Principal’s Message -
School Plan—2021-2024
I am in the process of attending professional learning to develop Walhallow Public School’s 2021-2024 School Plan.
As part of this plan staff and I are currently working on a Situational Analysis that describes the School ’s Vision Statement
and School Context.
Normally I would take these statements, that have been developed by students and staff, to be reviewed at our P and C
Meeting. As P and C Meetings are on hold at the moment, we are showing the community via our newsletter and are
seeking any feedback on these statements and descriptions. This week our focus is on the School’s Vision Statement —
Please read below —
Walhallow Public School strives to build confident, motivated and socially competent students who are culturally aware and enjoy
learning. By valuing individuals and being committed to student well-being, we will develop personal, social and academic confi-
dence and competence. This will lead to engaged, self-regulated, responsible and respectful lifelong learners. By developing
teacher capacity to deeply engage our students and differentiate their learning we will support students academically, culturally,
socially and personally. Committing to strong school-community relationships we encourage parents to be confident contributing
participants of our school learning culture. Staff will work with varied community networks and our students will benefit from the
opportunities these connections provide.
Please feel free to contact the school if you have any feedback for us.
Life Education Van—will visit the school on Monday, 24.08.2020. Healthy Harold
items will be available for purchase on the day.
Red Cross Pillowcase Project— The Pillowcase Project is a school-based disaster
preparedness education program designed to help students in Years 3—6 to build
their knowledge and readiness in disaster situations. The concept of using a pil-
lowcase as an emergency kit was developed when university students carried
their possessions in a pillowcase when evacuating their campus during Hurricane
Katrina in America.

The Echidna Room
The Rainbow Serpent Room
In the Echidna room, we are reading a book about Lake Eyre. We are also reading Bilby Secrets and learning how to write an informative text on an animal that lives in the desert. Here are some fun facts!
A lot of pelicans travel a long way to have a drink when the lake is full and when it is empty they fly back home again. Jannali
When the lake is dry, frogs sleep in the cracks for years and when the lake is full the frogs come up and swim. Eileena
Lake Eyre is a salt water lake. When the lake is dry the salt dries up and forms a crust. Emily
Tadpoles have adapted to the desert conditions. They turn into frogs in just a few short weeks. Amarni
One hundred thousand years ago, the middle of Australia was a sea. But the climate became drier over time and the sea became smaller turning into a lake. Curtis
When the sun dries up the lake, the plants prepare for the dry time. Seaweed releases seeds and the seeds can stay alive for years waiting for the flood. Jalii
It’s been another busy few weeks in the Rainbow Serpent Room. We’ve continued to focus on our
environment and creating our ‘My Story” pieces of writing. We are using circles to represent the
different parts of the community. The students have introduced themselves and where they live.
In Mathematics we are focusing on time. Kindergarten students have been looking at time on the
hour and Stage 1 have been reading half past the hour. We are making connections between
analog and digital time.
