Whakatauāki (Proverb)● “Ka Pu te Ruha, Ka Hao te Rangatahi” - “When the old net is worn, the new net

goes fishing”

● To be effective, fishing nets need to be woven for the types of fish one wants to catch; they need Kārewa (floaters) and Punga (anchor/ Weights).

● The school is the fishing ground to set one's net.

● The kārewa (floats) are the key concepts that are held by whānau and schools to keep the net afloat.

● The Punga (anchor/weights) represent the stability formed by the shared development of an effective, sustainable whānau engagement strategy between the school and whānau.

Homework - What is it?DEPARTMENT WHAT ARE OUR EXPECTATIONS OF HOMEWORK?

ENGLISH

Homework is mostly to finish off work from class or revise what was done in class that day. This may change if there is an assessment (research, essay, wide reading etc.) where they may have a specific task to complete. We also encourage students to read SOMETHING each night. It can be anything they want - we just want them reading. Roughly 20 - 30 minutes (if possible).

HEALTH & PHYSICALEDUCATION

Catch up on any work not finished for the next health lesson a week later.

Maintain an active lifestyle and participate in sport and recreation

MATHEMATICS Homework is predominantly catching up on work either missed or behind with. Sometimes there is homework assigned online through Google Classroom or mymathsonline.com.au

SCIENCE

Completing work which was meant to be completed in class. This applies to all year levels. Education Perfect material to be completed in a certain time frame as self-directed learning. Self-directed learning of literacy activities through the workbooks in Google Classroom as an adjunct to class work rather than specifically assigned work.

Optional: see what things you can mix together from your kitchen to make an explosion. Extension work: same thing, but in the garage.

SOCIAL STUDIES Mostly to finish off class work or to work on end of unit assessment. Students encouraged to read around the topic being studied and in particular, look at current events and news.
