The children of Modbury West showed confidence and took on new learning with resilience and satisfaction. What an important message and aim for our community on the wall of the swimming centre, “At the end of primary school, students to swim 400 metres”. Thank you to all the families who came to watch their children, the swimming centre had never seen so many families. It is with this in mind that I reflect on a meeting I attended with partnership preschools last week. We discussed enrolling families in contrast to enrolling students. I am drawn to this notion, as I firmly believe we can work more successfully together in the learning journey when we value the contributions of families in school. We welcome enrolling families with RECEPTION children to contact our front office for our transition dates and visits for 2019 as soon as possible. Please pass on to friends, families and neighbours that Modbury West welcomes new families! Next week is book week and we will celebrate with our community the treasures that reading provides. I hope to see you at the parade on Wednesday morning and then as family treasures you are welcome to join your child in their class for reading. Tea and coffee is available in the STEM area from 10:00-10:30. LOST PROPERTY Please come in and check the lost property box for items that may belong to your child/ren. This week we celebrate our fabulous Support Service officers, often called the SSO team. We recognise their care, knowledge and skill set that value add to our school. Our SSOs provide a strong foundation for the individual needs of many students and strengthen learning programs. They manage the reception, financial, ICT, grounds, canteen, resources and administrative work enabling our systems to be efficient and effective. Please join us to celebrate and thank them for their work in our school! Traffic and concerns about road safety were discussed at our last Governing council. We all have a part to play in supporting safe behaviour. The school has 25 kilometre signs on Wright and Onslow roads. We must all be mindful of the importance of adhering to this speed limit. There is a dedicated area for dropping and collecting students on Onslow Road, but that is not a parking area. Please come to a stop at the kerb before students get in or out of cars. There is NO PARKING in the driveway with the double gates on Onslow road. If your child walks to school on Wright road please make sure you navigate a safe pathway for them to travel. Crossing major roads should be at dedicated crossings and again we ask all drivers to check their speed. Kind regards, Sue Wirth Principal
