SECONDARY NEWS

Welcome to the start of another fabulous week at

Tullamore Central School. This week is going to be

a busy one with many events and learning activities.

PBL Term 4

This term we will be focusing on organisation and

study skills. Students at our first lesson on Monday

Week one, set the collective goal of getting notes in

no later than 48 hours after issue and to improve our

knowledge of when things are on. 20% of students

managed to achieve this. Next week we are aiming

for 100% of notes in ready for the number of events

that are coming up over the next 3 weeks. For PBL

next week students will be working on a study

timetable to prepare for upcoming assessments and

exams.

Central West Beef Week

This year our cattle show team have been invited to

participate in the Youth Workshop as part of

Central West Beef Week. This is an invite only

event, held at the National Field Days at Borenore,

with only six schools participating from across the

central west. Students will be continuing to hone

their skills in show preparation with some of the

best in the industry on the day. A full report will be

in next week’s newsletter.

Have a wonderful week.

MATHEMATICS AT

TULLAMORE CENTRAL SCHOOL

Stage 4 have finished off a topic on indices and

have started a topic on measurement.

Stage 5 have completed a topic on financial

mathematics, there was an assessment task attached

to this topic and the results from this hard-working

group was very pleasing.

The Year 11 boys have completed their examination

to complete their preliminary year and have

commenced their HSC work.

Year 12 have completed their trial examinations last

term and I am sure they are all studying hard for

their HSC examination. Good luck Year 12!

YEARS 5 – 8 STEM

Students in Years 5 – 8 STEM have commenced

their projects last week. Some students forgot to

bring in their materials that they need for their

projects. If they could please ensure that they have

them for Wednesday this week. We have the next

four weeks to complete the projects so if students

can organise their materials for testing / building

and ingredients for those testing food items it would

be much appreciated.

STAGE 4 ZOO EXCURSION

Last Tuesday, students travelled to Taronga

Western Plains Zoo to complete the field work

component of their assessment task on

Classification. Students have been learning about

the taxonomic naming system used by scientists and

how this is used in the process of classification.

Miss Shankelton

Stage 4 Science Teacher

Students completed a workshop at the Zoo

education centre, which they were able to see and

touch animals and examine their adaptations in

more detail. Students showed an excellent level of

knowledge and were very well behaved and were

great ambassadors for Tullamore Central School.

Following the workshop, students examined five

enclosures and for their assessment, they need to

discuss how the enclosures are designed to meet the

needs of the animal in terms of their adaptions

(physical, behavioural and physiological). Students

examined the Meerkats, African Wild Dogs,

Giraffe, Hippos and Lemur enclosures. I look

forward to seeing the awesome presentations that

will be produced at the end of the task. Thank you

to Mrs Edwards for her assistance on the day.

AGRICULTURE IN ACTION

Cattle Show Team

Thank you to those students that expressed interest

in the Junior Show team program for 2020 and the

secondary squad. Permission notes will be issued

later this week detailing the dates of practice

sessions and student requirements for this.

Chicken Club

Students in K – 4 who are interested in helping run

our layer chicken program this term are to see Miss

Shankelton by the end of the week. This will be

done during two lunch times a week. Students will

be feeding the chickens, cleaning the pen, refreshing

the laying boxes and collecting eggs for packing

and sale during this time.

Wanted – cans and bottles

As part of our fundraising for the Agriculture

program, we will be collecting the 10c return cans

and bottles. No need to sort them as we will do

this!! Cans and bottles can be dropped in to the Ag

plot area where there are two bins labelled Cans and

Plastic Bottles and Glass Bottles. Thank you to

those people who have donated cans and bottles

already.

Also for the Jimmy Barnes weekend we are looking

for 1000L pods to collect cans for the Ag program

and for the P&C. If you have some clean pods

sitting around on your farms the P&C and the Ag

program will gladly take them off your hands.

SPORT

Please refer to Term at a Glance for upcoming

sporting events.

Primary League

NRL will be hosting a league 6s day in Parkes for

students from small schools. The day is aimed at

developing skills and then applying these in

modified games. Students do not need prior

experience to play; the day is aimed at development

and encourages players of all abilities to further

their skills and understanding. The Tully bus will be

unavailable this day so it would be great if parents

could arrange for students to car pool, as there will

only be limited seats available.

District Tennis

Congratulations to Riley, Beau, Jack, Dylan,

Sabrina, Siara, Imogen and Hannah who have been

selected to participate in the district tennis gala day

in Tottenham. Students are reminded to hand their

permission notes into the office. Students may use

their own tennis racquet on the day or arrange to use

a school one.

Super 8s Cricket

This year we will once again be participating in the

Super 8s Cricket. All secondary students are invited

to attend. Once notes are returned, we will confirm

which teams we will be sending.

Girls League Tag

Please hand notes and money back to the office as

soon as possible so we can finalise numbers and

confirm our attendance at this event.

It has been pleasing to see many students borrowing

and reading the new books we have recently

received this term. We have just ordered more from

the latest book club catalogue, which will arrive in

the next few weeks.

It has been very busy in the library at lunchtimes,

with many of the students coming up to play games,

computers and cards and escape the weather.

Thursdays.

Have a great week!
