Wideview Public School Learn Wisely Live Proudly
T: 02 9456 1655 E: [email protected]
Messages from Principal
The Whole Child at Wideview
We value co-curricula programs which complement the teaching and learning programs delivered in our
classrooms. Many of these programs only happen through commitment and so I want to express a sincere
thanks to the many teachers/parent volunteers/external providers for enabling the school to provide a
range of quality experiences for students, including (but not limited to), bands, music, dance, recorder
group, specialist sports, choir, debating, public speaking, environmental education, Maths Olympiad, ... our
students are well-rounded because of the quality of the programs offered to complement class-based pro-
grams.
Visiting the school
We are very fortunate at Wideview Public School to have parents who are available to assist within class-
rooms and during school events. All visiting parents including carers, who are involved in any activities
within the school (and have completed the compulsory Appendix 5) need to sign the visitors register using
our digital facility in the Front Office. Volunteers will then receive a visitor’s label which they must wear at
all times when they are within the school. Volunteers are also required to sign out before leaving the
school grounds.
Approaching Other Students
A reminder to all parents not to approach other students at our school if there has been an issue with your
child. This can be very upsetting to students and cause distress to them. If there is a problem or disagree-
ment between students that needs to be resolved please see your child’s teacher who can assist you with a
positive resolution.
Signing Students in at office
A reminder that if your child is late, early to leave or out of class for a period of time, then they must be
signed in/out at the office by an adult. A “Pass” ticket will be given to the student when signing in late so
that their teacher knows that a parent or adult have signed them in at the office.

Morning and Afternoon Parking
Thank you to all the parents who correctly follow the road rules around our school. We appreciate the fami-
lies that remember to not park across driveways when picking up or dropping off students. We also appreci-
ate the parents who don’t call their child across the road from their car or U-Turn on the bend or across the
double lines. Your courtesy ensures all students and parents are safe and the traffic flows at the beginning
and end of each school day.
Free Software for student use
Have you purchased a computer for your child and then need to purchase software as well? Please read on:
All NSW Department of Education school students are eligible to download and licence
Adobe and Microsoft software (on personally owned devices) at no cost. Students must have logged in using
their @education.nsw.gov.au student email address. Parents are encouraged to visit the website and view
select the appropriate programs to download.
There is an extensive FAQ section to answer many questions that may arise. Free

Premier’s Reading Challenge is about to start!
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) starts on 2 March 2020.
The annual challenge encourages all students from Kindergarten to Year 9 to read quality books and develop
a love of reading. Last year over 310,000 students across NSW got involved, and we are hoping for an even
bigger number this year. Students can choose from more than 11,000 books on the PRC list and complete
their reading log online to ensure their efforts are recognised.
Please note the PRC office has told us that ‘anything you have read from August 31 2019 can be counted to-
wards the 2020 PRC’.
Visit the PRC website (scan the QR code) for more information including the Challenge Rules and tips for
getting the most out of the challenge.
If you have questions about the PRC please email [email protected] We look forward to another great year of reading.

Florimo Cup 2020
The Florimo Cup is our annual Rugby League district gala competition. Our school has been sending teams
to it for a number of years now. Last year, our junior boys were successful in winning the Gary Larson Shield
(the junior boys’ competition) and went on to represent North Sydney at the State Cup.
This year, we are aiming to take 2 senior boys’ team, 1 senior girls’ team, 1 junior boys’ team and 1 junior
girls’ team. Although the Florimo Cup is a Rugby League (tackle) competition, the NRL have offered two
different pathways into League for our girls – a tackle or a touch football competition. Our girls have decid-
ed to enter the touch football competition for 2020.
Our students will begin training at school in Week 5 – Tuesday (girls) and Thursday (boys) on the oval. Stu-
dents should come in their sport clothes, sneakers, sports cap and drink bottle (boys will need to bring their
mouthguards in addition).
Mr Vasek from the NRL will run the tackle training clinic for our seniors and juniors boys on Thursdays. We
require that the boys come with a mouthguard for each of those sessions. No mouthguard, no training/
play.
Please note, that our school policy for rugby league is all students competing in contact (tackling) must
wear headgear and a mouthguard. Our school will provide headgear on the day.
With taking 5 teams to the gala day, I was hoping to get a few mums and dads to help out on the day. If you
are interested, please contact me through the school office.
Some key dates for your diary:
Tues March 31 – Florimo Cup at Montview Oval, Hornsby Heights
Permission notes/costs will be handed out closer to the date.
