Principal Message

Hi folks, Welcome to the new week. We are well and truly settled back into classroom routines and have experienced a productive 2 weeks since the return to full time schooling. Our students are benefiting from being in their regular class and receiving the support and targeted learning from their teacher and support staff.

We continue to operate our school inline with current advice from the NSW Department of Education including;

• Enhanced Cleaning including a day clean of all surfaces.

• Regular and thorough handwashing for students

• Students have access to hand sanitiser and are encouraged to use

• Playground routines designed to reduce congestion

• No bubblers. Drink bottles only.

• No visitors to site unless necessary or approved

• No interschool events or excursions

• Communicate to families to keep their children home if they are unwell (read on further to view the table of symptoms)

• Absolute no sharing of food or personal items

• Physical distancing of adults

Cooler Classrooms Installation Last week, we had several contractors onsite installing reverse cycle air conditioning in our 3 classrooms. The team worked extremely diligently (no doubt with the incentive of the long weekend in sight) and installed 6

units which are now functional. All classrooms will now be climate controlled to a pleasant 23° 😊 The units also feature CO2 fans which act to keep the atmosphere of classrooms healthy. The final step in the process is to remove the ‘old’ blue gas heaters which I’m sure many of you would remember from your own experiences in primary school! I’ve included a few pictures below for you to inspect. This enhancement to our school certainly be appreciated in the approaching Winter (and of course our hot & dry Summer).

Tell Them From Me Survey Students in Years 3-6 will complete the TTFM survey in Week 8. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Please return the form sent home today only if you wish for your child NOT to participate.

Compulsory School Attendance Please take the time to read the information at the back end of this newsletter in regards to compulsory school attendance. I understand that in the current COVID-19 period that student absence will occur inline with ensuring that students do not come to school if they present with cold and flu symptoms. In saying this, it is vital that students attend school as much as possible. Parents/carers must justify the absences of their children within 7 days to avoid the absence being marked as unexplained. Our rolls are monitored by an external Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) who reviews rolls regularly and will take action if poor attendance is observed. Schools also can refer students who have poor attendance directly to the HSLO for support. Please contact the school if you need any of the attached information clarified or if you have any questions. We aim for students to be attending school at least 92% or above.

Last week we acknowledged National Reconciliation Week at our school by hosting a special K-6 Assembly. During this time, we watched a Behind the News story on the importance of Reconciliation and I delivered an acknowledgement of country. Students shared their own thoughts on what Reconciliation means to them and were able to ask questions about the history of our first nation. Unfortunately, we were unable to host our popular breakfast this year however I do hope this tradition will continue in the future.

In Week 5 we held a special Pirate Day at school to raise important funds for the The Kids Cancer Project and to also have a bit of fun together back at school! All students looked fantastic in their gear! Thank you to all the

parents/carers who went to the effort to find a costume for your child/ren 😊 Students enjoyed participating in hands on activities and having pirate stories read to them but most of all loved the treasure hunt! A special thank you to Miss Taylor for organising this event.

Rapid Relief Team - COVID-19 Food Boxes As communicated last week via email, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) have COVID-19 Food Boxes available for families in need. Our school had 6 boxes donated which I have distributed upon request. If you require this support please contact the school or myself directly. Any requests will be treated confidentially. Alternatively, you can contact Service NSW on 13 77 88 to request an RRT Food box. Semester 1 Reports Semester 1 Reports will be distributed to families on Thursday, July 2. Staff will be busily preparing reports in the coming weeks. Please be aware that inline with the advice from the NSW Department of Education, our reports

will be not feature A-E grades and will be a summary of student progress as well as outlining future directions. An effort grade will remain. I have included a plain language brochure in this newsletter to assist parents. Regards, Mr Matt Collins Principal

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Kickstart for Kids – Expression of Interest Our Kickstart for Kids program is an important avenue to ensuring we are able to support our future students to experience a successful transition to primary schooling. Please contact the school if your child is aged between 3-5 and you are intending on enrolling them at Wamoon Public School. Our sessions focus on school readiness and most importantly a platform for children to socialise with age appropriate peers. If you know of parents in the wider community who you feel would be interested could you please ask them to contact the school.

Kickstart for Kids takes place each Tuesday 9.15am-11.30am (revised for the remainder of Term 2)

Newsletter Distribution The Newsletter will now be distributed on a fortnightly basis. This will allow for more content to be included as well for classroom teachers to provide content. I have noted a great deal of parents use our Facebook site to remain updated. I will continue to provide regular updates on our page including any breaking news and urgent reminders.

The Newsletter will be distributed every odd week; Week 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 & 10.

Parents who have provided their email address will receive their copy electronically for Term 2.
