From the Principal

Did you go to the Parkes Show last week? Did you come and visit the PCS show stand and say hello? At PCS we really enjoy Show week. As a school that is all about community, it is a prime opportunity for us to get involved in the many different areas the Show has to offer.

I am so proud of the way that PCS families, staff and students were involved across so many areas to help make the show a great success. The show stand helped us to have an obvious presence. Belinda Westcott and the team did an exceptional job once again at preparing the stand. We even won the Most Attractive Exhibit Award! That’s 3 years in a row now! We even had our Moomba aircraft hanging from the roof; thank you Mr Wynstra! It was great having a constant stream of people stopping to chat, play with the robotics, look at the photos and gain a bit of insight into our great school. Thank you everyone for making the stand what it was.

Did you notice the PCS presence in other areas outside our the show stand? PCS students:• Hosted guests in the President’s room• Set up and volunteered on the PCS stand• Competed in equestrian events• Performed dance routines

Show Week!

• Volunteered on multiple stands and exhibits• Competed in Master Showman and Junior Showgirl• Competed in Miss Teenager• Entered and won major awards in a whole host of art and food/produce related

competitions

In fact, PCS had more than 50 students and staff enter competitions at the show. I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate those PCS students who have participated in the Peak Hill Show or are about to participate in the Forbes and Grenfell shows.

At PCS we know the value of community and we love working with families to help the next generation appreciate and invest into what we have here in country towns. We are so thankful to have families in our school who are prepared to roll the sleeves up and get in and make something great like the Parkes Show or the PCS Spring Fair happen.

So, thank you to Mr Peter Unger (Show President), the Show Committee and the army of volunteers who made the event possible. What a great opportunity the show provides our students, and all of us to work towards something bigger than ourselves. Let’s see what we can accomplish next year!

Have a great week.

Tennis

On Friday, eight students from Stage 2 participated in the Parkes Todd Woodbridge Tennis Cup Regional Finals.

The students were excellent representatives of our school. They showed great sportsmanship during the games and were very encouraging to both each other and students from other schools.

Our students demonstrated the skills they had learnt at school and were placed 4th on the day.

Thank you to Mrs Wilson and Mrs Crowley who accompanied the students for the day.

Congratulations and well done on all your hard work!

Community Events

Here are some of our Students and Staff that were caught on camera having a wonderful time at the Parkes Show as well as PCS students who submitted entries through the school that placed in the Arts and Crafts Section at the Show!

It was so great to walk around and see so many PCS entries in all sections including cooking, eggs, needlework and so much more. Our students also volunteered in the President’s Room and on our very own show stand which took out the ‘Most Attractive Exhibit Award’.

Well done everyone for getting behind this great community event and entering items into the show!

Book Fair

On Monday our school began our Book Fair with a Book Character Dress-Up Day. It was great to see so many students and teachers participating in this event. Prizes were awarded for the Best Dressed in each class.

Throughout the week, the Book Fair was open and students and parents came to purchase books, posters and stationery. The proceeds from the sales of this event will help our school to purchase some more books and resources for our Library.

Thank you for your support of our Book Fair.

MEDIA RELEASE

HELPING LEARNER DRIVERS BECOME SAFER DRIVERS FREE TWO HOUR WORKSHOP FOR PARKES

Parents and supervisors of local learner drivers are encouraged to attend a free workshop which will be held at Parkes Christian School at Parkes on Thursday 05 September. The free two hour workshop, Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers, will offer parents and supervisors hands-on advice on how to provide the most effective driving practice for learner drivers. Lachlan Shire Council's Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer, Belinda Coe, says the workshop offers practical advice to parents and supervisors on how to help learner drivers become safer drivers. "Parents and supervisors of learner drivers have a crucial role to play in making our roads safer. That is why Parkes Shire Council have teamed up with Roads and Maritime Services to hold these FREE two hour workshops. "The workshop covers the licencing system, how to use the Learner Driver Logbook including the use of digital logbooks, licence conditions for learner and P-plate drivers, the benefits of on-road driving sessions, tips on supervising a learner driver and more. "Parents and supervisors who have attended this workshop in the past have found that it boosted their confidence, helped them better plan driving sessions and allowed them to share their experiences with other parents and supervisors," Mrs Coe said. The Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers workshop will be held at Parkes Christian School on Thursday 05 September commencing at 5:30pm. Light refreshments will be available during the workshop. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling Belinda Coe on (02) 6861 2364. For further information please call Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer, Belinda Coe, on (02) 6861 2364.
