There’s a furniture maker in the south of Sweden

named Nirvan Richter whom we particularly admire.

His style is clean and effortless and we like his

sense of ethics just as much as his sense for color

and form. He said something once that has been

particularly useful to us at Teroforma over the past

year and a half. He said, “a slower pace in life is

about accepting everything: who you are, what

you feel. Learning to give up your dreams, creates

the peace to see them through.” When we first

heard those words, especially from someone whose

creativity and humanity we greatly admire, they

were incomprehensible to us. At the time, we were

starting our own business and pursuing our dream.

How can you ever let go of your vision? How can you

accept things as they are when by definition you are

trying to change them? The answer is that sometimes

you have no choice. Sometimes circumstances force

you to consider that, perhaps, the things you have

worked for and built may not be yours to keep.

While we have been lucky to keep what we have

worked for and built, and even luckier to see it grow,

we have also seen enough recently to understand the

alternative. And what we have learned for ourselves

is what our favorite Swedish furniture maker left

poignantly unsaid: the things you find a way to give

up in pursuit of your dreams are the things you didn’t

really need in the first place. The distractions, the

wrong turns, the noise. So, in our own small way we

have taken our new-found wisdom to heart, clearing

away the unnecessary and rediscovering the beauty

in simplicity. And as you will see, we have been

busy. Our new creations reflect some exciting new

directions, many of which may seem both fresh and

familiar all at once. And perhaps that is why we felt

it was OK to stop, to put our pens down for now and

to take stock of what we have created for this season:

the feeling that we had reached a point of balance

and that somehow none of it could have happened

any other way.

Here’s what we know (right now)

Made by Teroforma with designer Leah Duncan (Texas), Åry Trays (Sweden) and Nandini Fabrics (India)

Austin, Texas-based graphic artist Leah Duncan’s Wildflowers & Powerlines is the inaugural pattern in Teroforma’s newly launched Artists’ Canvas Collection, where an artist’s vision is brought to life in a small selection of our products available just for the season. Leah’s work for Teroforma explores the intersection between the manmade and the organic by challenging the roles that each plays in the definition of beauty in an urban landscape. Inspired as much by the haphazard geometry of broken glass on the side of the highway as by Ladybird Johnson’s famous central Texas bluebonnets, Wildflowers & Powerlines mixes visual metaphors and hidden elements intended to foster a more personal connection between owner and object.

Avva Bowls & Boards

Handcrafted Vitreous Stoneware, Beechwood

Made by Teroforma with designer Louisa Taylor (London) and Cerâmica

Artística Vale do Neiva (Portugal)

Avva Pinch&Pour™ Bowls – A small pitcher and a small bowl – they stack in virtually any configuration and are “the perfect size” for any number of spices, herbs, condiments, sauces, syrups and

dressings. They even accommodate a large tea light to become an impromptu

votive. Whether on the table or by the stove, we have a sneaking suspicion they will become indispensable wherever you

put them. Available in a range of soft neutrals in sets of 2 or a gift set of 4.

Avva Large Bowl&Board™ – One large stoneware serving bowl (perfect for salad) and one large cutting board

with varied lateral grooves to catch crumbs (perfect for bread). Alone, they are pleasing and beautiful objects, but

together they are more than the sum of their parts. The natural beech wood

board works as a lid for the bowl, so they can be stored together or keep last

night’s leftovers fresh in the fridge for just a little while longer.

Handcrafted Beechwood, Maplewood, and Cherrywood

Made by Teroforma with designer Thea Mehl (Oslo), Drevotvar (Czech Republic), Bill Baumgartel (Pennsylvania) and J.K. Adams (Vermont)

Avva S+P Mills – Using the Avva shape like building blocks, Olso-based designer Thea Mehl sought to design pieces that would sit firmly and compactly in the hand, and be visually subtle so they could remain on the table at all times. Set of 2 mills with ceramic grinders for salt, pepper and spices.

Avva Serving Boards – The signature complementary angles of the Avva series allow these varied size serving boards to store compactly or to work in concert to create a larger serving area when snugly fit together on the table. Sold separately, these highly durable, Northeastern US maplewood boards are easily cared for.

Loft Tools – Working with Pennsylvania-based master woodcarver Bill Baumgartel, industrial designer Thea Mehl took inspiration from her childhood, when she watched her grandfather build model airplanes in his attic workshop, to craft these propeller-shaped spreaders, pickers and spoons. In a nod to her creative lineage, Loft means “attic” in Norwegian.

The small bowl is perfect for olives or nuts, the medium bowl is just right for salsa or dip and the large bowl is exactly the right height for breadsticks or carrot spears. The scalloped underside of the natural beech wood lid doubles as a shallow bowl: a perfect home for your toothpicks and cocktail forks on the table or for storing leftovers overnight in the fridge.

Ekke Tapas Plates - A simple set of 4 stoneware plates designed to be just the right size for a classic “small plates” portion. Great for hors d’ouevres or cocktail nosh. The plates stack for easy storage. A perfect accompaniment to the Ekke Tapas Bowls + Lid.

Handcrafted Vitreous Stoneware, Mouthblown Non-lead Crystal, Cork

Made by Teroforma with designer Roman Vrtiška (Prague), Cerâmica Artística

Vale do Neiva (Portugal) and Rogaška Glassworks (Slovenia)

Ekke Carafe + Stopper – Why can’t a carafe also be a thermos, a shaker, or a chiller? Ours can. The clean, industrial style of our Ekke shape series was the

perfect choice for this simple stoneware carafe and its plain cork stopper. The

special thermal properties of stoneware let hot drinks stay hot longer, and cold drinks stay colder. The stopper allows

you to shake the contents without fear of springing a leak.

Ekke Small Tumbler – Simple is best. The mouthblown non-lead crystal Ekke

tumblers are just that - simple. The clean and sober lines lend themselves to

stacking and easy storage, even if their perfect-for-vodka shape means that you,

ahem, are not.

Mouthblown Non-lead Crystal, Beechwood

Made by Teroforma with designer Thea Mehl (Oslo), and Rogaška Glassworks (Slovenia)

Avva Carafe + Stopper – Mouthblown non-lead crystal carafe with beech wood stopper. The Avva Carafe echoes the Avva series’ focus on complementary angles and is the perfect addition to our Avva Tumblers and Whisk(e)y Lover (see p16). Beech wood stopper doubles as a small bowl for drink garnishes, ice or whisky stones and is shaped to accommodate and store an inverted Avva Tumbler when not in use.

Avva Small Tumbler – Neither too large for the purpose, nor too dainty for frequent use, the Avva Tumblers were designed to aid in the “real life” enjoyment of your favorite spirits. Made entirely by hand, the ST1 and ST2 tumblers are mouthblown from non-lead crystal and are dishwasher safe. The perfectly complementary angles of the tumblers attest to the skill of their makers - and may also help remind you which is yours as the night wears on...

Whisky Stones™

Soapstone

Made by Teroforma with company co-founder Andrew Hellman (Connecticut) and Vermont Soapstone (Vermont)

How do you chill your favorite spirits just a touch without diluting their perfectly balanced flavors? Teroforma’s Whisky Stones are made in Vermont from natural soapstone, by craftsmen of some of the oldest soapstone workshops in the United States. The stones are non-porous, and will impart neither flavor nor odor. More gentle than ice, Whisky Stones can be used to cool down your favorite spirits just enough to take the edge off without “closing down” the flavors.

Issi Decanter – The tapering gauge of the neck of the decanter has been designed to aerate wine as it’s decanted. Each mouthblown non-lead crystal piece is discretely signed by designer Tihomir Tomic.

Issi Cruets – An evolution of the Issi Wine Decanter, this set of mouthblown non-lead crystal cruets comes with a set of fitted stoppers, the better to keep your finest olio and balsamico.

Mouthblown Non-lead Crystal

Made by Teroforma with designer Tihomir Tomic (Zagreb) and Rogaška

Glassworks (Slovenia)

Our series of wines stems and champagne flutes focuses on simplicity and quality

craftsmanship, delivering glasses which are perfectly suited for complex (R1),

balanced (R2) or bold (R3) reds; whites with lower acidity (W1) or higher acidity (W2); and those who wish to accentuate

the dry (C1) or sweet (C2) character of champagne. Each glass features a single-

pull stem and is crafted by hand.

The Brandy Glass, The Martini Glass and The Martini Pitcher are all essential

elements of the sophisticated bar. Drawn from a careful examination of

classic shapes, each piece is a statement in craftsmanship that speaks to those who

know the deep pleasure of sitting back, twirling the perfect glass between their

fingers and contemplating the day’s victories.

The intuitive beauty of a simple shape

is something we can all appreciate

in our own way. The Teroforma

product range is based on a system

of inter-related shapes that we make

in a variety of materials and within

a single, cohesive color palette. Our

goal is to offer you the tools you need

to create your own style without

having to wonder if the objects will

complement one another. The answer

is always “yes they will” because we

made sure to design them that way.

In fact, it is the only rule we ever give

our designers: “every new object

we create must convey a sense of

individuality while also acknowleding

its connection to the wider family of

Teroforma products.” And when

you gather our products together,

whether all from one shape series

or from several, a sense of family

is unmistakable. We will continue

to build our shape series with new

products, materials and functions so

that you can continue to sprinkle in

our very latest creations alongside

your old favorites.

AVVAAcute and obtuse angles, geometric legs,

positive and negative space are all plainly in view.

EKKESimple and uncomplicated, industrial infeel and appearance, functionality is at

the forefront.

OYYOAlternating circular and elliptical shapes

create symmetry and natural harmony.

ISSITransitional curves and asymmetry convey

a sense of motion within a static object.

Emotions can be stirred by the simplest of shapes

Oyyo White

Handcrafted Bone China

Made by Teroforma with designer Thomas Allen (London) and Asianera Studio (Northern China)

The Oyyo White series in handcrafted bone china is a study in balance and understatement. As the foundation for the entire Oyyo range of objects, we gave extra careful consideration to perfecting the minute details: the curve on each bowl, the slightly tapered rim of each plate, the perfect balance of body, spout and handle in the tea pot. As is the mark of highest quality bone china, pieces will evidence translucence when held up to the light. Complements pieces from the Oyyo Petal range.

Oyyo Petal

Handpainted Bone China

Made by Teroforma with designer Thomas Allen (London), designer Maria

Lintott (Hertford) and Asianera Studio (Northern China)

Maria Lintott’s Petal pattern says a lot without saying too much. When you start

with the brilliant white of beautifully crafted bone china and the understated

elegance of the Oyyo shape, there is very little else you need. Inspired by a

day spent in Kew Gardens, Maria used a graphical layering technique to create

her pattern - an effect which has been faithfully re-created using a proprietary

hand-sponging technique developed exclusively for Teroforma by the crafts-

men and women at Asianera Studio. But don’t get distracted by the technicalities,

Petal offers just the right hand-painted accent here and there using a palette of

colors that complement tones and hues in other pieces.

Made by Teroforma with company co-founder Anna Hellman (Connecticut)

and Linas (Lithuania)

Pure Linen Napkins & Runners – Made solely of highest quality, European long

fiber flax, our Pure Linen is densely woven to the standards of the European Masters of Linen guild by Linas in Lithuania. Our

linens are mechanically conditioned, avoiding the unnecessary use of harmful chemicals. Large napkins (lap-sized and

then some) and cross runners (perfect contemporary placemat substitute) are

available in 4 core neutral tones and 6 seasonal accents. As with all linen,

retains its strength while softening with regular use.

Blended Linen Napkins & Runners – Made solely from a blend of pure long

same standard as our Pure Linens, these large napkins and cross runners convey a

slightly more causal style by mixing in a natural tone to the otherwise rich colors.

Cottage Linen Placemat – An elegantly loose weave of yarn-thick thread, our Cottage Linen has the perfect casual

presence to serve as a backdrop to bone china or simple stoneware alike. Pair it

The beauty is in the process We live in a time marked by the convergence of high-volume mechanical production and rapid micro-technological advancement. It is a time of amazing possibility, but also a time that demands a balancing emphasis on the wisdom of basic form and simple function. Too often, machines replace rather than assist those who have created them; and in this we find the temptation to delight in what is newly possible without considering what is also advisable. Tempering the speed of our minds with the pace of skilled hands has become a human imperative in an interconnected world. Teroforma works with designers, artists and craftsmen across the globe who understand these truths to create objects which embody these ideals. We focus on the quality and integrity of the creative process and the people involved knowing that only then can the finished product ever be considered truly beautiful.

Aprons & Towels

European Long-fiber Flax Linen, Pure Cotton

Apron – Our simple apron is a direct result of our frustration with the “kiss the cook” approach. Made from a stylish Blended Linen that conveys a sense of casual sophistication, our apron has a clever channel for the neck loop and ties that allow you to adjust for almost any size. A utility pocket and towel loop in the front mean that you will look every inch the stylish pro as you orbit effortlessly between pots in the kitchen and guests in the living room.

HandsDishesCrumbs™ Towels – Generally speaking, when one object is asked to do too many different jobs, it will do none of them well. The kitchen towel is no exception. HandsDishesCrumbs™ is our answer – a system of three towels made of natural fabrics that combine the simple functionality of the right material and the right weave for the right purpose. Hands is a linen/cotton mix with a waffle weave that rids liquid from hands while also soaking it up; Dishes’ tightly woven pure linen is highly absorbent; Crumbs’ loose weave linen traps crumbs and resists wear and tear over time. Each comes with a tag that declares its purpose to help remind you that, finally, one towel doesn’t have to do it all.

Arbor Coasters & Trivets

100% Wool Felt

Made by Teroforma with designer Anna Dabrowski (Berlin) and Buffalo

Felt (New York)

Inspired by the colors and shapes of the foliage in Berlin’s famous Tiergarten,

designer Anna Dabrowski has created a clever series of 100% wool felt coasters

and trivets that pop in any season and are at home in any home. The lyrical stem detail cutout in the coaster allows it to

do double-duty as a napkin ring. Made of 100% natural wool felt, each design

is available in a range of 8 double-sided, tonal color combinations. While the

natural density of felt makes it relatively durable, spills should be wiped

away quickly.

Avva Breadbaskets Tarn Coasters, Trivets & Mats

100% Wool Felt

Made by Teroforma with designer Josh Jakus (California), designer Thea Mehl (Oslo) and Buffalo Felt (New York)

Avva Breadbaskets - The Avva Breadbasket is a playfully interactive object created by designer Josh Jakus to ship flat and then quickly “constructed” by inserting two tabs into slots. The thickness and friction of the felt keeps the assembled piece upright, even when the front is opened for easy access to the toasty bread inside. When the meal is done, you can either store it flat or leave it assembled and decorative.

Tarn Coasters, Trivets & Mats - Inspired by the haphazardly formed puddles following an Autumn rainstorm, designer Thea Mehl has created this series of irregularly-shaped Tarn coasters, trivets and mats to bring just a touch of asymmetry to the order and balance of the table. Made of 100% natural wool felt, each design is available in three seasonal colors. While the natural density of felt makes it relatively durable, spills should be wiped away quickly.

About Us

Teroforma was created by Anna & Andrew Hellman in 2006 simply as a way to meet interesting people, see new places and create beautiful things. In trying to ensure that their standards for excellence were properly translated into the products they created with their hand-picked designers, Anna & Andrew rejected the allure of mass-production and embarked on a search for true craftsmen that lead them all over the world. While some trips were hilarious mistakes, others were unexpected triumphs. Slowly but surely their vision emerged of the “right way” to make things in a world of scarce resources: “we will focus on the quality and integrity of the creative process and the people involved knowing that only then can the finished product ever be considered truly beautiful.” And so Teroforma has become an evolving story of the people we work with and the things we create. It depends upon the people who appreciate what we do and how we do it just as much as the designers and craftsmen who help us to imagine and create the objects we make. We are not quite sure where our energy and imagination will lead us. That’s part of the fun. What we do know is that we will always be honest and thoughtful and that we will work hard to surprise and delight you with what we have made. Thanks for playing your part - we’re glad you’re here.

Product Care

Our products are skillfully crafted from high-quality materials and are designed with “real life” wear-and-tear in mind. While it is our experience that common sense usually goes a long way, we are happy to of-fer the following product care tips to help make sure that our products are with you as long as you like.

Glass Our glass is highly durable and dishwasher-safe (maximum 150˚F). For best results, hand wash with a mild detergent in warm water, rinse, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Extra care should be given to over-sized or stemmed pieces such as decanters or wine glasses which are just as durable as our other glass but, due to their proportions, may be more susceptible to damage - whenever possible, hand wash.

Bone China Our bone china is dishwasher-safe (maximum 150˚F). Stubborn coffee or tea stains can be removed with toothpaste and a toothbrush. The natural density and relative thinness of bone china means it will conduct heat efficiently. Any microwave use should be kept to a minimum and may result in the pieces becoming hotter than expected. Please exercise caution.

Stoneware Our stoneware is dishwasher- and microwave-safe.

Linens Pure Linen products are made from long fiber European flax - a highly resilient natural fiber that actually softens with regular use while retaining its strength. Blended Linen products contain a percentage of cotton in the weave and offer a mix of resilience and easy care. Pure and Blended Linens are washing machine safe on a gentle cycle at 85-105˚F with plenty of water and non-bleach detergent. For Pure Linen, line dry, don’t tumble dry, and iron while damp at a medium heat on the reverse side for best results. Blended Linens may be tumble dried on a gentle cycle appropriate for delicates.

Felt Wipe off spills immediately. Stains can usually be removed with a bit of soap and water. For thorough cleaning, Dry Clean Only.

Steel Our stainless steel is highly durable and dishwasher-safe (recommend 150–170˚F). Wipe dry with a soft cloth for best results. Resin handles may be restored to their original luster at any time by applying a daily-use household moisturizer on a bit of kitchen towel for a quick “polish.”

Stone Our stone is made exclusively of rock—just rinse ’em and dry ’em.

Wood Our wood products are made from conscientiously harvested hardwoods from PA, CT or MA in the US and from the eastern Czech Republic. The products will withstand occasional dishwashing, but should really just be rinsed and wiped down by hand.
