered master plan was submitted for consideration for the 2012 MNLA residential design awards. In addition to this design project, I collaborated in the creation and maintenance of sustainable gardens for residential, estate, and commercial clients.Estate Gardener, Gem Lake, MN (May – August 2010)On an 18 acre estate in Gem Lake, my job was to manage and improve the wildly overgrown landscape, consisting of 9 perennial gardens. After thorough site assessment which included species identification and design interpretation, I developed a two month maintenance plan for gardens.Intern, Chalet Landscaping, North Chicago, IL (May – August 2008)During my internship with Chalet I was given the opportunity to learn and experience every aspect of a high end design build company. I met with clients, prepared site surveys, helped create hand rendered designs, worked on site with the crew to implement designs, allowing me to stay directly involved with projects from inception to long term maintenance. I also performed as a sales representative in the nursery, selected plants from other local nursery providers to for projects and spent time on Chalet’s farm studying drainage and erosion issues. Intern, Melrose Design Group P.A., Asheville, NC (summer 2006)My experiences as an intern with an award-winning landscape design/land planning firm included large scale site plan-ning, AutoCAD work, meetings with clients, engineers and building officials, and extensive site visits in the mountains.Coach and Counselor New Hope Park and Recreation Department (2004-07)As a coach for children ages 4-6, I would prepare practice games and routines to help teach them the techniques of 5 different sports: baseball, football, basketball, soccer and frisbee. Most of the children had never played an organized sport which was a hard but rewarding challenge for me to figure out. From this experience I learned how to manage large groups of individuals while understanding their strengths and weaknesses and how that affects the whole.

I thrive on the idea that as a landscape architect, I work to not only restore the beauty of a space, but to also bring together different groups such as science, engineering, and the community. This collaboration is an act that impacts more than just the exterior shell of a dwelling and its inhabitants, but the entire ecosystem that surrounds an area.
I am a recent graduate from Iowa State University with a double major in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Studies.
Throughout my studies and previous jobs, I have had the privilege to travel ex-tensively abroad and within the United States. Having a diverse background has strengthened me as an individual and a designer allowing me to be more cre-ative by connecting the experiences I’ve had while synthesizing new opportunities.

Designers: Student Society of Landscape Architecture
Contractors: Country Landscapes
Location: The Greek Triangle median between Sunset Drive and
Pearson Avenue, Ames, Iowa
Duration of project: Fall 2010 – Spring 2011
The Greek Triangle project symbolizes the Greek Com-
munity’s commitment to strengthen its relations in the
surrounding community, inspire future recruitment growth,
and change the culture of the existing neighborhood. It is
at the geographic heart of the Iowa State Greek Commu-
nity which is an important focal point for Greek Activities.
As lead designer and project manager of this
project, I met with Ames City Officials to sketch ideas and
general designs. My design team would then meet to
generate plans that we presented to the City Officials and
ISU Greek Affairs. Once the design was decided upon,
I generated a timeline, cost estimation of materials and
labor and an AutoCAD illustration which was then used
by Country Landscape’s contractors to construct the park.

Fall 2010 – Spring 2011
As President of SSLA in 2011, I lead a team of stu-
dents who showcased their knowledge and commit-
ment to green technology by building this display for
Iowa State’s annual spring celebration, VEISHEA.
The successful completion of this project involved
team management, organization, acquisition of
materials, construction implementation and marketing.
By working directly with three different companies and
the ISU Horticulture Department, this project embod-
ied the concept of collaboration to achieve a shared goal.
Living-on projects: The 2” sedums and trays
were donated to the Horticulture department.
The 4” sedums were donated to CyRide and ISU
Campus Facilities and Management and are cur-
rently placed on top of a bus stop in front of
the College of Design at Iowa State University.

Designer: Jessica Teskey
Construction: Chuck from Rivers North
Planting: Jessica Teskey
Location: Private Residence on Birch Island Lake,
Burnett County, Wisconsin.
Project Date of completion: Summer 2011
This private residential design project focuses on best
management practices to help mitigate erosion and
excessive runoff. I worked directly with the residents
and the local County Conservation Director to ensure
satisfaction on a private and an ecological level. The
design combines rain gardens, native buffer strips,
and outdoor livable space for all ages, controlled ac-
cess points to the lake, and a rip rap boulder wall.
There will be more projects happening on this site. There
is a proposal of a rain garden and a patio area with a pergola
(images to the left). Construction is due this summer, 2012.

Designer: Jessica TeskeyLocation: Piazza Venezia, Rome, ItalyProject date: 2009Software used: Sketchup, Photoshop, AutoCAD
Piazza Venezia is one of many locations through which the underground subway will travel. This site is the geo-graphic center of Rome and has the highest density of ve-hicular and pedestrian traffic. Roman ruins, medieval ac-cretions, Renaissance additions, and parts of the Jewish Ghetto make up the site. A conscious effort to preserve these historical moments while integrat-ing them with present day technology is a key element for the subway entrance design.
Connected to the main transportation hub in the city through subway lines, Piazza Venezia will act as a centralized space for pedestrians to utilize the underground transportation. The large spiraling staircase acts as an artful installation and a functional way for pedestrians to enter the subway station and use it’s many levels of different public activities.
Our studio met with city officials, archeologists, and contractors to better understand the complexity of the overall site. This design helps to combine the ex-isting circulation patterns, introduces easy-to-use subway entrances and a spiraling earthwork installation.

Company: Heidi’s Lifestyle Gardens
Location: Gleason Lake, Plymouth, MN
Project date: Fall 2011
Heidi’s Lifestyle Gardens does not use graphics to
illustrate a design, however, it was my privilege to do the
first large scale survey and design on the owner’s house.
The project entailed general surveying, AutoCAD illus-
tration, Photoshop rendering and plant species identifica-
tion of roughly 300 plants.
After completion, this plan was then submitted for
consideration of the MNLA 2012 Landscape awards:
Garden Design.
