Best Start Kindergarten During the past two weeks all children in
kindergarten have been participating in a range of literacy and
numeracy assessments with their class teachers. The assessments
measure the children’s knowledge of literacy and numeracy concepts.
The assessments are done on an individual basis. The children may
come home to tell you that they had a new teacher on particular
days. This is because Mrs Lack and Mrs King will be working
individually with the students while another teacher teaches the
class. At the conclusion of these assessments parents will receive
a report detailing their child’s results. This is a very useful
diagnostic assessment which allows the teachers to tailor their
class programs to suit the learning needs of the children.
Queensland Flood Relief Fundraiser We would like to hold a
fundraising day on Thursday 17 February for all the victims of the
floods in Brisbane and further north in Queensland after this
terrible cyclone. All children can wear maroon coloured clothes or
can choose their favourite sports team colour
and enjoy a special day out of uniform. We ask all the children to
bring a gold coin or more if possible to help the flood and cyclone
affected victims. Recorder and Music Folder All students in Years 1
to 6 require a recorder and display book for their weekly music
lessons. These can be purchased from the front office as a set for
$12. We have purchased the proper Yamaha recorders so that all
students will have a quality sounding recorder. Please don’t buy an
inexpensive sparkly recorder for your child because the sound will
not be pleasant. School Hats We have a new supply of hats in the
office. They are available in two sizes - medium and large. The
price is $12. Dollarmite Banking If your child has a Dollarmite
account and you would like to bank through the school please ask
your child to bring the bank book to the office on a Monday. The
money will be recorded and banked during the week. The bank book
will be returned via the class teacher by the end of the week. The
CBA pays a commission to the school for every deposit made.
EFTPOS is available for payments of $20.00 or more for school
activities at the office.(excludes
P&C payments).
News From Stage Two Mr Bush and students in 3/4B were very
fortunate to have a visit from Ms Turnbull last week. Ms Turnbull
is a science teacher from Murwillumbah High school and is mum to
Alyssa and Cooper. The children in 3/4B enjoyed a session of
science experiments and looked at bones in our skeleton. The
children learned lots of interesting facts.
Library News Library Bags
A very big thank you to Zac Darragh's mum for asking her
grandmother to sew some new library bags. This was very much
appreciated by me. Library Monitors Congratulations to our Term 1
Library monitors. They are: Elizabeth Napper Charlotte Ryder Jordan
Howlett Emma O’Brien Tiffany Pearce Jared DeLyon Premier's Reading
Challenge
This year our school will again be participating in the Premier's
Reading Challenge. The Challenge runs from 1 March to 1 September.
Students must complete a set amount of reading to meet the
Challenge. The number of books needed are: K/2-30; 3/4-20; 5/6-20.
Children in K-2 can experience a book by listening to it being
read, participate in shared reading, or read part or all of the
book independently. Reading can be done at school or at home. All
student Reading Records are submitted online. Each child will have
a reading log which will be used to keep a record of books read.
PRC books in our school will be identified with coloured stickers.
A full list of PRC books can be found on the website. It is a
condition of entry that students entering and successfully
completing the Challenge will receive a PRC certificate and appear
on the Honour Roll. The certificate shows the student's name and
school. Only the student's name will appear in the Honour Roll. For
more information about the PRC go to
www.schools.nsw.edu.au/premiersreadingchallenge The Premier's
Reading Challenge is all about children discovering the joys of
reading widely for leisure and pleasure. Please help by encouraging
your child to complete the Challenge.
