Online Virtual ToursReal world experience is one of the effective means to accumulate the knowledge. The school used to take the students to different sites

located at the outskirt of Kathmandu valley and beyond during the physical mode of schooling time. The concept of real-world knowledge has been continued through virtual tour in online mode as well. The

school has taken the students via virtual tour to different places with the collaboration of Terrain Nepal Travels and Tours. The collective efforts have been the milestone to objectify the real-world experience of various areas of Nepal such as Tea Garden, Ropai, Animal Husbandry, Floriculture, Trip to a Bakery, Roof Farming, Terai Life Ceramic Making, Snake Catcher, Oil Factory, Dhime Folk Instrument, Planetarium of Solar System, Mask Making, Stone Carving, Earthquake Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Sarangi, Mithila Arts, Herbal Plants, Thangka Painting, Bamboo Craft, Trip to Everest are some of the plans of the tours for this academic session.

Inventive Teaching PedagogyAs the world is experiencing the trials at the present justifying the change as the only thing that is constant in this world, all sectors are bound to seek the variations. Undoubtedly, the field of education can be no exception to this. Internalizing the fact, we have been able to research the inventive ideas based on the need of the departments of the school. The virtual tours, currently in progress, to different places of Nepal is the real world experience in Social Science. The google art and culture makes us feasible to virtually visit the topmost visited sites of the world. Our students have virtually visited the Taj Mahal, London Gallery, National Art Centre Tokyo etc. in 360° angles.

Virtual Science lab is another resourceful library applicable to Science Department in online mode. The Science Department is strictly applying the available features of the virtual science lab. Digi school is the innovative concept newly introduced in Computer Department. The Mathematics Department is working with “My View Board, GeoGebra, Digitizing Tablet Teaching and Smart Tech, newly introduced application by google. Each department is competitively bringing the innovation. English department is currently working with the Babylon Speaker’s Club to enhance the oratory of the students. Babylon Readers’ club and writers’ club yet to come.

Rubric is the standard set of criteria to be based on scientific ground while evaluating the attainment of knowledge in holistic sphere. Our teaching faculties prepare the rubrics of the particular subject area and upload in the google classroom as flipped materials. The school sends the prepared rubrics to parents also so that they can even evaluate their wards on the basis of standard criteria.

Moreover, we have prepared a google sheet where the teaching faculties scrutinize the attainment of the knowledge by the help of test, viva, oral questionnaires and other feasible exam tools and mention the level of the students in the sheet. The prepared sheet with level of indications is shared to all the concerned department of the school so that the school authority will screen the performance of the students and recommend the strategic outlet to the needy one.

The rubric evaluation sheet is mailed to the parents on the result publication day stating the level of the child. The ultimate goal we envision is to impart quality education by the use of well set up plans called rubrics.

Educational process is taking place with the help of internet from distance in today’s world. This is one and only option for educating students throughout the world. There is a great change in the world of learning at the 21st century.

The situation and circumstances globally emerge through digital education. Since the pandemic crisis, this online learning has become the convenient means of communication. The new trend ofhomeschooling for young children is a great new experience for both teachers as well as students.

Public speaking is one of the most desired soft skills in this competitive era. It could be at work, school, or personal life, or at a social gathering, business meeting, or in front of a large audience at a conference — being able to speak publicly is a very important asset of the modern world. BNS has designed a newly institutionalized concept based on the notion of the international toastmasters club- Babylon Speakers’ Club. It is a club where the students develop their public speaking skills and enhance language proficiency with instilling leadership quality.

The club meetings are held once a week and the roles of the students are divided into three categories i.e. featured speaker, table topic speaker (impromptu speaker), and evaluator. Each week a new cluster of speakers is formed dynamically, where one has to take the roles of different dignitaries in rotation according to the basic norms of the club.

The featured speakers are provided with the topic in advance so that they can present a flawless speech. However, the impromptu speakers, as the word suggests, are provided with the simple topics for their speech on the spot and they are supposed to deliver impromptu talks by generating ideas then and there. Besides speakers, we have an evaluator, set of panels such as ah-counter, grammarian, evaluator, general evaluator, timekeeper, and ballot master, encompassing different aspects of speakers and programs according to their respective roles. The feedback, suggestion, and comments provided by the evaluators are supposed to be perceived as constructive criticism and everybody is expected to update themselves accordingly for the next meeting. The program also has the provision of selecting the best speaker from each category by conducting the voting poll within the club. The program is strictly based on certain rules, formality, and time-bound. Repetition and use of filler words are not entertained so as to improve the quality of the speech and produce a meaningful speech to the audience. Therefore, validating the participation of all students, this ongoing project at Babylon National School aims at harnessing the skills of students in public speaking and professional use of language at the same time instilling the leadership trait in our students so as to make sure the students are competent enough for what they have to face in future.

Likewise, Babylon Kinderworld has been smoothly running distance mode classes since the year - 2020. Many online learning platforms have been used extensively since then. We are accustomed with many more online learning platforms and online interactive tools. Besides online learning, we are equally focussed on physical mode by providing worksheets and project work on weekly basis which help parents to engage the children in learning at home.

Presently, we are working in Google meet, substituting Zoom and Seesaw, the best interactive online tools. Online classes are beneficial for students to get exposed extensively to information and communication technology (ICT) besides some challenges, online education will be an integral component of education system globally.

Viva voce is an examination conducted by the educational institution to testify the objective knowledge of the subject area. This mode of examination not only evaluate the understanding but also enables the students to build up confidence and capacity to use the oral language. The school is continuously taking the viva voce from the academic session - 2020/21 in both mode.

The teaching faculties prepare some objective types of questions and provide to the students at least a week earlier so that they can prepare the voce. The students have to seat face to face with the teachers in the live interview and need to answer the questions asked by the faculties. At least five questions out of provided will be asked to the children each carrying four marks. In this way, the twenty marks will be incorporated in the paper pencil examination.

Online mode of teaching has reengineered the dominant educational thought and philosophy existing in the pre-Covid era. The world, today, is experiencing the trials. All the sectors are bound to seek the variations. Undoubtedly, the field of education can be no exception to this.

Embracing the advent of opportunities within the pandemic, we have remarkably brought the changes in core pedagogical practices in education along with the use of premium applications of synchronous and asynchronous online tools to tap the learning management system. In fact, the institution has already set up ICT friendly classrooms with professional IT department members to support variegated learning experiences in both online and physical mode.

Performance counselling is the program design to orient the students in overall ways to upbring them with uniform approach from both angles i.e., parents and teachers. The school has adopted non corporal policy from the decade and continuously safe landing every issue raised with proper counselling so as to reach to the root of the problem and drive the children to mainstream education. We were working with part time school counsellor from 2017. However, we have a professional full-time school counsellor with us from the academic session - 2020/21. We have applied appreciative inquiry approach to resolve the day-to-day problems of the students. The counsellor prepares individual case study of all the students with baseline survey in mass, counsel the needy one and organizes the parenting program strictly based on the outcome of one-to-one counselling in the context of physical mode of schooling. The performance counselling is continued in even home-schooling session. The learning management system applied by the school is able to record each and every details of the individuals. The needy students will be called in the counselling room on the basis of record and go for counselling. The performance counselling in distance mode is creating productive vibes and ambience.

Dance Class in Distance Mode

Babylon kinderworld along with Grade I has been applying thematic plans to teach the daily lessons. We have prepared the term wise plans dividing the total numbers of themes prescribed by the Curriculum Development Centre. Additionally, the parameters of evaluations in the classes where grade teaching is in progress have been extensively widened. The narrative evaluation tools the school has developed on the basis of guidelines of Curriculum Development Centre is, in fact, the real evaluation of each students in day-to-day basis. The grade sheet of these classes will be accompanied with the thematic evaluation onward and the parents are provided the accumulated portfolio in every term.

Grade Teaching

Dance is the form of art consisting of sequence of physical movements. It allows people to be more active, socialized and creative. Also, dancing allows an indiviual to express oneself. Furthermore, dancing helps bodies and minds relax as the music and surroundings take people away from their anxiety for a while. Mentally, they unwind and have fun, sharing a laugh or two. Considering the aforementioned advantages, we have provided dance classes to certain grades.

“Parent’s perspective on the system adopted by Babylon School for students educational growth and development”

Online learning is one of the imminent trends in the educations sector around the globe. It was a challenging task for the school to switch the teaching learning methodology from as well to online due to pandemic within the country and across the globe. Obviously, Babylon became successful in grooming students with the online teaching modality within very short span of time without hindering student’s academic grade. I am grateful to the entire Babylon family for the very contribution.

It’s our fortune that with advanced & upgraded technologies, this mode of learning has been made similar. Being parent & well-wisher of Babylon family, I would proudly say that the online education has increased educational access, provided a high quality learning opportunity, improved student’s skill and expanded educational horizons.

However, as everything has got two sides online education has some fundamental drawback that can be inconvenient. Using the computer too much can make students prone to plagiarism. It can also cause vision problems as students sit near the laptop whole day. It may also hinder physical development and detach students from classmate. I hope, Babylon family would look forward in solving the issues up to an extent in near future.

Despite, online teaching learning modality; the doorstep transportation, computer education, sport activity, student’s security, health facilities etc. are indeed remarkable features of Babylon National School.

Since late 2019, COVID-19 and its different variants have made life difficult for all the humans living on this earth. No people, no community, no city or no country are over the safety line.

As today COVID-19 has devastated all the sectors and occupational fields. Among the various affected areas, the educational field is one of the most affected zones, which cannot be evaluated and calculated in monetary terms because this field bears the future of children or future of our globe, where they are missing the learning rights and the mental growth through learning.

Based on the situation these days to tackle by school to operate and function the system of learning rights of children and also to fulfill the criteria and curriculum, school has adopted the distance learning mode through home learning techniques. Technology based teaching is another key factor of distance learning. Hence, in this system, all the students are inspired to learn using the latest technologies such as the internet, gadgets, software and applications (mobile apps) with different audio and video tools. I heartily thank Babylon National School for choosing the approach of internet based homeschooling to our children formulating different plans and policies that changes with the time to conduct smooth classes among the kids with hazard free environment.

I am SLC 8th Batch student of Babylon National School who successfully passed out in 2067 B.S. It’s been a decade since but I often feel like its yesterday. Anyone who has been a student, school life is their best life which represents an important learning experience such as in terms of building self-confidence, motivation and always the desire to give our best and this school is no exception. Looking back, I still remember the time at school and the memories of those days are still vivid. I learned to cooperate, got motivated and the school taught me the true meaning of cooperation, love and determination.

To mention about what I am doing right now, I am final year MBA, finance student studying at Kings College, Kathmandu and professionally working in ‘Rural Reconstruction Nepal’ which is International Level NGO covering the portfolio of ‘Finance Officer’ and the organization implements various development projects throughout the country with the funding from various multilateral international organizations like UNO and other bilateral partners.

Greeting’s readers, students, future innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. My name is Nilesh Pradhan, a Babylonian class of 2014. I was once a student at Babylon National School just like any of you worrying about my future while, simultaneously, enjoying my student life at its best. I transferred to Babylon National School in Grade 1 from a small village called Rumjatar which is located at Okhaldhunga district of Siddhicharan Municipality. Moving from a village to Kathmandu city was a significant emotional event for me as a young man, however the teachers, my fellow classmates, and all workers at Babylon made me feel at home. I continued to attend Babylon until 3rd grade before I transferred to Little Angel’s School in Hattiban, Lalitpur in order to receive “better education”.

Although Little Angel’s School ranks as one of the best schools in Nepal, I, personally, felt like Babylon was the school for me. I, then, transferred back to Babylon in 7th Grade where I was once again instantly welcomed by my teachers and fellow classmates. Not only the inclusive environment, but also the education and opportunities I received from this school is what molded me into the person I am today.

As a student in Babylon, I participated in various inter-school competitions such as: Spelling Bee competitions, Quiz competitions, Basketball tournaments, and many other activities that built my character at a young age. My teachers: Lalu sir, Shekhar sir, Chandra sir, Subash sir, Uttam sir, etc. to name a few among incredible group of teachers, guided me and ensured I was understanding the materials that was taught to me in the classroom. Today, I am a Mechanical Engineering degree holder from Northern Illinois University at Illinois, USA and an Officer in the US Army and I can, genuinely, say half of the credits for all of my current successes belong to none other than the teachers and opportunities I received from Babylon National School.

To all current Babylonians, you might be feeling overwhelmed and stressed with the materials that are being taught in the classroom, however, I challenge you all to take it one step at a time and utilize all the resources Babylon has to offer to better yourself every day. I participated in almost all activities held by the school to include dance performances, poem writing and recitation, essay competition, art competition, etc. These activities not only build your character, but also develops you to become proactive and take disciplined initiative which is the number one characteristics of a Leader. I encourage all students to enjoy all the opportunities Babylon has to offer, and advice all the parents who are just as equally worried about their children’s future to let them explore all the opportunities

Babylon has to offer so that they can continue to hone their abilities and eventually find something they genuinely love. As someone who loved Mathematics and Science from young age (influenced by the teachers who were passionate in teaching), I pursued my education in this field and I am forever grateful for their guidance and knowledge they bestowed on me.

I have been involving in Nepal’s development sector since 2015 AD.I believe, the paradigm of education system and its delivery has been significantly changing (i.e. Technological Advancement) and it is utmost important for the school to cope with such issues and challenges in order to act dynamically as a delivery component and sustain its uniqueness. I am grateful to the entire Babylon family and looking forward to the school’s better future endeavor.

“My Family”

Family is a group of people who are related with each other living together under same roof. There are two types of families they are joint family and nuclear family. As there is a saying family is where life begins and love never ends. I have a nuclear family that consists of my father, mother, brother and me. We all are very attached, with each other. My father is a business man, my mother is housemaker and I and my brother are students. As my father is a businessman, he is always busy. It is a bit difficult for him to manage time but somehow he manages time for family. We always sit together at night and talk about our day.

The first gift given by god is family. When you get the support of your family, you can always be successful. And, I get support from my family. The love with the family members is so pure.

You can earn money anytime but you can’t earn love of family. As I even mentioned up family is where life begins and love never ends which indeed does happen.

At last, I would say that please manage some time for your family members, love your family because you have one life and one family. I love my family very much.

“My Favourite Hobby”

Football is my favorite hobby. It’s a team based sport in which you can score only by placing the ball inside the goal post of the opposite team. Team contents eleven players including field players and a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper’s role is to protect the goal. He’s the only person that can touch the ball with hands, but only within penalty area. There are also three men who are not playing, these are the referees.

Personally, I play football for both training and fun. Cording a goal or blocking a dangerous shot is a really nice feeling, what makes football a good game for minimizing the stress. It’s good to have a field idol that you can watch to improve your skills. My idol is Kaka, because I love the way he dribbles and passes the ball.

While playing, you must remember that football is a team game. Individual actions may be strafing, but there’s more pleasure from the game when you remember about the teamwork. Football is based on team works and that’s the best part of it in my opinion.

EDITORIAL

Babylon, a smart community with high expectation and high academic achievement, is strongly committed to empowering and inspiring all students to excel as lifelong learners. The school has strived to provide world class facilities to limited number of children in the classroom. Our basic objective is quality output in teaching/learning activities. We have complete paradigm shift in term of our approach, facilities, pedagogies and philosophy. ICT based classes, art of state infrastructure, well trained faculties; varieties of curriculum, life skill classes, and strict implementation of progressive learning methodologies (PLM) such as rubric based teaching and flipping materials, non-corporal punishment, connecting classrooms, international visits, school enterprise challange and digi school are some of the indicators that justify the paradigm shift of the whole school system. We are specially focused on culture, language, handwriting, working culture, life skills, learning environment, deadline-based performance and result oriented output from each and every stake holder of the school which may go contrary to bulk of general schools that neglect such particular areas despite full-fledged understanding of letter grading system and run back to rote learning for the sake of paper evaluation.

TRAVELOGUE

I was 10 years old when I visited a beautiful place called Roksing Bhanjyang situated at Khotang. Khotang is also my hometown. I have visited many places of Khotang and Roksing Bhanjyang was one of it. Unlike other places Roksing Bhanjyang was really different. All the areas around it is filled with mesmerizing scenic beauty.

I went there for hiking with my family. We went there by walking. While walking we come across many temples of other beautiful places. We started the hiking process around 7: 00 AM in the morning. We faced lots of forests on our way. The sun was like a massive ball of fire. It was shining really bright which made us sweat and it wasn’t a good feeling. The destination was really far from where we lived.

Finally, after many hours of walking with lots of obstacles on our way, we finally reached to Roksing Bhanjyang. There were people of many races of ethnic groups having a traditional Sakela dance, so I decided to join them. After that, I sat down and enjoyed the moment left. Then,

we returned back home.

It was such a memorable moment. If you ever happen to visit Khotang, do checkout Roksing Bhanjyang.

Ghost-Plant

Ghost plant (Graptopetalum Paraguarí) is a cold hard succulent with pale gray or whitish because of sprawling stem. It's versatile which helps stand out in your landscape as an unusual groangaeuer, cascading

dean a container, or even as a houseplant. A powdery coating called primrose covers the plant's leaves, giving them their ghostly look. This coating is delicate and can be damaged by handling.

The Foolish Donkey

A salt seller used to carry the salt bag on his donkey to the market every day. On the way they had to cross a stream. One day, the donkey suddenly stumbled down the stream and the salt bag also fell into the water. The salt dissolved in the water and hence the bag became very light to carry.

The donkey was happy. Then the salt seller came to understand the trick and decided to teach a lesson to it. The next day, he loaded a cotton bag on the donkey. Again it played the same trick hoping that the cotton bag would be lighter. But the dampened cotton became very

heavy and the donkey suffered. It learnt a lesson. It didn't play the trick anymore after that day, and the seller was happy.

Dialogue on Effects of Acid Attack

Sarika: Hello Rosika! How are you?Rosika: I am fine. What about you?Sarika: I am fine too. But, I am worried about the terrible cases of acid throwing incidents across the country.Rosika: Yes, it has become a great menace in our country. I am terribly concerned about it.Sarika: I can't imagine how people can be so rude to human being.Rosika: What a dangerous decay of human values! Mostly the young girls are victim of acid throwing.Sarika: You are right. In most cases, a depressed young man throws acid at a young girl when she refuses to love.Rosika: Yes. And the unfortunate victim lingers in anguish. It takes a long time to recover if she doesn't die.Sarika: Right. The affected parts of the body become disfigured forever. In most cases, these youths are one sided lovers and dowry-hunter husbands.Rosika: There are also cases where personal enmity or disputes are the causes of it.Sarika: We have to do something to stop it.Rosika: Exactly! We should join awareness against this barbarity.

Sarika: Of course; we should campaign soon. Let's sit together tomorrow and discuss about it. Good bye now.Rosika: I agree. Thank you.
