Dear parents/carers
Re: Tercentenary Concert
I am writing to you to invite interested pupils to take part in a major musical event in the life of
the school, as part of our Christs School Tercentenary Celebrations. This will be a choral and
orchestral concert which will take place in the church of St. Mary Magdalen in Richmond on
Saturday 22nd June at 7.30.
The programme will include two choral works: MozartsAve Verum Corpusand Vivaldis
Gloria; it will also contain concerto performances with orchestra by two of our leading
musicians: Otto Sterner and Jasper Rose.
The programme will be as follows:
David. Concertino for trombone and orchestra. Soloist Jasper Rose
Mozart. Ave Verum Corpus for strings, choir and organ.
Tchaikovsky. Violin Concerto in D major2nd movement. Soloist Otto Sterner
Vivaldi. Gloria for choir, orchestra and soprano & alto soloists
The event is designed to raise the profile of the school within the wider community,as well as
to raise the musical aspirations of the pupils at the school through an evening of
performances which will include parents and friends of the school, as well as the best
musicians from other youth music organizations such as youth orchestras and others; alsothrough links with local choirsbringing these together with Christs School at the heart.
This will be a unique experience also for the singers of Christs School to take part in Vivaldis
Gloria, a major choral work with orchestra. Rehearsals will begin after half-term, but it will be
vital to know that we have the commitment of the young people not only to attend the
practices, but also to be sure of availability for the concert itself, which is on Saturday 22nd
June, at 7.30pm.
I have set out a draft rehearsal scheduleand will let people know well in advance of any
changes that need to be made. The later rehearsals where the school pupils rehearse with
visitors and adults who will also be singing are a vital part of the process, so pupils need toensure that they are happy and willing to take part in the project as a whole before signing
up:
