Kindy The Kindergarten children have demonstrated that they could
be excellent Veterinary Surgeons in the making! They cared for our
wild animals, giving them food, bandages, medicine and lots of
injections. Our letter for the week has been 'G' and the children
created bubble printed Goannas, beautiful Galahs and green Sheep.
In numeracy the students explored their fine motor skills to create
numbers, count and measure. The children thoroughly enjoyed mixing
playdough and creating goo balls.
Pre-Primary In VCOP we are learning about connectives and how to
improve our sentences with more detail. Our WOW words for the week
are synonyms for surprised!
During our hands-on rotational activities, the children are
exploring digital technologies through the use of Osmo and
iPads.
In science/STEM we will be designing and building our own sailboats
and testing them. Year 1 During Mathematics lessons, students have
been busy solving addition and subtraction problems and identifying
'turn-around facts'.
During English in VCOP we are focusing on 'popping punctuation'.
Students are striving to use a greater range of punctuation in
their writing to make their work stand out. Some examples of
punctuation being used includes, capital letters, full stops,
commas, exclamation marks, question marks, speech marks and even
ellipses!
Term Two Geography is centred upon natural, managed and constructed
features of the local and wider environment. The Year One cohort
have discovered the meaning of each type of feature and identified
examples which can be found in the Two Rocks area.
Year 2 In Numeracy we have been looking at using the bridging
strategy for adding two digit numbers. To help us with this, we are
using our self talk. It’s tricky but with practise, we are getting
better!
In Literacy we have been using the iPads and books to research
Honey Bees. “Did you know they have 3 million hairs on their
“bodies?” said Ethan and that they “...eat pollen and nectar”
remarked Lilly.
We have also been learning about earthworms and are designing a
‘Worm Wee’ label to put on the bottles. Worm wee is like liquid
gold! Plants love it.
What’s Happening
Around the School
What’s Happening Year 3 The Year 3’s have been learning how to
write reviews and wrote a review as a whole class about Drones. Mrs
Hill & Miss Mott were so impressed with the WOW words they were
using and think many of them may have a future as toy critics. They
have also started doing a daily writing warm up which helps them to
write complex sentences. The first topic was cats and they have
learned a fair few WOW words that they know the meaning of and have
used in context. The Meerkats group have started their STEM
projects where they have to design a 3D habitat and use all the
knowledge they have learned in science to help them. Year 4 In
Maths, students have been learning how to apply a formula to find
the perimeter of irregular polygons and have practised converting
units of length.
In Literacy, the Year 4's have been developing their use of
vocabulary in their writing, and enjoying reading and responding to
their novel Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.
In HAAS, the Year 4's have been completing their research on
conservation and presenting their information on colourful posters.
Year 5 Literacy—Breaking News! We have been looking at the 5W1H to
create an interesting news article. We were given a stimulus of an
escaped lion!
In Numeracy we have been learning the different written methods to
solve multiplication and division. We also had the opportunity to
demonstrate our amazing Stepping Stones skills for some visiting
teachers. They were very impressed with what we can do!
We had a fantastic time on camp! We visited several important and
interesting places around Perth. We applied our science knowledge
at Scitech, we got ‘fun’ scared at Fremantle Prison, we learnt the
importance of democracy at the Constitutional Centre and we were
lucky to witness a sitting in the lower house at Parliament house.
Thank you to Mrs Pinches and Mr Schweda for coming along and
helping us!
Year 6 In English we have been writing a procedural text about how
to make a paper plane before transferring this to a flow chart
using an App on the iPads. This will then be turned into a Vlog
(video log) for another student to follow their instructions.
In Mathematics we have been looking at long division, always a
complicated process and discussing integers and where they are
placed on a number line.
Geography- we have been using the iPads to research an Asian
country of our choice. We then had to complete an assignment,
answering questions about our country's location, demographics and
environment, as well as the political and economic climate of the
country.
We have also been busy getting ready for our Winter Interschool
Carnival with teams practising: netball, soccer, AFL and

DIGI CLUB The Year 1s came to DigiClub and learned how to use
Scratch Junior. They learned how to make Scratch the cat move
around, add a different backdrop and add in more characters. They
were superstars and had a great time.
The Year 2s had a turn at Digi Club. They got to use Scratch Junior
and the Blue-Bots for the first time. It was loads of fun!
