VIVO Rewards surge We have hit in excess of 108,000 vivomiles being awarded to students for this calendar year. This is very impressive considering the short time it has been operating at our school. We now regularly receive packages with online shopping articles ‘purchased’ through the vivo system. Congratulations to Lachlan Sparrow who was the first student to achieve 500 vivomiles. As a result he received a free pass to Greenhills Recreation Park without sacrificing any of his points. Well done. It is interesting to note that most vivos have been awarded for work completion. This is supporting the school’s focus on work completion and highlighting the success we are achieving in this area. The second highest category is community service and this also supports our school values of respect, honesty and relationship. Well done to all the students and staff for embracing the vivo scheme. Next year all new Year 8s will be issued with a vivo card and all points accrued will be carried over into the New Year.

Principal’s Speech Day address
Hall of Fame: Salisbury High School Speech Day was celebrated on Friday 30th
November 2012. 2012 is the Chinese Year of the Dragon an astrological year that brought an abundance of eclipses representing numerous ups and downs that occurred bringing reflections of light and dark. For Salisbury High School 2012 brought an abundance of successful moments.
Jacob Morrison – 2012 Dux of Salisbury High and recipient of Long Tan Award We have a 100% increase in students aspiring for a University placement. Our students flourished amongst both public and private school entries, winning numerous Maths awards. Our NAPLAN Maths Learner Improvement data strengthened these successes with above National average results. Our school was involved in filming of Totally Wild celebrating our exemplary maths progress. The Power Cup program showcased our students’ commitment to this state wide indigenous program, bringing us five out of eight awards. Our students’ aspirations have significantly shifted from C grade to striving for A grades. Our year 12 students worked diligently to achieve high attainment in subjects such as Chemistry,
Physics, Pure Maths, Psychology and English, leading them into significant career paths such as Engineering, Science and high end Defence Force placements, Education and Health industries. We wish the class of 2012 every opportunity to achieve their goals and that their future years bring success, abundance and joy. We trust they will remember their years here fondly, return to visit from time to time, and become involved in our Old Scholars’ Association. On behalf of the School, I would like to thank you all for having faith in Salisbury High and strongly supporting us in what we do. We appreciate your effort, contributions and trust you will continue your most welcome and much needed support. I also take this opportunity to thank the Governing Council, our volunteers, and many supporters for your ongoing commitment and many hours of service. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our staff. It is not always easy, but makes a huge and often lasting difference in the lives of our young people. So I thank each and every one of you personally for your commitment, hard work, sense of humour and contribution. Ann Prime – Principal

Boccia Boccia is a sport similar to Bocce, however it was designed specifically for people with celebral palsy. Today the sport is played all over the world by athletes with any physical disability affecting motor skills. This term our SWD Middle and Senior Unit classes participated in a Boccia carnival at Netball Stadium (ETSA Park). The carnival allowed our students a chance to display their sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical skills as well as their capacity to be inclusive competitors. Congratulations to both teams for making the finals in each category.

The last book that Keshabi read was Stones for my Father and she is currently reading Slumgirl Dreaming. Par Za particularly enjoys reading Japanese manga
because they have good story lines. Currently she is reading Maid Sama and is looking forward to reading Kitchen Princess next. Other avid readers are: Lauren Thompson, who reads for fun and fantasy; Joel Morton, who likes to let his imagination run; Sharnae Pin, who says that reading helps to improve her knowledge; Nicole Remillosa, What makes you want to read?
If there are particular books that you would like to read but you cannot find them on the library shelves, just come and ask me and I will be happy to help.

Visual Arts Mural
This semester the Stage 1 Visual Arts class have been working on a mural to be placed upstairs in the main building. We began our research by surveying students about their favourite aspects of Salisbury. One of the most common positives we found in our research was the Salisbury Wetlands. We decided this would be the theme of our mural and all students based their individual concepts on 'The Benefits of the Salisbury Wetlands'. The mural consists of twenty panels, this is a sneak preview of some of the paintings.

Welcome back to all our families. I am especially pleased to welcome our new families with students in Year 8 and throughout Years 9 to 13.
