Mathew 28:19-20

Term 1 | Issue 03 - 03 March 2016

JESUS THE MODEL TEACHER Teachers play a key role in developing a Christian learning community. As leaders, they provide the instructional and learning strategies, evaluate the students and more importantly provide a model for the students. A Christian school needs to pay very serious attention to its choice of teachers since the students will tend to reflect the character, values and worldview of their teachers

(Luke 6:40).

This chapter will look at Jesus is the best model or master teacher.

Teachers need to be aware that while Jesus is the best model any Christian could have they should not expect to be able to simply copy his instructional methods. This is because he lived in a very different place and at a very different time in history and he taught and disciple adults rather than children...

Jesus was comfortable with people of all kinds and was compassionate toward them. He had a strong sense of who he was and where he had come from (John 13). Because of this, he was able to be a servant leader. He knew learners and knew the Scriptures.

Jesus taught wherever he was—by the lake, in the synagogue, in a house, on the road, beside the sea, or on the hillside. Look at who he taught. Jesus chose the twelve men to teach to be “fishers of men”. These men were imperfect, slow to learn, self-centered, uneducated and unprofessional. He did not choose the most able, most intelligent, most successful scholars to be his students. The Bible says that he chose those whom his Father had given him (John 18:9). Christian teachers can trust that God gives them the students he knows they can help even though they may not always be the ones they would choose for themselves. Effective teachers must become involved in the lives of their students—to laugh with them, to share their trials, to stimulate them and even cry with them as Jesus did. When his students displeased him, Jesus never let their failures cloud his love for them or stop him helping them to reach their full potential. Jesus knew each of his learners and their needs.

PREFECT ASSEMBLY

At the school assembly, the new school councillors were introduced to the school community. This year, 18 councillors were chosen from each year levels (Years 5-8). Parents, Grandparents and friends were present too and students and families shared morning tea together following a short assembly. Mr Gabrielson reminded the student councillors of the importance of service and humility in leadership, their responsibilities as role models and even comforter and friend to students who sometimes feel alone. He also reminded the rest of the students of their responsibility to respect and follow directions from student councillors when required. We thank God for the student councillors and their families and pray God’s blessing on their lives.

BACK TO SCHOOL ASTHMA SPIKE Every year there is a well-documented rise in asthma flare-ups and hospitalisations when students return to school after the Christmas break. Asthma Australia has information for parents of students with asthma to help them prepare for school. Asthma Australia’s website and social media provide the latest information, including a checklist of what to do to help your child and a survey to complete to determine the impacts for parents/carers.

Asthma Australia recommends that you talk to school staff about your child’s asthma and the school’s medication policy, provide an Asthma Plan from the doctor and supply a spare reliever puffer and spacer for your child’s use at school.

FOR PRIMARY AGED STUDENTS:

Asthma Kids Looking for a way to help your child understand more about their asthma or about a friend with asthma? Asthma Kids is an online, interactive tool to help primary school aged children understand what it’s like to have asthma and what they can do to help. Watch one of the introductory videos then take Chester’s Asthma Trail. There are prizes to win too! www.asthmakids.org.au

FOR SECONDARY AGED STUDENTS:

Young People and Asthma Asthma Australia is working with key organisations supporting young people’s health to help improve asthma health outcomes for 12-25 year olds. A Facebook page, Young People with Asthma – Australia, provides a range of information for these young people and their supporters. Every two months Asthma Australia will also run a Question and Answer session that is proving very popular. Check out the page for our posts and promotion for upcoming Q and A sessions.

ASTHMA - ANAPHYLAXIS - ALLERGIES

All parents are reminded of their responsibility to check medications kept at school are UP TO DATE. The school must be well informed so that your child will receive the correct, timely treatment prescribed by the doctor. There are many school families with children

suffering either Asthma or Anaphylaxis, therefore URGENT ATTENTION IS REQUIRED ON THIS MATTER. Both Asthma and Anaphylaxis require medication and an Action Plan -

SIGNED BY YOUR DOCTOR. WHAT PARENTS NEED TO DO:

Asthma and/or Anaphylaxis forms are completed and your doctor has signed it. Give copies of the SIGNED forms/Plans to the School office. Ensure that medications (puffers, epipens, tablets etc.) are provided to the school. Existing Asthma/Anaphylaxis Plans will be sent to all parents to update or confirm that information

are correct and current. Please return updated Action Plans to the office.

Help us to support you in the good care of your child whilst at school.

from-younger-adults.html)

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2014 AT 10:08PM Pastors are under attack today in every denomination and in every country. They are attacked from within their own churches by disgruntled attendees, within their own spirits by our enemy the devil, and from without by those

who don't even attend or aren't members of the churches pastors have the privilege and responsibility to lead. It's no wonder so many pastors are often discouraged, exhausted, frustrated, and in their minds (if not in actuality) have tendered their resignations. Pastors move from church to church or from church to another line of work at an alarming rate. Some of this could be greatly reduced if they received more affirmation and encouragement from those they lead, especially those who are younger. I am well beyond the teens and 20’e (I will be 75 in December of 2014) but in my 45 years of ministry I have worked with lots of young people. Many young adults hang back and stay on the fringes of church, afraid or reluctant to commit themselves. But as you deliberately support and encourage your pastor, you will identify yourself as someone who's on board and positive, and potentially someone whom your pastor can begin to invest in. Today's pastors need to focus on developing the next generation of leaders in their respective churches because young adults are the future of the church. It is, therefore, incumbent on young adults to especially be aware of how they can help, support and encourage their pastor(s). Here are my 6 POINT ideas on how you can stand behind and alongside of the pastor God has allowed to lead the church you call home:

---> 1. Pray For Your Pastor ---> 2. Encourage Your Pastor ---> 3. Submit To Your Pastor's Leadership.

---> 4. Get To Know Your Pastor A pastor, at times, has a lonely job. Many people instead of giving wind up taking from the pastor — taking his time, his energy, his resources, his wisdom and his counsel. It is refreshing and encouraging to know that people in the church family really care about him, pray for him, and really want to get to know him, not so they can take, but so that they can give. Why not call the church office to schedule some time with your pastor and offer to take him to lunch at his favorite restaurant? Ask him to tell you his story, how God saved him, called him into ministry and is currently leading him. I can guarantee you that he will appreciate this and be a better leader as a result of your initiative.

---> 5. Ask How You Can Serve Your Pastor/Your Church Are you currently serving at your church? If you are serving, are you able to step it up a notch? Give more time or volunteer somewhere else where needed? I have never been in a church that had all the servants and leaders it needed and wanted. One of the best ways to grow personally, and at the same time help your church grow, is to find a place where your gifts, capacity and interests can make a unique contribution to what Jesus wants to do through you and through your church. If you are not serving in some capacity, please do so, leaving the ranks of the consumers and joining the ranks of the contributors.

---> 6. Talk Honestly To, Not About Your Pastor. If there is something that you honestly have a problem with — some decision he made, something he wrote or said that you disagree with — please talk to him, not about him.

This is one of the big sins in the body of Christ. We talk about people, but not to people. Most pastors want to hear from people who have issues or questions with something at the church. Most would relish the opportunity to genuinely hear what is bothering you and to have the chance to both genuinely listen and share concerning your issue so the two of you can have mutual understanding and respect for each other. Talking about others rather than talking to others is gossip pure and simple, and it never makes things better, only worse. The book of Proverbs is loaded with words of warning about gossip. Here are a few for starters: Proverbs 11:13, 17:9, 18:8, 20:19. There are a lot of other things that could be said, but I will stop with these six. Let me say it again, "Your pastor needs YOU!" Most pastors want to be relevant to the younger generation and know that they can positively influence them for the kingdom. He needs your support, prayers, honest feedback and involvement to do this well. As you do this, you will experience more joy and personal growth in your walk with Jesus, your pastor will be more motivated and become a better leader, and Jesus will be honoured.

SIX THINGS PASTORS NEED FROM YOUNGER ADULTS
