[email protected] Term 3 Week 10, Thursday 16th September. Dear Families, There is no doubt that the past term has been extremely challenging. We are so proud of what our Newcomb PS Kids have still managed to achieve even in the face of adversity. It is expected as students start to eye off the upcoming holidays that motivation to engage with their learning begins to reduce. Although this would be concerning for many parents, it is not all that different to what happens during normal face to face learning. The ongoing cognitive load of students throughout a term will often see children begin to fatigue at the best of times as they eye the finish line. The difference in our current situation is that students are at home and lacking the ongoing connection to their peers. A key in managing this fatigue is ensuring a supporting routine. Things such as sleep, diet and exercise will strongly support mental wellbeing and motivation. Just know that it is ok to take a step back if you feel your child is not coping. Every child will have a different reaction to the current situation. Ensuring children have a calm and supportive environment where they can be heard helps provide them with the security they are often seeking. The school holidays will be the much-needed circuit breaker for our kids and reassuring them that everything will be ok will go a long way to guiding them through these very much unusual times. Dear Families,

There is no doubt that the past term has been extremely challenging. We are so proud of what our Newcomb PS Kids have still managed to achieve even in the face of adversity. It is expected as students start to eye off the upcoming holidays that motivation to engage with their learning begins to reduce.

The difference in our current situation is that students are at home and lacking the ongoing connection to their peers.

Last day of term

Tomorrow is our last day of term 3 and also our Footy Colours Day. We will be finishing school at 2:15pm. We are looking forward to celebrating our Footy Colours Day with everyone! We hope that you will be able to join your morning meetings in footy colours and for those students in Prep to Grade 2, we will see you at school in your footy colours.

Buildings & Grounds Update

Our architects are busy redesigning our grounds and working with us to make sure our students have a great functional play space. We hope to have these new designs soon.

We had our new portable building arrive on site last Friday. This was very exciting and the crane lifted each of the five parts onto our site and put them together. Our grade 3/4W and 5/6A will be moving into these new classrooms the first day back next term.

School crossings, drop off and pick up and general safety

It appears that we have a few people who are not sure of the rules around school crossings. Please ensure that you follow the rules laid down to keep our students safe. At the end of the day, students should cross the road only at the selected crossing points.

We encourage our families to use the front gate on Richard Street, as we have a crossing supervisor in place to ensure the safety of our children. If you are using the Lindsay Street drop off and pick up, please do not park over the crossing, do not park in the no parking zones and please drive slowly and watch the road. Parents are reminded to keep the flow of traffic going and exercise patience.

We aim to alleviate such traffic jams in the future when all of our drop off and pick up points are open. Please remember kids can use the back gates of the oval to meet you at the Lucas Street end of Lindsay Street and Newlands Street. Please continue to work with us to maintain safety standards and keep our students and families safe.

Enjoy your break! Thank you to our hard-working students, families and teachers. Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy all that the holidays bring - lots of fun, activity and time with family and friends (without the stress of home learning!).

We appreciate everything you have done to support your child this past term and all hope we see you back here at school on Monday 4th October! I will keep you updated if this changes though Dojo.

Stay safe, Carly
