From Annie’s Desk...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We are working hard to keep your child safe here at school in light of the recent developments across Australia with regards to the Coronavirus. Today we have taken measures to ban students from using bubblers at our school. We have given students (who don’t have drink bottles at school) new drink bottles. Please ensure that your child has their drink bottle before they leave the house, as we don’t have many on site.
Amy Dwyer from Auskick has contacted us today to cancel the proposed program that was to begin next week. She said that this program will go ahead in Term 4.
Students are still working hard in class and teachers are very mindful of all of the constraints that the Health Department has placed on us. If your child is sick, we have to send them home.
On a lighter note, here is a recipe for a very cheap laundry liquid!
Ingredients:
Cake of generic soap
Grater
Bucket with a lip
Funnel
Stirring spoon
Boiled water (adults must supervise this!)
4 x 3Litre Milk bottles and 1 x 2Litre milk bottle
Method:
Grate the soap into the bucket
Boil water and add to the soap flakes – mixing as you add jugs full
Fill to 8cm from the top of the bucket
Leave overnight to thicken to a gel
In the morning, stir the gel and decant into the bottles – half full in each bottle
Add cold water to the half full bottles and shake vigorously.
Now you have 14 litres of liquid laundry wash for the cost of a bar of soap and a little elbow grease!

Unfortunately at this time of year these little critters make a reappearance. Please check your children’ s hair for any live nits or eggs. Children who are found to have nits must be kept at home until they have been treated with an appropriate treatment. Various treatments are available from our local chemist. The Year 5/6 class is moving onto fractions, decimals and percentages and their
relationship with the four maths operations. Enthusiasm is running high and results in
maths generally are very pleasing.
We are also running rotations in Literacy using the Fitzroy Reading Scheme. This has been
running very well.
As the above photos indicate, the class area playing chess. It is
being utilised as applied maths, increasing social interaction and
the etiquette and rules of the game. In time we plan to have an
interschool chess competition.
I am very happy with the personal responsibility and effort from
all members of the 5/6 class.
