Term 1 Week 3 2020 NEWSLETTER Principal’s Report Welcome Although I welcomed new and returning families through our website and Skoolbag app at the end of week 1; I would like to take the opportunity in our first newsletter of the year to re-extend that welcome. I feel privileged to be part of such a supportive school and community, and I always welcome feedback and suggestions. Year 7 peer support and Best Start Our new Year 7 students have started their first high school year with confidence thanks to our excellent and supportive Peer Support program. Students met their Peer Support leaders last year during orientation activities, and have continued that relationship with more activities this year. A huge thanks to our Year 10 Peer Support leaders, and to Dr Bollen who has lead and coordinated the program this year. Year 7 participated in Best Start testing last week and the results will be analysed and used by staff to target support and informed programming choices for their students. Thank you to our Best Start coordinators Mrs Dark, Ms Luttrell and Ms Needham, for their organisation and feedback to staff. This is valuable information and makes up a suite of data about our students and their needs and strengths. Swimming Carnival We were very fortunate to have lovely weather on the day of our swimming carnival. It was a fantastic day that was very well organised by Mr Whittle as the Sport Coordinator and strongly supported by all staff. The students behaved and performed wonderfully on the day, with some very close races and healthy competition between houses. I was disappointed to see that the attendance on the day was far less than acceptable. This is a school day and it is just as important as any regular school day, especially in terms of giving opportunities to build positive relationsips between themselves and their peers and staff. I expect all students to attend our special days unless they have a valid reason. Congratulations to our Year 12 group who organised a wonderful BBQ and bake sale for the swimming carnival and then travelled to the University Of Wollongong to experience University life for a day. School Photos Our school photos will take place on Friday 21 February, very capably organised by Ms Bollen. Envelopes will be sent home today with the students for you to fill in and order the photo pack you would like. Please have your envelope and money available to provide directly to the photographer. Correct payment will be required as no change will be available from the photographer or the school office. Please contact the school office if you have any questions about the school photo day. Girls Advisor Mrs Woolley has been our Girls Advisor for many years and has provided unwavering support and guidance to our female students. She has decided to take a step back from the role due to other commitments. I would like to thank her for the wonderful dedication she has shown to the role and the massive positive impact she has had on our students. I would also like to congratulate Ms Bollen who has been successful in picking up the role - I know she will do a wonderful job. 1 Crown Street, Crookwell 2583 T: (02) 4832 1421 F: (02) 4832 1966 E: [email protected] W: www.crookwell-h.schools.nsw.edu.au Keep informed with our app! Principal’s Report continuedCrookwell ShowDespite a (welcome) wet weekend, many of our staff and students were heavily invoved with the Crookwell Show. I was very proud to see so many student entries on display in the pavilion, as well as the students assisting in various show activities. A special thank to Mrs Marks and her team for the fantastic Crookwell High School display. Whenever I see all the activities and opportunities our students have, I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an enthusiastic staff, and working with students who are so keen to learn.

Sports UniformThere are some changes to sport in Week A that students and parents need to be aware of. Sport is now timetabled in lessons during Week A, not just Tuesday. On a day when a student has a time tabled sport lesson, they may wear their sport uniform all day. In Week B, sport is still on Tuesday for 2 hours for everyone in Year 7 to Year 10. P.E lessons still require students to get changed before and after the lesson.

P and C MeetingOur P and C meet Wednesdays, of weeks 4 and 8 of each term, commencing at 6pm in our staff common room. Our first meeting is Wednesday 19 February and I hope to see regular and new members on the night.

NSW School Vaccination Program 2020

Each year NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) conducts a free school vaccination program (SVP) to students throughout NSW. Teams of authorised nurse immunisers are employed to officer vaccination to all eligible students according to National Health and Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) and MoH guidelines. In 2020 Year 7 students will be offered the two dose course of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as well as single dose of Boostrix vaccine. Year 10 will be offered Meningococcal ACWY as a single dose of Nimenrix vaccine.

The SVP is a collaborative effort between MoH and the Department of Education. The specialised team of nurses will visit Crookwell High School to implement the School Vaccination Program on Wednesday 4 March for all Year 7 students. Consent cards will be distributed to students in Week 3 and should be returned to the school office.

It is important that your child eats breakfast, has a drink before school and remains calm on immunisation clinic days. Students can see Ms Bollen if they have any concerns. Our Year 10 Immunisation Angels will assist on the day, providing suport and reassurance for nervous participants.
