Terrific Tuesday! 14/7/20
Dear Parent/Carer,
The Nursery team hope that you and your children are safe and well. Here are some ideas and
suggestions for a great day with your child. Choose your favourite 3 or do more and if you can,
take some photos to share.
Over the week we will be reviewing stories your child has learnt throughout the year. See what they
can remember about any of the stories before reading/watching them and completing activities.
Story of the Day!
● Little Red Riding Hood (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDMWJCrDVMI)
Match the animal sounds! ( 10-15 minutes max)
● Visit the phonics play website and play the game ‘Sound
Starters.’’
● https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/1/sound-starters
● Explore pressing the different buttons to hear all the different
sounds. Talk about what the different sounds are and what it is
that could make that sound.
● What sound did you hear? What do you think made that sound?
● Can you make some other strange sounds!
Wake and Shake! (Suggested time 10 minutes max)
● Watch the link for Fairy Tale Fitness- Little Red Riding Hood..
● Follow along with the actions and use the time to sit calmly and
quietly.
● Can you copy the actions?
● Can you use all your body? What moves can you do?
● What was your favourite move?
● Should we talk to strangers?
Draw a map! (Suggested time 15 minutes)
● Let’s make a map to help Little Red Riding Hood get to Grandma’s
house safely.
● Support your child to draw the map or use coloured paper to
make pictures for your map.
● Start with Little Red Riding Hood house and make a path.
● What might she see along the way? Trees, flowers or the Big Bad
Wolf?
● Remember to make Grandma’s house as well.
● Can you get an adult to help you label the different parts of your
map?
● Maybe you could then try making a map for someone in the family such as how to get from the
bedroom to the kitchen or from your house to the park.
Maths (Suggested time 15 minutes)
● Let’s practise some counting.
● Support your child to look at the pictures of characters/objects from the’ Little Red Riding
Hood’ story.
● Count how many of each object there are and then try writing the correct number the circle
provided.
● How many objects can you count? Which object is there 4 of? How many Little Red Riding
Hood’s are there?
Snack/Lunch (15 minutes)
● Little Red Riding Hood is taking some cupcakes to Grandma.
● With an adult, make some cupcakes to give to family members.
● Follow the recipe from
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/587/easy-kids-cupcakes.aspx
● You will need:
● 70g (6 oz) butter or margarine, 170g (6 oz) sugar, 3 eggs, 170g (6
oz) self-raising flour.
● With an adult follow the instructions and carefully bake in the over
following the recipe.
● When cooked and cooled, decorate with your favorite decorations.
● If you have a basket, fill it with the cupcakes and deliver them to family
members like Little Red Riding Hood.
Playtime
● Go on a family walk with grownups and see if you can
explore an area like the forest that Little Red Riding
Hood walked through to get to Grandma’s house.
● If there is no forest area, find some trees in a park
and pretend it is a forest.
● What can you see on your walk? Are there any trees
or flowers?
● Pretend you are going somewhere. Where are you
going?
● You could even dress up as a character from the story.
● Are you bringing anything with you?
● Are there any strangers on your walk?
● Talk with an adult about what a stranger is; someone
we do not know and should not talk to without a
familiar adult.
Topic Activity! (15 minutes)
● Little Red Riding Hood is going to visit her Grandma.
● Maybe you haven’t seen your grandparents or other family
members in a while.
● Support your child to try writing a letter to another family
member that does not live with you. You could talk about what you
have been doing at home? If you have learnt to do anything
new?If you have gone back to school?
● You could also take some photos of what you have been doing
and encourage your child to try labeling the pictures.
Storytime
● Watch the story of Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion on
YouTube.
● This is a twist on the original fairy tale.
● Watch the story and talk about the characters and what happens
in the story.
● Is it the same or different to the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ story
that you know?
