3 May 2018 Dear Parents, If you are like me it is so easy to overlook or not to appreciate what I have and who is important in my life. I can take both for granted each and every day. I can always benefit from a gentle reminder to myself from time to time to: 1. Be thankful for family. We are all where we are today because our parents or guardians raised us. Hopefully, we have taken all the positive lessons from them and are applying them to our lives. If you are married and have children, be thankful for the blessing of your family. If you are single, be thankful for your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins. 2. Be thankful for friends. True friends encourage us, motivate us, and push us to do better. Take time to call them and thank them for all the great things they have done. Show your gratitude by also being a great friend to others. 3. Be thankful for a home and for nourishment. If you have a home, be thankful you have a place to rest and relax. Hopefully your home is also a place of safety and encouragement. Truly show you are thankful for your home by supporting organisations who help those who have no homes. In addition, we should be thankful we have the opportunity to eat on a daily basis. If you have plenty, please show your thanks by helping to support agencies that care for the hungry. 4. Be thankful for laughter. Laughter is a gift from God which can bring great joy. Be thankful for the laughter of children, a spouse, or friends. 5. Be thankful for a job. A job is a great blessing, whether we are happy in the job we are in or not. Take the time to list out reasons you are thankful for your job. If you find this hard, don't look at your job just as a means to make money, but look at it as a way to help people. 6. Be thankful for the freedoms you have. We have so many freedoms other countries do not have. It has cost some men and women time away from family, life-altering injuries, or the ultimate price their life. Take time today to say ‘thank you’ to someone who helped, or is helping, protect those freedoms. 7. Be thankful for those who have made a positive impact in your life. All of us have had people in our lives who have made a positive impact. It may have been a teacher, coach, pastor, youth worker, Sunday school teacher, or a family member. Be thankful that these people were placed in your life and give to others as they have given to you. 8. Be thankful for your health. If you are reading this, you are probably a person in good health. Be thankful for that. However, there may be people in your family and community who are not as fortunate. Take time to help someone this week. 3 May 2018 Dear Parents,

If you are like me it is so easy to overlook or not to appreciate what I have and who is important in my life. I can take both for granted each and every day. I can always benefit from a gentle reminder to myself from time to time to: 1. Be thankful for family. We are all where we are today because our parents or guardians raised us. I TOOK YOUR PLACE – A REFLECTION One day, a man went to visit a church. He arrived early,

parked his car, and got out. Another car pulled up near

him, and the driver told him, “I always park there. You

took my place!”

The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an

empty seat, and sat down. A young lady from the church

approached him and stated, “That’s my seat! You took

my place!” The visitor was somewhat distressed by this

rude welcome, but said nothing.

After Sunday School, the visitor went into the church

sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to

him and said, “That’s where I always sit. You took my

place!” The visitor was even more troubled by this

treatment, but still said nothing.

Later, as the congregation was praying for Christ to

dwell among them, the visitor stood, and his

appearance began to change. Horrible scars became

visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone

from the congregation noticed him and called out, “What

happened to you?”

The visitor replied…”I took your place.”

MONTH OF MARY May has always been a

special month in my life.

During May we celebrate our

mums and our heavenly

mother, Mary. As a child it

was a time for our family to

gather with other families in

the neighbourhood to pray

The Rosary. As an adult and

a mother myself, it is a time

to appreciate my mum and

give thanks for the gift of

motherhood.

This May all classes will be learning about Mary and

praying various Marian prayers. I encourage you to do

the same.

MOTHER’S DAY LITURGY

Each year our school community comes together to

celebrate and thank God for mothers. Our liturgy, which

will be held in the Marist Centre on Friday 11 May at

9:45am, will be followed by a special morning tea. All

mums welcome. Please RSVP by Monday 7 May.

VIRTUE OF THE FORTNIGHT – LOVE Love is a special feeling that fills your heart. You show

love in a smile, a kind word, a thoughtful act or a hug.

Love is treating people and things with care and

kindness because they mean so much to you. Love is

contagious. Pass it on.

"I give you a new commandment: Love one another.

Just as I have loved you, you must also love one

another.” (John 13:34)

TOUCH FOOTBALL Last Thursday 26 April, a number of students from Emmanuel attended the Northern Suburbs trial for touch football. Well done to Cohen Ross, Harry Kidd, Saxon Crofts, Jesse Riley, Harrison Deguara, Cooper Deguara, Flynn Battaia, Kade Adamson, Paige Mooney, Stephanie Schembri, Laura Camilleri and Charlie Tickle who attended the trials. Congratulations to Stephanie Schembri, Flynn Battaia and Harry Kidd on selection in the Northern Suburbs Touch Team. Best of luck at the Mackay and District Touch Trials on Friday 4 May. Mackay and District permission notes and money need to be returned to Emmanuel please.

Mrs Brandon

RUGBY LEAGUE Wednesday afternoon saw Emmanuel take on its old

sparring partner Fitzgerald State School. Spectators

buckled their seatbelts as excitement built towards kick-

off. Both teams moved the ball over the length of the

field within each set of six. Barnstorming runs by

Emmanuel’s forwards Sebastian Stehbens, Cohen

Ross and Jack Thorburn had Fitzgerald on the back

foot. Harry Deguara, Connor Flakus and Thomas Fry all

summed up the situation and gained valuable metres

running from dummy half. Saxon Crofts and Flynn

Battaia skilfully directed the boys around the park,

resulting in the team crossing the line for three superb

tries. Unfortunately, Emmanuel eventually went down

18 - 12. Next week the boys take on Mackay Christian

College at 4:00 pm (Field 3). Parents, friends and

supporters are always welcome.
