Principal’s Report
Welcome to Term 3, 2019. I must apologise for the mud that greeted all
of us on Monday morning if you entered from South Road. Work had
taken place over the holidays to finish linking the storm water pipe to the
drainage pits near the BER building. Unfortunately, they had to dig a deep
trench and remove some of the concrete and asphalt that runs between
the car park, the BER and the sand pit. Over the next school holidays, the
car park and the pathways will be sealed properly so until then, don’t wear
your best shoes if you have to enter the school from South Road. If you
are able to enter through the back gate via Adamson Street that runs off
Joy Street, you will find it a much cleaner way.
During the first three weeks of this Term, Ms Ivy Leach will be the Acting
Assistant Principal in Ms Catherine Robertson’s absence. Catherine is on
her honeymoon following her recent marriage. Also starting this Term is
Ms Marta Rodrigues who will be teaching Spanish to your children. Marta
is an experienced teacher who is on loan to us from St Albans Heights
Primary School. She will be with us two days a week.
Term 3 is generally the time when many children get sick with coughs,
colds and hopefully not, flu. If you are able to get your child a flu shot,
please do. There have been a number of deaths from flu this year,
including children and a flu shot is a good way to keep your children safe.
If your child does get sick, please keep them home until they are well. We
do not have the staff or the space to look after sick children and it is unfair
on the staff and other children who run the risk of getting sick themselves
when helping your child.

2019 Parent Opinion Survey
WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
The Department of Education and Training is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The
Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted
amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of
parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey
results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey
are anonymous. If you are one of the 30%, you will receive your information about how to log in in an envelope we
will give to your child/ren. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22rd July to Sunday
11th August.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient
time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be
available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha),
Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the
end of September.
Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
Regards,
Graeme Smith.
Principal.
Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Dinjerra is excited to be participating.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2019.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
Students at Dinjerra will be given class time to enter the books they have read into the system. If you would like to do this at home, please see Ms Naz for login details.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc Thank-you, Ms. Naz

Interschool Sports On the last day of term 2, the mixed netball team went to the grand finals and played against Footscray Primary
School. Before we played Footscray P.S, they played with another school first so we practiced a bit. Some students
played on the playground too. After they finished playing with the other school, it was our turn. Some of us were
nervous, some of us were competitive. We played a fun game and we were kind of sad that we didn't win, but at
least we got a certificate and in the end, the score was 0 to 15.
We have finished our winter sports and are now moving to our summer sports; Cricket, Newcomb and Basketball.
Information Projects
In our term 2 Inquiry/Reading & Writing we did
information projects to inform our readers of our
chosen topic and most people wrote about different
countries. Some people did their projects on posters,
Prezi, in books, Powtoon and other things. Our
projects are for other people to read and learn more.
We all did great making our projects look presentable
and fun!
Maths In Maths we have started learning about shape and
the properties of shape after finishing up last term
learning about compass and location. We are excited
to find out what else we’re going to be learning.
Trixie, Alice and Sarimah.
Life Ed Van In Life Ed Van we learned about internet/cyber
safety and who to trust and not to trust online. We
met Harold the Giraffe. We helped Harold make
good choices on what he was doing online. We also
watched a video about a boy who goes on an
unsafe website and the consequences. We talked
about not giving your personal information to a
stranger and about who you know and trust online.

Cadbury’s chocolates to sell.
Selling Cadbury’s chocolates is also one of our biggest
fundraisers. We will be sending each family home with a
large box of Cadbury’s chocolates to sell on Friday 26th July.
Each box contains 60 giant chocolate frogs and caramello
bears which sell for $1 each. Dinjerra receives $24 from
each box as profit. If we sell them all we will raise $1800.
Please let the office know if you don’t wish to sell them.
Scholastic Book
Club Our 5th issue of Scholastic Book
Club is going home today with the
Newsletter. All money and order
forms are due back on Monday
29th July 2019. The more orders
we get, the school earns bonus
points and it goes towards books
for our library.
School Banking day is Tuesday Remember, Tuesday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit. For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Dinjerra Primary School. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
