Principal’s Message
WELCOME BACK to all of our school
community. We are so pleased that the students have settled into routine so quickly. Thank you to staff and parents for making this happen. Kin-
dergarten started this morning and we had all but one smiling and settled. Well done Kindergarten! STAFFING We welcome Mrs Karen
Deacon who has started today with her new class of Kindy. Mrs Riggs is on Year 1. Mrs Turner is on a Year 2/3
class. We welcome Mrs Donna Layton and Mr Mark Green on Yr 3/4 and 5/6 respectively. Mrs Layton and Mr Green will be with us until the perma-
nent members of staff are chosen through the merit selection process which should be finalised by mid term.
SISA In Term 1 this year we will be trialling a new sports program called “Sport in Schools Australia”. The program will run for only first term.
Each lesson will be for 45 minutes and cost $3. The cost is usually $4 but the P&C have kindly agreed to subsidise this program by $1 per child per week.
Thank you again to the P&C for their ongoing support for these quality pro-grams. Lessons will be held on Mon-
days from 9.30-10.15 am and will start in the second full week of term, which is next Monday. All students are to wear their sports uniform and don’t
forget your hat. In the event of rain, the lessons will go ahead in the hall. SCHOOL HATS As part of the Sun
Safe program, we will be promoting sun safe hats. All students must have either a broad brimmed or bucket style hat-BY the end of WEEK 3 OF TERM 1
please. In Week 4 baseball caps will not be accepted as part of the school uniform. SURVEYS FOR PARENTS Last term
all of the students completed three surveys on-line. Parents need to com-plete their three surveys on Teaching,
Learning and the English curriculum.
These surveys are a vital part of our school’s review process and we hope all
parents from Year 1-6 will participate. See below for the links to these three surveys. Please complete them by Fri-day 17th Feb 2012. The “Three Things”
paper survey was sent home last term. If you did not get one or have misplaced it see Kyla for a new one. Please com-plete this paper one and hand in at the
box provided in the foyer.

Getting off to a Good Start
Wondering how to help your kids do well at home and at school this year? The depart-ment’s parent resource School A to Z has a webcast full of expert tips for you to help your children have a more successful year.
The ‘Getting off to a great start webcast’ has a number of chapters on how to moti-vate children for learning, advice on peer relationships and how to handle bullying, communicating with children and the im-portance of strong home-school relation-ships.
The expert panel features advice from a child psychologist, an experienced family doctor and the department’s deputy direc-tor-general (schools) Greg Prior.

National Year of Reading 2012
Welcome to a new school year. This is the national year of reading and to celebrate, there is a host of literary-related events and competitions happening right around Australia. For an events calendar and more info go to: www.love2read.org.au. Why not make a late New Year resolution to read more yourself? And if you have younger children and don’t already read regularly to them, set aside some quality time to help instil a love of books and reading.
